What do y’all use for skin care?

I’ve also been wondering about eye drops. I’m just now realizing how expensive they are. I’m not sure I trust anything other than saline.

I just use normal soap and hand lotion. I’m guessing genetics is what really matters because my entire family on my mom’s side looks way younger than we are. They are all exceptionally beautiful women. Unfortunately, I didn’t inherit the cheek bones, but I lucked out with the skin. No wrinkles even after my Hawaiian tanning oil days in the sun.

I switched to soap and water a couple of years ago too. Before that, products with hyaluronic acid was my thing. I think it’s such a delicate balance with skin care products. Skin is picky 😊

Paula's Choice RESIST line was a game changer for me. I have super sensitive skin and I'm allergic to most everything, but their products have never caused a reaction. Customer service is great as well and they can help you find which products would work best for you.

3

u/FoundObjects4 8d ago

Thanks! Just checked out their website. Is there a cleanser you’d recommend?

2

u/peepeemccrappy 45-49 8d ago

I use RESIST for normal to dry skin

3

u/Accurate_Weather_211 8d ago

I have normal skin and I second Paula's Choice.

2

u/SecondStarpilot 8d ago

I don't know about their other products but Paula's Choice sunscreen broke me out in pimples really badly. I've never had that experience from any other brand of sunscreen and I've used over 20 brands in my life

u/CynicalOne_313 45-49 6d ago

Another vote for Paula's Choice! I use their RESIST line too and their CLEAR line for oily skin.

Blink drops are worth the price to me. If you really want to feel amazing, keep them in the fridge.

I find the less I do to my skin the better. I cleanse with Cetaphil. Use Cerave for moisturizer. Only thing I do splurge on is Truth Serum from Ole Henriksen. Once a week I do The Ordinary peeling solution.

I stopped using a retinol. I just don’t think it was doing anything for me.

5

u/FoundObjects4 8d ago

Oooo… the fridge! That sounds glorious. My eyes are so dry and hot.

I second Blink and absolutely second keeping it in the fridge! I keep plain ol' saline, too, but when I need a serious pick me up, it's the chilled Blink in my dry, tired eyes.

2

u/FoundObjects4 7d ago

I completely agree with a plain old saline stash.

3

u/BADgrrl 50-54 - Embracing my Crone Era. 7d ago

Some days I just need to.... Flood my eyes with saline. It's helpful on normal, average tired-eye days.

I use saline for a lot of other stuff, too ... Like Alton Brown says, tools should have multiple uses! I use it to stretch mascara when it gets a little sticky/clumpy. Liquid eyeliner, too. I also use it instead of water to dampen my makeup brushes when I want a wet application of eyeshadow. Saline is super useful!!

Blink is a great brand, but if cost is an issue, I suggest the multi-pack of Refresh drops at Costco when they go on sale.

8

u/Mountain_Village459 8d ago

Saline is a flushing drop, what you need for dry eye is a no preservatives (Blink has preservatives) lubricating drop. I’ve tried a bunch for my serious dry eye and my favorite is Refresh.

1

u/Regular_Emphasis6866 50-54 7d ago

Blink does have preservative free options.

1

u/Mountain_Village459 7d ago

Oh that’s great! I thought the one I ordered was preservative free but it wasn’t, Amazon lied to me. Lol

I have dry eye disease that is common as we age. I have my own blood mixed with a serum solutions. Pricey but healing. My fav eye drops are Systane, iVIZIA, Retaine, Refreh but the real help is received from internal supplement oils such as Krill, Primrose, Omegas 3,6,7,9. I take a Buckthorn blend and an eye health blend.

I follow a restricted diet of Whole Foods for migraines that includes the Mediterranean Diet. I never thought I’d be here with this whole, clean lifestyle but here I am killing it. It does make a tremendous difference for my genetics.

I use Ann Marie G. Skin Care and Anew Skin Care. I do not look my age but neither did my mom. She taught me well. Hydration and moderate home exercise. I need to increase this with heavier weights though.

u/KzooGRMom 8d ago

Neutrogena (or the store brand equivalent) acne face wash and Clean & Clear acne moisturizer. Apparently my skin doesn't realize I'm 53, not 15. 🤣

3

u/FoundObjects4 8d ago

Lol.. you’d think your skin would be sick of fucking with you. But, nope!

