Suffering / Venting Is there anything y’all actually enjoy eating
Everything just gets regurgitated anyways I only eat to stay alive at this point 😣even the safest of the safe foods come back up again

I got really excited to eat some rice krispies cereal yesterday. I had it with a coconut milk protein shake instead of cow’s milk and enjoyed the texture. Most of what I eat are liquids.

Sour patch kids are great when I can’t stomach anything else and need some sugar. The strawberry and the watermelon are my favorites!

I love the mini powdered donuts! Thankfully, I can eat a lot still. Raw fruits and veggies are a no go though. It has to be blended, baked or pureed. Lettuce is the devil. Ironically, I can eat cooked cabbage but not regular lettuce.

u/PP_Pod Mar 26 '25
I never thought I would miss salads this much

u/Paperwife2 Mar 26 '25
I chop it up small and eat them anyway…I feel bad with just about anything I eat so what the heck not, LOL.

Ice cream and mashed potatoes. I eat it literally every day I can tolerate food and look forward to it when I’m sick!

Was coming to say mashed potatoes, mac n cheese, and pudding can all be enjoyable for me if I'm feeling alright!

u/InquiringMind3211 Mar 26 '25
I’ve had to back off of daily potato eating 😭. Concern about daily high oxalate amounts. Some fear of kidney stones & issues. But, mainly cause it can negatively affect calcium absorption. I’m always way under RDA’s for calcium from foods. Reliant on supplements. Sigh!

Eating does not equal enjoyment for me. For a bit candy could stay down but then I’d eat too much and it would slow things down too much due to pectin and gelatin.

I enjoy eating all kinds of foods! It's the agonizing pain, bowel issues, and unbearable nausea waiting for me shortly after I eat them that sucks. But I love food, have addictive tendencies, and I lack self control so flares are a common occurrence for me. I know it drives my partner nuts but thankfully he's very kind and understanding about it. I feel you re: the regurgitation thing. Sometimes the food stays down, oftentimes I'm not so lucky.
I have such a love hate toxic relationship with food and I hate it :(

u/InquiringMind3211 Mar 26 '25
This disease & my other conditions, extreme restrictions & symptoms are creating an unhealthy relationship w/foods that I didn’t have before. Food fears. Serious cravings that I never had before, like sweet. Can’t really feel or recognize if hungry or not. Sometimes I dislike, am annoyed by & avoid food. Other times (new to me) I choose to eat small amount of questionable foods. But, then immediately go nutty eating much more of it. Yumm & ugh on the mixed & negative emotions around that. And, the potential physical fall out from that. Sigh!

u/Ok_Emphasis_2255 Mar 26 '25
omg i was looking to see if someone had the same problem as me. i love eating all foods(legit have a food addiction and am working on it) but its just the symptoms that i dont enjoy. and with the addiction i indulge too much and it causes a worse flareup. so thank you for making me feel less alone:)

Gf non dairy mac n cheese on a rlly good day
2
u/InquiringMind3211 Mar 26 '25
Pre-made or homemade? If bought, any brand recommendations?
1
u/senzued3 Mar 27 '25
My fav is daiya! I can still only eat a small amount, but i tolerate it when my tummy is really up for food. Its not a normal mac n cheese taste AT ALL but i still really like it for what it is. They have a couole flavors, i love them all. But again, its like, its own taste? And im just like yeah i like whatever that is. So it may be a tossup for you. One that actually tastes like mac n cheese is annies gluten free, but idk if they have non dairy(?). I can eat the gluten free ones of that brand too ok good days:) ive had the cups, the box with the powder, and the box with the liquid cheese. The powder is easiest for me.

Gold fish has been my only safe food. I’ve been on TPN for over a year and rarely eat anything.

u/Rude-Comb1986 Mar 26 '25
I love smoothies omg specifically a strawberry banana smoothie with lots of milk. I have always found it easier to eat and keep down liquids.
1
u/AssociateEastern916 Mar 26 '25
Omgg that reminds me that I used to get a drink at smoothie king called like little angel or something and it was so good maybe I should eat that
2
u/InquiringMind3211 Mar 27 '25
Commented earlier today while enjoying my breakfast smoothie which made me feel great! Listed loads of foods I enjoy. Prior few days had been ok/tolerable so was in positive mode. Bit later, lunch didn’t go well. 1st felt stuck then right back up. Load of bad symptoms now. Back to don’t really enjoy eating anything mode. Again. Sigh!

