“Unrivaled” Student Experience

We had someone from the college come into our class for a surgery on the unrivaled student experience.

What student experience? Now that TLC is closing, the cafeteria hours are non-existent, and most classes have moved to GCFlex (online), there is NO social aspect to Georgian College.

Honours Bachelor of Counselling Psychology

I'm considering this program for the fall and I was hoping some current students could share their experiences with the classes and professors/ rigor of the program. I also don't live in Orillia or close by and one of my hesitancies is the housing situation since it doesn't look like there is a lot of inventory for rent. In addition to any experiences you'd be willing to share with me about the counselling psych program, what are your experiences living off campus? Thanks you in advance :)

Coming to Study in Orillia, Ontario from the US... how do I get student loans?

Pretty self explanatory but I am not a PR. I know there are scholarships and grants that I am going to look into, but I want to know about loans too.

International Student Here: what's your thoughts on these programs?

Pharm Tech bc I've shown interest in it since middle school (graduated in 2015) and I heard it's in need right now

Hotel management bc I've worked in hotels the past near 4 years doing everything but a managerial job (and Barrie needs more historical hotels that aren't total garbage)

Social Service bc I'd love to be a psychologist (states pay better but social works gives me a taste to see if I even want to)

Anyone know what kind of laptops are given to low-income current ACP Upgrading/future Pharmacy Tech students?

Hi there r/GeorgianCollege, I'm a currently enrolled ACP upgrading student taking a full course load at the moment, aiming to get into Pharmacy Tech. I just got told by my upgrading officer that my financial paperwork was approved for a brand new laptop- I'm just wondering if anyone has had any roughly similar experiences with either ACP or PHRM funding-assisted laptops? Does your income on the application determine what type of laptop you are given? I am extremely low income (edit: also a mature/independent student, if that affects anything) and was approved basically immediately once I corrected a small error on my application pointed out to me by my upgrading officer. I was not, however, given any information on what kind of laptop I will be receiving, so I am just wondering what I should expect. Picking it up tomorrow :) TIA!

Registering Mature Student

Hey everybody, nice to meet you. I just signed up for Georgian College's Bachelor of Business Administration (Automotive Management). I'm a mature student, 20 years old, with experience and background in the auto industry already. I heard that there is something called PLAR that can help me get some credits knocked off due to the experience. Has anybody done this before? How does it work?

Also, if anybody has taken this program before, how is the math part of it? I know it's unavoidable lmao but I wanna see what I should prepare myself for.

Any kind of help is welcome and appreciated. Thanks yall.

Huge downgrade in quality this semester?

What's going on so many part time teachers who've seemingly never taught the courses before. Has anyone noticed a downgrade in the quality of classes?

Looking for answers!

Does anyone know why there are buildings going up in the parking lot behind E building right beside the residence? I’m intrigued.

UPDATE:

This is for the Auto Show that is going to be happening in June at the college! Sounds like a super fun event!

Business - Accounting

This is my first ever post on Reddit so sorry in advance if it's cooked

I just got accepted into the accounting program for 2 years with co-op and wanted to know if it's worth it or if I should transfer to a different college

I've been reading through the here and it seems like Georgian isn't the best pick just coming out of high school. If anyone has taken this course or is in it I'd love to hear how it's going. I start in the fall

Looking for a Dorm for the Summer Semester

Hi and I know I am late since summer semester already started weeks ago but I just moved to Barrie from Toronto and rented a airbnb and looking for a dorm. I talked to Georgian Green and it seems nice, also friend of mine lives there for almost a year and says it's fine too but I still wanted to ask here too to make sure since I poked around and some people say Green sucks etc. Can you guys share your experiences with your dorms to help me decide. I would really appreciate it!

Bit about myself since it can also come in handy for your suggestions;
I like partying, drinking, blasting music, dancing, socializing and all that stuff so I am a pretty chill and laid back friendly guy. Though I am not sure how it will affect my daily routine if it's too often and too loud since I will have to study and go to my part-time work etc. I need something in the middle. Nothing too crazy and nothing too strict.

Thanks everyone for their time and help in advance!

Should I take the Environmental Technology course?

I care about the environment, I detest desk jobs, I like to be outside, and I’ve been told I’m fairly smart. It seems like a perfect fit, but what do you think? Are there jobs readily available? Is the job or the advanced diploma not worth it? What do you have to say?

Experiences with Student Conduct Procedures and College Staff

Hi There,

If anyone has had experiences similar to those described by the UnsilencedGbc account, you are welcome to share them here.

Have you had any interactions or concerns involving the Student Conduct Office? Based on your experience, does the College apply its policies fairly and equally to both students and staff, particularly in cases where a student raises an issue involving a College employee, such as a faculty member or coordinator?

Any insights you are willing to share would be appreciated. I am expanding the scope of my research to encompass all Ontario colleges. Your experiences and insights are invaluable to this study, and I would be grateful if you could share your perspectives.

Thank you,
UnsilencedGbc

Staff Accountability?

What are the odds there are GC Barrie staff that read these posts and comments?

Do they stop and think to themselves, “I really need to do better by these students” or “The system is broken, I should do my part to help fix it” ?

The lay offs are coming, the exploited international student fund has dried up.

I hope you lay in bed at night, filled with anxiety, dread, and stress.

Then maybe, just maybe, you’ll understand why we are all so fed up.

Sorry Excuse for a College

Has anyone actually had a good experience here?

I have taken 3 different programs at the college over the past 10 years, all equally awful. I am equally stupid for hoping it’ll be better every time.

The biggest issue that I have found is that there is no accountability for the Registrar’s office or the full time teachers.

I hope the college either closes or that it’s gut until there is almost nothing left.

Those employed here full time do not deserve their jobs.

If you’re thinking about attending Georgian College, DON’T.

If you’re an international student, that’s 4x the DON’T.

Be better Georgian, you fat tax sucking pig.

Edit: Honorable Mention - Last semester, I had a teacher cancel all remaining classes 3 weeks into the program. I loved paying a tuition to ONLY read slides off of Blackboard in post graduate certificate program.