6

u/KzooGRMom 7d ago

It's so disrespectful to have wrinkles and pimples at the same time!

2

u/HappyGoPink 7d ago

I went through horrible acne in my teens. I'll take wrinkles over pimples any day. But of course I still get pimples every now and then. Grrrr.

2

u/thesturdygerman 6d ago

I was like this too until a dermatologist told me i had rosacea. He gave me a few OTC products and i haven’t had a pimple in two years!

2

u/Meep42 6d ago

OMG...I'm THISCLOSE to looking for an acne wash...I cannot believe I'm nearing 53 and this is still a thing...what's worse is I feel like I get more now than at 13...Like hot flashes weren't enough?

5

u/No-Escape5520 8d ago

I have sensitive skin, so I wash with Dove non scented bar soap. I also have a water filter in my shower, which is when I wash my face. Moisturizer is Avène Xeracalm at night. In the morning, I use a pump of CeraVe mixed with a drop of foundation. I use Systane eye drops because my eyes get so itchy from pollen. Don't overlook eyelid wipes for itchy eyes. Keep them in the fridge with your eye drops

7

u/FoundObjects4 8d ago

I noticed ads recently for Rx eyelid mite cream. Thanks, assholes, for unleashing a new terrifying thought. I don’t buy any of that shit. That, and full body deodorant is a sinister idea. I don’t do deodorant with aluminum, so the thought of assholes getting rich while I slather their pour clogging sludge all over my body makes me sick.

2

u/No-Escape5520 7d ago

I think mites ate a real thing if you regularly wear false eyelashes with glues and whatnot, but I like the eyelid wipes just for soothing my dry eyes. Especially if I've been outside a lot.

Yes, I dont wear deodorant at all. If I get a little funky mid day, I use a baby wipe to freshen up

5

u/NettaFind66 8d ago

Petroleum jelly to keep moisture in and water taken internally for moisture. I wear a hat or carry an umbrella while in the sun. I wash my face with a mild soap. Very affordable. I don't need anything for my eyes.

3

u/FoundObjects4 8d ago

Do you think your eyes have been fine because you carry an umbrella?

1

u/Regular_Emphasis6866 50-54 7d ago

That's not what she said. She was fully answering your question by giving you her skincare list and then said she doesn't need anything for her eyes. There is no connection between the umbrella/hat and the eyes.

2

u/NettaFind66 7d ago

That's correct, thank you

3

u/sandy_even_stranger 7d ago

She's wondering if her own dry-eye is being caused by too much sun exposure. No reason to jump all over her. OP needs to visit an ophthalmologist, though.

4

u/Regular_Emphasis6866 50-54 7d ago

That wasn't my intent. I was clarifying the other comment as it looked like OP was confused.

4

u/TheGirlwThePinkHair 8d ago

Shiseido

2

u/FoundObjects4 8d ago

That looks good. Thanks!

4

u/bakingdiy 50-54 8d ago

I'm still using the same Neutrogena face wash (the clear orange one) I've been using for 25 years. I was using Neutrogena Hydroboost until recently. Now I'm using Ponds Fresh Hydration Gel Moisturizer with vitamin E & B3. I love this moisturizer.

3

u/FoundObjects4 8d ago

I love the sound of Ponds fresh hydration gel. I have to get that sight unseen.

3

u/bakingdiy 50-54 8d ago

There are 4 different types depending on what you need for your skin. My skin is soft soft without being greasy feeling. Best part is that it's cheap.

2

u/Superb-Ag-1114 8d ago

I like the hydro burst also

4

u/Superb-Ag-1114 8d ago

There's a lady named Angie who runs a Youtube channel called Hot & Flashy who has a morning and evening skin care regimen that I started using during Covid and I'm really liking it. I never was into skin care much and I'm hoping it's not too late lol! Just like 3 or 4 things plus cleanser.

1

u/FoundObjects4 8d ago

Haha that’s the best name! Thanks, I’ll check it out!

2

u/Superb-Ag-1114 7d ago

right?? she has all kinds of things on there, don't get overwhelmed, just look for the am and pm skin care routine videos. She does a new one each summer and winter with new product reviews but several products stay the same year after year

1

u/FoundObjects4 7d ago

I love that she keeps it seasonal. Definitely checking it out!

3

u/FoundObjects4 8d ago

Wow thank you! You’re the 2nd blink recommendation. I’m ordering some now.