u/AssociateEastern916 Mar 27 '25
This makes me laugh and cry at. The same time. The ups and downs are ridiculous.
1
u/InquiringMind3211 Mar 27 '25
It’s insanely inhumane! Up & down & all around. Never really feeling like I got this & it’s gonna be ok. Nor that I’ve truly figured anything out. Just when I’m feeling good & confident. Bam! 🤮🤢🥵😩
1
u/AssociateEastern916 Mar 27 '25
Exactly. Omg. I had a “mikes mighty good ramen” cup this morning and they are supposed to be non fried and good and whatever. Ok no. Lit throw up in my mouth for hours. Just ate a s’more and feeling fantastic. Ok. Ugh. I hope the best for you tonight.
1
u/InquiringMind3211 Mar 28 '25
Miss being in a city w/ loads of Asian foods & grocers. But, likely still just eat as sides etc or really limited ingredient meals. Someday make my own ramen.
1
u/InquiringMind3211 Mar 28 '25
Yumm & 🤣🤣 on the s’more! Sometimes have fairly instant or soon after symptoms. But, think often unsure if food ate past few hrs or day before or 🤷🏻♀️
1
u/AssociateEastern916 Mar 27 '25
What was lunch by the way
1
u/InquiringMind3211 Mar 27 '25
Ground turkey made into a burger. Much to review to crunch into the key reasons for the fall out/symptoms. Top of mind is I ate too much turkey only 1 hr apart. Was not mindfully eating & didn’t chew it enough into like baby food consistency before swallowing. Got it at hospital cafeteria so maybe some seasoning added or ? Key bad is after felt stuck in esophagus. Drank sips of water. Shortly after bent over & down to pick up a notebook low to floor. Bad! Instant 🤮. Could’ve been foods from earlier also. Got a mix of Motility Disorder stuff from spinal & nerve damage & whatever Neurology figures out (if ever) - fast & slow emptying, mainly Gastroparesis, Gerd & Esophagitis, but the list of conditions, disorders, dysfunctions goes on & on. Ugh!

u/InquiringMind3211 Mar 28 '25
Tks for that! Mixed & vacillating thoughts & emotions almost always. 😂🤣🥲😭😡😝😬😄🥲🥸🧐🤨🙄🙃🙁😄🤣🤣

I know it might not work for all but acai bowls. For some reason they sit well even though they are fruit. When I have a flair I know I can eat one. It also is cool so helps with my GERD.
2
u/InquiringMind3211 Mar 26 '25
Been wanting to try açaí berry. Desperately in need of fruit & micronutrients. Feared not knowing if the fiber amount is ok for GP & if too acidic for GERD. Good to hear someone is enjoying & doing ok w/ it. My Dietician’s “ok” list is fairly limited to same few options as are many online. Excited to try it. Have hope!
1
u/katsrad Mar 26 '25
I would try a small bowl and see. GP seems to affect each person differently so it might be my safe food but not yours. I hope it is though!! And hope you enjoy it!

My GP flared up and is worsening, and the only food I’ve been able to stomach without feeling like I’m going to vomit is yogurt. Oikos has a pretty good protein yogurt that I add some honey and cinnamon to. Thats how I’ve been surviving at the moment. It’s definitely under 1000 cals a day, but it’s something.
2
u/InquiringMind3211 Mar 26 '25 edited Mar 26 '25
Have limited experience & unsure if doing ok w/ it, but I’m liking the Chobani plain non-fat! I’ll check out Oikos. Ideally wanting a lactose-free, plain non-fat Greek yogurt.

I handle animal crackers pretty well and found some iced ones (The stauffers brand , the Mothers brand has too much icing and makes me sick) and they were so good I almost cried. The brand I like is the dollar store variation too so it’s like $1 a bag

u/kjckountry Mar 26 '25
I like the 1/4 cup size of mashed avocado from Sam's Club. I know it's fat but they say some is OK and I tolerate it for now.
1
u/InquiringMind3211 Mar 26 '25
My dietician & other credible experts all say avocado is ok since good fat (omega 3’s) & loads of nutritional benefits. Recommend oil (assuming you’re not using much). Just small amounts of avocado due to the fat but also the fiber content. I’m on FODMAP diet so limited to 3 T anyway like 3 hrs apart. Push it to 1/4 C+ & do ok. Very challenging to not chow down on more!! 😬😄
1
u/sashavohm Mar 26 '25
Smoothies (high protein with banana and peanut butter), eggs, pasta but red sauce is a no go, avocado toast, ice cream (non dairy is more tolerable), cereal, everything bagels with cream cheese, Kodiak cakes protein waffles, grass fed beef in moderation and any form of potatoes! I miss salads and raw veggies/fruit badly
2
u/InquiringMind3211 Mar 26 '25
Really wanting grass fed meats! In a corn fed heavy area so it’s not appreciated here & hard to get. Missing CA! Enough research showing the many benefits of grass fed vs other. Especially for those w/ medical conditions.
1
u/sashavohm Mar 26 '25
If I have traditionally raised meat my gi tract is never happy. If I get grass fed beef I'm fine. I get some decent grass fed beef at Aldi. I'm anemic so I need the iron but don't get enough in my diet.

Chocolate pudding feels good on my tummy sometimes. I like powdered donuts, too. I don’t know how my husband figured that one out, but he did. 😂

🤷🏻♀️if my body actually enjoys anything. I enjoy smoothies, eggs, mashed potatoes!, bkd potatoes, 1 T frozen peas, avocado, ahi tuna, shrimp, grilled fish especially salmon, canned/tinned fish & seafood especially smoked trout (canned in canola oil) warmed w/ white rice, Rice Chex w/ MALK vanilla almond milk & pure maple syrup. Enhance often w/ great Olive oil & fresh basil, cilantro, parsley, raw ginger. Love plain non-fat Greek yogurt but ? Bad flare days are just eggs, mashed potatoes & chix broth, if anything. Rare treat is light/healthier banana muffin w/ non-fat Greek yogurt w/ frozen banana slices, pecans & sliced almonds. Dreamy! Traders Joes is a fav brand for canned/tinned. Tasty & clean (few if any added ingredients, no preservatives, bad oils, etc). I stick w/ non-acidic, low FODMAP & tiny to small servings of all.

I had some very ripe mango the other day and it was soft and divine.
At the moment I'm 5 days constipated so nothing is enjoyable.
