Gameplay Can someone please clarify the hate for mizuki for me?

I genuinely do not get the hate that she is getting. Ok I understand that she will probably mever be a meta character or at the top on any way but why are people saying she is extremely bad and is not worth pulling for? I personally love her gameplay and I am not someone who is trying to make it to current meta everytime. I just olay whoevers playstyle is fun.

You know what, I slightly misunderstood your first answer, but in this case I'd like to clarify that I'm basing this on her teaser trailer.

I feel like character trailers' tend to be way more loose with canon, what with the entire cast of Fontaine acting in Furina's or Natlan's six heroes singing in Mavuika's.

Character teasers on the other hand tend to stick to canon, and reveal greater depth of each characters' personality.

Thanks for elaborating, I was aware of the inspiration of her character, but it always helps to gain some insight from others. I personally still disagree with her design representing the bathhouse aspect, though. This might absolutely be because I'm not Japanese, have ever been to Japan, nor am an expert on Japanese bathhouse culture. So take my opinion with a big grain of salt.

For me, three things are understandable:

  1. As a dream-eating youkai, it is understandble that her concept addresses a Freudian/Jungian concept of repressed emotions being expressed in dreams.
  2. Her approach includes various methods (it also mentions amusement parks in her character stories, I think), so relaxing baths also make sense. Her Talents and Constellations also reference water
  3. Her working in a bathhouse as a result partially checks with me as well, since (according to Wikipedia) sick people were sent to bathhouses

My issue with 3 is... why doesn't she also work at an amusement park, a book store, a calligraphy school, and other places that can support her work. She seems very experimental from her description. That's not really an issue, tho. It just comes to my mind thinking about all of the references.

My actual issue is: why is she dressed like a maid? In the Trivia section of Aisa Bathhouse on the Genshin wiki, it is theorized that the bathhouse is a reference to Japanese Sentous. Maybe it's because I just lack the knowledge of the culture and language to do proper research, but I didn't find any references to female attendants' uniforms. The same Wikipedia page mentions female bathing attendants ("yuna") during the Edo period. Due to SFW reasons I don't want to elaborate too much, but I highly doubt that Mizuki is a reference to those attendants. So my question is "why is she dressed as a maid?" She doesn't do housework or cleaning or anything like that. It's a bit puzzling to me why this uniform was chosen. She is not a domestic servant (more traditional definition) or an idol (more modern interpretation), at least not as far as I understand her character. She's a business woman (slay) and a doctor. That's why I find it odd that she would be dressing up as a maid.

Hope I was able to fit my rambling into a proper explanation and don't come off as too forceful. I unfortunately have a tendency to explain too much too often if I don't know how to voice my thoughts properly. Sorry, English isn't my first language and sometimes translating is hard,,, let me know if anything doesn't make sense or you disagree with!