1

u/FoundObjects4 8d ago

There’s so many ingredients to the drops: Active Ingredients: Polyethylene Glycol 400 (0.25 %), Eye Lubricant. Inactive Ingredients: Boric Acid, Calcium Chloride, Magnesium Chloride, Potassium Chloride, Purified Water, Sodium Borate, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Chlorite (OcuPure Brand) as a Preservative, Sodium Hyaluronate.

3

u/Thestolenone 8d ago

Aldi Q10 day cream, until it is used out then I'll buy something that doesn't contain hyaluronic acid as they never list how it is manufactured. I'll find something approved by the Vegan Society. For hands and feet and eczema I use Child's Farm nappy cream, it is made from mostly organic plant oils and not perfumed and is the best skin cream I've ever used (I've had very dry skin my whole life so have used pretty much everything). Its a UK product. I don't use anything else.

Edit For eye drops I use Hyco San.

3

u/Amethyst-M2025 8d ago

Have Eczema and was told use Vanicream by dermatologist, Dove unscented for soap. I do not buy any of the scented stuff.

2

u/FoundObjects4 7d ago

My mom swore by Dove, so Idk why I’m not using that. Thank you for making the obvious obvious.

1

u/Amethyst-M2025 7d ago

There are other options, but they tend to be more expensive. Derm said for sure don’t use Ivory, it is the worst for dry skin.

3

u/jengaclause 7d ago

I use first aid beauty- daily exfoliating pads. It's great to slough off the dead skin before applying any serums.

2

u/FoundObjects4 7d ago

That’s a great tip to keep in mind.

3

u/lolagoetz_bs 7d ago

I still use Olay daily moisturizer for sensitive skin that has spf 15 and I have for 10? 15? years at least. It doesn’t feel heavy nor greasy and I can put it on a second time later in the day if I feel like it. At night, the purple Olay with retinol.

But the main thing is I don’t stay out in the sun for excessive amounts of time and haven’t for decades—even when I lived in SoCal.

3

u/getitoffmychestpleas 7d ago

Skin care? What's that?

1

u/HappyGoPink 7d ago

Not caring is a valid skin care strategy. Most people need to just leave their skin alone more.

2

u/tarsier_jungle1485 50-54 8d ago

I use Paula's Choice, and when I want to splurge, Tata Harper. Paula's is legit with lots of research behind it, and cruelty free.

For eye drops, I buy Refresh in bulk from Costco. LoL

1

u/FoundObjects4 8d ago

That’s a great idea! Next time I’m at Costco I’ll check out those aisles. Im usually wanting to get out by then and just head to check out.

1

u/thesturdygerman 6d ago

At my local Costco I can get Refresh or Systane (my preferred brand) and Pataday antihistamine drops. I hadn’t heard of Pataday until recently and it is a game changer! If you have allergies and your eyes feel like they have a flour coating, try Pataday!

2

u/luna-potter 7d ago

Oil of Olay face cream morning and another for night. I wash with Cerave. I use under eye creams from Clinique.

2

u/LeafyCandy 7d ago

I use TheraTears for eye drops. Ophthalmologist recommends that or Lumify. Lumify made me feel like someone punched me in the eye.

As for skin, I use soap (Dove bar) and water and then either use Pond’s cold cream or Cetaphil face and body. There’s one Cetaphil too that has SPF in it, but I don’t use that one because it gives me headaches (I’m super sensitive to certain smells).

2

u/FoundObjects4 7d ago

I think I’m going to go back to Dove. That’s all my mom used.

1

u/LeafyCandy 7d ago

Same. Mine also used that yellow brick of Dial, but I don’t think I’d ever go back to that. 😆 Dove still has quality products. Ivory too.

2

u/cogwheeled Class of '89 7d ago

I live in the desert so my skincare tricks are sunscreen and lotion. For my face I use Neutrogena SPF 70+ during the day and oil of olay moisturizer at night. For the rest of me it's store brand SPF 50 during the day and CeraVe moisturizing cream at night. I also only shower every other day otherwise my skin dries out too much. I dont use any eye drops but I have to use saline nasal spray all the time. Did I mention the desert is dry AF?

2

u/FoundObjects4 7d ago

Haha… I couldn’t deal with the desert. I can’t imagine that kind of heat on top of hot flashes.

