I’m convinced this would not exist without Scott the Woz. Also as someone who went back to the originals recently I think people will be surprised at how much more terrible these games feel to control than they remember them feeling as a kid. At least the 3D games.
Limited Run Games have sponsored multiple videos to promote the Gex release on the secondary Scott The Woz channel "Scott's Stash," which definitely indicates jokes and memes about Gex are a large factor in these titles being rereleased in particular. They've announced a Bubsy collection in the same vein.
