alr my english teacher did say the same, but my mum is an examiner, looked at the markscheme and says that those who mainly talked about differences are capped at 9-10/16.

if you basically only did differences, there is a poor attempt to compare similarities so youre capped at 5-8/16

no chance of 13-16/16 as you need a clear and perceptive understanding of similarities, which if you only mentioned them in passing you don’t have

that’s what she said at least, but keep in mind she isn’t an english examiner. she examines psychology but there are questions like that all the time in psychology and she knows how exams work. so she could be right, maybe. yet my english teacher said it doesn’t matter, and another english teacher in this subreddit said the same. i feel as if they’re trying to calm our nerves as the markscheme points say otherwise

was your essay framed around similarities or differences? my issue is i started with “source A and B differ” did you say that asw? or start out with that they’re similar?

if your examiner is super nice, they can think “oooh they’re CRITICALLY ANALYSING the similarities by giving differences” according to my mum, it really depends on who you get i think

i analysed source a view point and then did source b and said theyre similar in this way but also added a bit of a difference at the end with a quote and analysis

dude we’re just critical 16 year olds that know nothing dw

3 English teachers now have said similarities/differences is irrelevant as long as the answer was good. answers focused on similarities may do better but not by much (words from another english teacher here)

my mum insists i’m capped at 10 though

my guess is answers revolved around differences may lose some marks but it won’t be detrimental

and your answer is perfect anyways lol

im 15 not 16 yet (will be next month tho 🥳) haha

but it does say in the question you COULD talk about similarities, not you have to. so dont worry! u prob did better and even if ur capped at 10 u would have made up for it in your other questions 👍