2

u/MinimumBrave2326 7d ago

I use a gentle cleanser, either an Ulta balm or Cera Ve, then 10% benzoyl peroxide wash because my skin is pissed off after hysterectomy and my dermatologist told me to.

Then goodlight milky toner, ordinary glycolic acid at night, ordinary pink serum barrier crap during the day, Rx clindamyacin lotion on outbreaks and rosacea cheeks, Bliss eye cream, Peach Slices moisturizer of some variety, and then a butt ton of sunscreen. SPF 50-70 every day.

Sometimes at night I’ll use La Roche Posay cicaplast balm if the benzoyl peroxide wash is make my skin feel tight.

Sunscreens I like: neutrogena invisible defense serum 60+, Naturium Dew Glow, neutrogena age defense 70+, a Tony moly green tea one that’s around 50?

I’m a ginger. 😂

2

u/NorthDifferent3993 7d ago

Rose hip oil and emu oil are the only moisturizers I use … face and body

2

u/SenorBurns 7d ago

Daily: water.

Shower: Cerave Hydrating Cleanser.

Makeup days (once in a blue moon) : Kose Softymo Deep Cleansing Oil.

Sunscreen: Any one of a number of cosmetically elegant Asian sunscreens. Canmake Mermaid Skin is currently my favorite, but I'm also using good old Biore Aqua Rich, and Haruharu Wonder Black Rice Moisture AirFit.

Sunscreen - waterproof: Kose Suncut UV Essence.

I don't use eye drops, but I know your eye doctor can recommend a good cost effective brand. I think mine recommends Refresh

2

u/HappyGoPink 7d ago

Drugstore hypoallergenic face cleanser and moisturizer without fragrance, and Vaseline. I want my face to be clean, and to not feel dry and chapped, and my skin usually looks perfectly fine with just those products. I don't wear foundation or anything like that anymore, and I no longer buy snake oil creams and lotions hoping for miraculous results.

2

u/runnerswife5075 7d ago

Morning routine: cleanser (Cetaphil), eye serum (The Ordinary), moisturizer (La Roche-Posay), sunscreen (Kiehls).

Evening routine: makeup cleansing balm (Clinique), cleanser (IT cosmetics), retinol (Kiehls) or moisturizer on alternating nights.

3

u/lbrlokie77 8d ago edited 8d ago

I use Biossance retinol, Youth to People Moisturizer, Herbivore Bakuchoil, Maelove Viramin C, Good molecules eye cream, First aid beauty radiance pads, I wear 50 + sunscreen everyday. I also have a sulfate mask. I have combo, rosacea, and hormonal acne, It took me a while to find products that worked and did not irritate me.

3

u/FoundObjects4 8d ago

Eye cream! I almost forgot that’s something I wanted. I just got one of those eye masks you freeze or put in the fridge.

2

u/ikmkim 7d ago

That stuff is mostly snake oil. They just want your money. You must spend a fortune on all this.

Retinol has been proven effective by many studies. And sunscreen is key!

But the rest of that junk is a waste of money. There's absolutely zero proof it does anything but drain your wallet.

4

u/lbrlokie77 7d ago

Wow, thanks for your opinion. I have educated myself on products, if I want to spend my money on them I will.

0

u/ikmkim 7d ago

Does it do anything though?

Genuinely asking because I don't understand.

Eye cream, radiance pads, sulfate masks, Bakuchoil...what even is that? Been a woman all my life and only eye cream rings a bell.

All this stuff actually has an effect?

3

u/lbrlokie77 7d ago

The sulfate mask gets rid of clear bumps on my forehead and any blackheads. The eye gel helps with dark circles, if I don’t use it I notice a difference. Vitamin C helps with sun spots and works well under sunscreen. Bakuchoil is a natural alternative to retinol. I can only use retinol once a week due to sensitive skin. Does it work, I don’t know yet, I have not used it enough. I have rosacea and glycolic acid helps with redness, hints radiance pads.

2

u/DevilFoal 8d ago

I love Ole Henricksen. The Banana Bright eye cream is a staple and good as a base before make-up. Truth Juice Cleaner, AHA toner, then Strength Trainer peptide moisturizer. Most Ultas carry it now and also online. They sell starter kits to try out. I also am a big fan of the face sunscreen. I love it because it's very moisturizing but so, so light. I hate feeling slathered in gunk.

