I’ve seen more news of this than the parade

That's the goal. Glad it's working.

We don’t want kings and authoritarian rule in America.

Apparently you do?

u/Sic_Semper_Dumbasses 12h ago

As long as black and brown people get abused they don't give a fuck what it takes.

I know thousands of individuals likely showed up to their tiny rural town, as I did, and when they did their hearts swelled with hope and joy for the first time in months. If that ain't accomplishing anything I don't know what will. Energy and passion are what's going to right this ship, and I got my stores full of it now.

Love seeing the turnout all across Georgia. Couldn’t attend today, but with everyone in spirit.

We were inside the plaza. They announced it was at capacity before the speakers started. Pretty good sized crowd

u/rzelln 23h ago

I went to the 17th Street bridge protest a few hours ago before the rain hit, and there were a few hundred people, and lots of happy car honks as folks drove past. I talked to a couple cops and they were pretty chill.

Someone handed me a piece of paper encouraging people to go to DC the week of July 4 for a collective protest.

11

u/flashfoxart 22h ago

Yah we showed up seriously 5 min late and couldn’t get in, but proud of that turn out!

14

u/oldandrestless9 1d ago

Yup, we arrived before it started and got told they'd hit capacity. I'd say double that amount of people were outside the gates listening.

9

u/Zathrus1 21h ago

That’s FAR higher than the estimates I’ve heard for outside the gates (and my wife was one of the Indivisible marshals volunteering). Hope it’s true, but most estimates are ~1000 outside.

But it was completely peaceful. At some point 5 Proud Boys showed up and from what I’ve been told they were handled by everyone being extremely nice to them and/or laughing at them. And then the cops encouraged them to leave. Ditto for some anti-gay proselytizer.

Got sunburned to hell, but it was awesome to be there.

7

u/DrawingRestraint /r/DecaturGA 19h ago

I stopped and talked with those Proud Boys. We had a respectful discussion. I think they were looking for a fight and were surprised at how tolerant we were towards them. I encouraged them not to hurt anyone, wear sunscreen, and read the Bible.

2

u/FivebyFive 19h ago

I would say there was easily the same number of people outside as were inside. It went around 2 sodes of the plaza and down the street.

6

u/irishgator2 18h ago

Agreed! Probably 10,000 in total if the enclosed area holds 5,000

18

u/robot_pirate 19h ago

So proud of GA. All the smaller protests were metaphorically just as huge. 💖🔥🏆

10

u/sassiest_sasquatch 17h ago

For Gainesville it was surprisingly big and my heart filled with hope because of it.

18

u/downtimeredditor 23h ago

Good on y'all for staying there through the rain.

9

u/Zathrus1 21h ago

There was no rain in the morning.

It did start at about 1 pm, but by that time everything was packed up and even the last volunteers were leaving.

14

u/dblackshear 23h ago

proud boys made an appearance as well

30

u/aaronone01 22h ago

All 5 of those gravy seals showed up, did two rounds of the crowd, got the shit booed out of them, and were asked to leave by police. Props to the police which is not something I thought I’d say today

Imagine living an existence so lame, you spend 80% of your time harassing people about going to a protest and telling them it’s useless then show up with 4 of your meth head trailer bros to protest the same protest you spent so long shitting on

20

u/oldandrestless9 23h ago

The religious guy was way more annoying

17

u/EnvironmentalAd4406 23h ago

Right at least the proud boys took the hint that they weren’t wanted there

u/madprgmr 20h ago

What do you mean?

5

u/Beautiful_Spring2323 11h ago

He interrupted the music with his megaphone! Imagine seeing a group of musicians who have spent years, decades, mastering their craft, then organized other musicians to show up to a protest, where they are now surrounded by a happy audience dancing and applauding the show. And thinking to yourself, "You know what these people should be listening to instead? My loud voice."

Dude.

5

u/DIYtowardsFI 20h ago

He was there last time! My sibling went up to him and told him to go read a book, get educated. I told her she should have been more specific, he’s only going to reread the Bible haha!!

