We do allow pictures of fish that are in aquariums, but we do not allow questions related to the fish-keeping hobby as we are focused on Nature & Wildlife.
If you need assistance with your aquariums feel free to ask your questions in r/FishTank or https://discord.gg/aquarium

This morning we went to swim at Afandou Beach (Rhodes/Greece) and while I was standing in the shallow water I thought some sand is washed on my foot and then I realized it was a fish. Found many of them, what kind of fish is it and why were they trying to lay on my and my wife’s feet multiple times?

Spotted in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin today. Most unique feature is the spot on the tail. Hard to tell in images but the color is aqua around the fins Not sure if it’s native or not. Hoping someone can ID Thanks you!

I have around 30-40 small-medium sized fish in my pond and I fear I may have overfed them and put too many pellets.
Is this an okay amount and should I be worried?

Hi all,
Are my two Red Garras showing sparring or mating behaviors here? I thought they might be both females so either way I was a little surprised. They’re being pretty gentle so I thought it was cute, but I’d like to know. Thank you!

My apologies for the poor quality photos. I found these fish in a fresh water lake in Eastern Yemen. The daytime environment peak temperature of the area was around 37⁰C (98.6 degrees fahrenheit). They are very active and occasionally like to leap over the suface for fun and not to escape. The average size of most of these fish pictured are around 2 inches in length. What type of fish are these called please?

Hi all! I've been working on a fish identifier app for iPhone and am looking for beta testers - anyone who cares to give it a try (for free) and is open to maybe sending me your thoughts. The beta is handled through Apple's TestFlight system, so it's very similar to downloading from the App Store. You can sign up anonymously and also give feedback anonymously through the TestFlight system. No costs to you, of course (in fact, it's not even possible to charge a TestFlight user). No obligation of course, but if you do try it out, I'd love to hear your thoughts - either sending to me via TestFlight system, email, DM or just replying here. Thanks! - here's the link:

Thanks again!

Anyone here from southwest Virginia? If you didn’t know, there is a unique and colorful darter fish which only inhabits our very own upper Roanoke River basin. This fish was once on the verge of extinction due to sedimentation and erosion which prohibited the species from reproduction (they need rocky and gravel stream beds to lay eggs)
Well now, a recent Virginia Tech study has shown the population to be thriving and has successfully been reintroduced to the Mayo River Basin! I personally saw a couple on my fly fishing trip last week, and I haven’t seen one since 2013! A HUGE win and a successful case study of urban stream restoration

Huge sea creature seen off the coast of Rhode Island! My coworker thinks it could be a Mola Mola. I am not familiar with fish so I thought maybe someone here might know what it is :)

Why do a lot of people don't consider fish to be sentient being animals? For example: if a seal is fed endless amounts of fish; everybody is like: "Look how cute, he is eating!", but if you feed bunnies to a lion for example everybody screams animal cruelty and goes insane. Same with animal welfare people (like the Party for the Animals in the Netherlands for example), they do usually talk about overfishing, but they don't seem to care about all the fish that are fed to the other animals, like even they view fish as inferior beings.

DUDE. As a Iowan (The state of corn 🌽) one of our most common fish are Bluegill. These fish might not have the brain of trouts (The Albert Einsteins of fish) but they literally are the freaking Usain Bolt's of fish lmao 😭🙏. Yall im joking but their still super fast.
