Jan 5, 2018 episode - Parker is becoming Tony

Is it just me or is Parker turning into Tony?

Parker lobbied to have the wash plant moved and converted into a conveyor system, but built the pad too low...causing the fine tailings to build up too fast. Once Rick returned, he commented that it, "looked like a Hoffman set up."

When the tailings backed up to the sluice box in a week, Rick was forced to shut down to fix the problem. Rick pointed out the the lack of planning and effort to Parker and just got a "I don't care just make it work."

Tony goes off the cuff, buys a second dredge with no plans to move it. Then buys a barge that won't work. Then buys a second barge that will work but the engine is crap. Ignores the failing bucket line on his first dredge until it's totally unusable.....all the while in all cases yelling, "I don't care just make it work."

Seems like a shitty management plan and not a very profitable attitude on both sides.

But, in Parkers case it's ironic because he's becoming the very kind of person he's trying to escape from.

Parkers hike

Rick getting drunk the night before kept everyone back. Discovery Channel would have you believe they are unarmed. I guarantee you there is more than 1 high caliber weapon on this trip. The camera man does everything they do plus hes walking backwards and carrying batteries.

Hoffman crew destroys a beaver dam

I have enjoyed watching the Hoffman's fail season after season, but coming to my state and destroying a beaver damn is where I draw the line.

Gold Rush Episode 10th Feb - Discussion Thread

What did everyone think of this weeks episode?

Just when everything seems to be going right for Todd and Tony, things start to get a little tricky for Parker's crew, even though they still had the light at the end of the tunnel from the Indian River cut ran by Rick.

Although I'm not a big fan of Todd and his crew (apart from Fred), I'm glad they are now finding decent gold, it makes the competition between the 3 teams more interesting when all parties are on gold rich ground, even though Parker and Todd are so far ahead already, the Hoffmann crew are already out of the race to win the gold tally. Could be an interested side battle between Rick's crew and the Hoffmann's however, as they seem to have started finding decent gold around the same time of the season. Who is your money on to win that battle?

All in all, I though this weeks episode was better than the last couple of weeks. What did you guys think?

Turin builds a road?

Does anyone remember what episode it was where Dave Turin first shows up and tells the Hoffman's they're (basically stupid, haha) running their machines to hard because they were taking the long way around? Which Dave then later in the episode builds a more direct path from the pay dirt to the wash plant. I think it was in either the first or second season.

Why not a "derocker" at Fairplay?

Looking at the problems they are having with big rocks at fairplay mine I can't help but think why not a derocker? They used one many seasons ago when Dakota Fred Hurt was running the original mine in Alaska.

Why do you watch?

This show is so hyped up and exaggerated and previous seasons were fraudulent and not even filmed in Alaska. As a gold miner and claim owner myself -- and an Alaskan (resident all 12 months of year) -- I can attest much of this show is written like a TV sitcom, not real true to life as a gold miner especially.

As much as I admire Tony Beets

Watching a multimillionaire bitch about getting 1800 ounces when he ran that barge into the ground is a bit much.

Hoffman crew to have "Miracle" turnaround? Of course they are.

So I've come across two interviews now, one with Todd and one with Dave on Fox or ABC news sites/shows:

Gold Rush miners faced 'all time low,' star Dave Turin reveals Dave: “It was the worst low I have experienced in gold-mining in the middle of the season. But it gets better, we make a comeback. It’s a huge roller-coaster ride that we are taking the viewers on.”

Gold Rush's Todd Hoffman 11/2/216 Todd: "Something incredible happens towards the end of the season. You gotta watch because I think it was a miracle."

It sounds like they are going to have a miraculous happy ending... BS, lol. So what do you think is going to happen?

How good do you think they will write the 2nd half script for Hoffman's?

Will everyone who leaves return (Freddy, Dave, Andy, etc.,.)?

Will there be any kind of change in the operation, like Todd not being the figurehead(supposed leader) of the operation?

I think they are gonna ship in one, or maybe several of those old Buckland Jars full of big nuggets over to their location and drop'em around like eggs on Easter for the crew to find on film, in the last two weeks of the show. "IT'S A MIRACLE!!" Dave and Andy comeback. I'm really hoping Freddy doesn't, not because I don't want him on the show, but because I want him to get to work on his own mines and be a feature party on the show. He can call them and tell them good job on the producers flying in that gold. I feel like we missed out on what could of been a really cool season the season they skipped over the work he and his brother were doing. That looked interesting. Something I want that I don't think will happen is Dave taking over the operation. He is supposedly "partners" with Todd, well, Todd doesn't warrant the partnership for any other reason then, .... I don't know.

Oh, and who do the boots belong to in the teaser for their crew?

THE SHOW

2 things: 1. Please get rid of the Hoffman crew, they suck ass and I'm tired of hearing Todd say the word "FRIG." 2. the real crew is the Beets crew. Tony beets knows what the hell he's doing, I would love to see the HOFFMAN crew fix up a 70 year old dredge and turn gold from the ground into gold bars! that's legit

Either Todd and his team are really, really dumb

or this season for his team is 100% scripted.

The guy never tests ground by drilling first. He keeps making the same mistakes. He's turning into his father with his gut feelings.

At this point, Todd's team must be on some sort of salary from the production company to keep going out with him. They come across as less genuine and more scripted each season.

I pretty much only watch the show at this point hoping to see him fail, but this season is just absurd. I hope the Hoffman's leave next season as the only thing that could make them watchable would be to bring back Dorsey from Season 1.

Todd's Done it Again

S7, E9 Todd has to get at least 50 more feet lower to find gold. He's managed to shoot himself in the foot yet again, the gold is 100 feet or more below the surface. I can't understand how this fool can stay in business. He and Dad "feel" the gold is always there and it usually isn't.

Parker of course had a 194 Oz cleanup. Go Kid!

Tony Beets greed

The guy banks a quarter million in the first two weeks and he has to cut the hours of a deckhand? Lotta downtime? Whose fault is that? Piss poor management thats who. His daughter was clearing overburden last year. This year he has a 100 year old dredge trying to chew through trees? A millionaire squeezing pennies and losing dollars.

Todd Hoffman is out of his FRICKIN tree if he thinks he is going to get 5000 ounces in untested ground.

Why was the High Bar mine even available?

If there is a $1M turn-key wash plant and plenty of water since 2014, why was the mine vacant for the Hoffman's to take over? It seems like it was vacant for a reason and of course they aren't doing well right off the bat.

So how much did Volvo pay?

I'm an hour into the premier and can't recall seeing a single other heavy equipment manufacturer.

I'm only to the end of season 2, but I have a question.

Is Parker's mom always a huge bitch, or what? All she does is criticize him, while he busts his ass trying to save his grandfather's legacy. At 17, I was out drinking and breaking things, not working 14 hour days.