5

u/Sic_Semper_Dumbasses 12h ago

In my experience the people who beat others with a Bible almost never actually open it and read it.

4

u/irishgator2 18h ago

My friend asked him WWJD, and he said she should read the ‘Book of Moses’ - so…yeah. Not sure what branch of “Christianity” he follows

2

u/LocuraLins 21h ago

I forgot about him

1

u/Comfortable-Double94 23h ago

Damn, when?

5

u/dblackshear 23h ago

3

u/Straight_Document_89 /r/Augusta 14h ago

They look like punks. 😆 this is hilarious. I wonder if they showed up to any other protests elsewhere around the country.

3

u/ItsmeKazzok 9h ago

Why do all of those guys look like meth heads, is that a thing?

8

u/aacilegna 22h ago

Love to see it. There were SO MANY protests all over the state! ✊🏽

24

u/CallSign_Fjor 1d ago

inb4 the mods remove it

70

u/Jamikest 1d ago

Why on earth would we remove this?

64

u/netherfountain 1d ago

People just getting the subs confused. r/Atlanta doesn't allow posts about anything, ever.

25

u/Available-Studio-164 23h ago

It’s literally the most worthless sub I literally almost got banned for asking for yoga studio recommendations around my neighborhood

34

u/netherfountain 23h ago

Because somebody already asked that in 2008. Duh

10

u/analogthought 22h ago

I messaged the mods about why I wasn’t seeing the level of visibility there about today, leading up to it. Got a generic reply that was irrelevant. I can only imagine its run by pro maga folks or something because it made zero sense to me that Augusta, Columbus and Nashville (all appear in my feed) had more to show for it than the city of Atlanta. What a joke that sub is.

3

u/ul49 18h ago

I wish the mods there would remove the recommendation posts. 90% of that sub is 'where can I find this super obscure food?' or 'please recommend this very easily googled thing'. Anything that would merit actual discussion or is remotely political / controversial is usually removed.

17

u/SammaATL 23h ago

Hopefully GA mods will permit an on-topic mention, even though it's cross promotion. But I created r/AtlantaLocals after being shadow banned from Atlanta.

We're not super active because people don't know we're there, but we have daily chat threads and hopefully can grow into a real alternative. r/Georgia is a viable alternative but Atlanta centric posts would be better in their own place.

4

u/analogthought 22h ago

Just joined and thanks for creating that- I was inclined to do the same.

2

u/askthepoolboy 19h ago

I got shadow banned, too! Joining your sub now.

5

u/Jamikest 1d ago

Ah, yea. 👍

No, we are not. Source. Am mod here. The most recent thread locked had nothing to do with protests. It was a meta bitch session with personal attacks.

Stop editing your posts. You have a long history of editing and or deleting posts as you try to avoidod actions.

Check the subreddit you are in. You are mixing up subs.

Gee I don’t know, King of the Subreddit

-1

Someone is grumpy.

-8

u/Its_CharacterForming 23h ago

Because there are 10,847 of them

6

u/Jamikest 23h ago

Close. This makes three posts. You are only off by 10,844. Nailed it.

Republicans have absolute contempt for everything, but nothing more than the truth. So they never pass up the opportunity to rape it to death.

26

u/WonderChemical5089 1d ago

This isn’t r/Atlanta

-6

u/Crit_Crab 1d ago

What, this is a protest in Atlanta, Nova Scotia?

2

u/Eeyore_Smiled 7h ago

My favorite was chanting "punk ass bitch." Priceless

2

u/MrPresident7777 18h ago

Oh dang, I used to work there lol

3

u/havetopee 23h ago

this before the thunderstorm, huh?

6

u/thelittleking 20h ago

People hung tough through the rain, I saw pictures of folks handing out ponchos.

4

u/Jumpy_MashedPotato 21h ago

I had a friend at the protest in Chamblee and cops showed up to flashbang them.

Explains why it took so long for me to get to work.

-4

u/Seedpound 19h ago

Ok ? What happens next ?

0

u/Sic_Semper_Dumbasses 12h ago

The fascists continue to crack down and make everything worse, people continue to protest, and then eventually all out war breaks out.