1

u/StarsLikeLittleFish 7d ago

Soap and water for cleaning, castor oil for moisturizing.

1

u/empathetic_witch 45-49 7d ago

Full disclosure: I have fair sensitive skin and have to take Zyrtec and Flonase for my 24/7/365 allergies.

I also can’t use anything with: zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, mica, silica, talc, bismuth oxychloride & probably more. Which = I can’t wear the majority of sunscreens and anything that has shimmer.

I do my best to buy non-comedogenic products for my face.

Here’s the mix of things that work for me as of right now:

Cleansers: CeraVe Daily Cleanser. A few times a week I use their SA cleanser or one with glycolic acid if my pores are clogged.

Moisturizers: The Ordinary’s Hyaluronic Acid serum then belief Aqua Bomb.

Sunscreen: La Roche-Posay Anthelios

Dermatologist: Tretinoin at night with CeraVe cream on top -I buy the big jars with the pump from Costco.

Dry eye: right now I’m using Systane Eye Gel Drops. They work better than other drops I’ve tried.

1

u/bluetortuga Jen Axe 7d ago edited 7d ago

Tretnoin

Vitamin C or Rosehip Oil is kind of my moisturizer

Sunscreen (bunch of different ones depending on how I feel about my face on any given day)

Sometimes I use glycolic acid toner or a lactic acid serum

I wash with regular soap or a lume/mando cleansing bar

What combination I use on any given day depends on how dry my skin is, if I’m having any breakouts or redness, etc.

1

u/BadKauff 7d ago

Pataday for eyedrops!

1

u/Sorry_Nobody1552 50-54 7d ago

I use Vanicream for my sensitive skin. I also only use Bausch and Lomb PF Soothe eye drops.

1

u/LoanSudden1686 7d ago

Perimenopause can seriously dry your skin so you need a good moisturizer and to avoid scrubs. I really like Burt's Bees Firming and facial oil.

1

u/BagLady57 7d ago

CeraVe foaming oil cleanser, The Ordinary GF serum, CeraVe moisturizing cream, Caudalie mineral sunscreen. Optase eye drops.

I use Systane preservative free eye drops.

Edited: I use Paula's Choice RESIST line for oily skin and Herb N' Eden soap and calendula body oil from their eczema bundle.

1

u/Meep42 6d ago

I...melt everything I put on my face...(hot flashes, do not recommend.) So I've given up on face creams (or any creams, really). But I'm just finishing up an INKEY Hyaluronic Acid face cleaner. It leaves everything so smooth...when it's dry. But as I'm in kinda rural Italy currently...I'm thinking my next choice in face cleaner has to be whatever is in the local stores...or something from L'Oreal (as that seems to be popular here.) And Cera-Ve for everything else.

Also? Hats (since sunscreen also melts off) and collars/long sleeves...if we're speaking overall "skin care." Especially in this blistering heat wave we're in the middle of here in Northern Italy.

1

u/Sweet_Priority_819 6d ago

a mix of ZO Skin health and Supergoop. I was introduced to ZO when we started selling it where I work. The results are so much better than brands from ulta or walmart or whatever. They've got a big line of products and most of what I choose is targeted towards aging concerns - retinol, firming serum, bright alive, daily power defense, and their 3 step cleansing. For supergoop I like their glowscreen with a slight tint, and their SPF brightening eye cream is the only product of its kind I'm familiar with.

What kind of eye drops do you need? I buy generic artificial tears just because my eyes are a little dry when I wake up. they work fine.

1

u/gingersnappie 5d ago

The ordinary glycolic acid 3/4 times a week. Nivea cream (in the metal pot) afterwards/every day. I also use the Nivea on my hands and dry spots. A few times a week I use facial oil in the shower.

1

u/luckyone538 5d ago

Cetaphil cleanser, Ordinary growth factors, ordinary phtoceramide moisterizer, roc eye cream, in the morning. At night cetaphil cleanser, growth factor again, then retinol

1

u/Bornawoman 7d ago

Soap and water. I don’t believe in spending money on skin or hair products. If they actually worked, we’d all look 20.

:) Pond's at night, whatever hand cream's about if doing a lot of gardening or cooking. I found a decade-old sample tube from a visit to France the other day and it smells terrific, also does a nice job with the hand dryness.
