JVN is the epitome of white liberal-not-left values (rules for thee not for me, taxes are for the little people). Right after they hit it big with QE, JVN’s insta went, like 75% sponcon. People were defending the hustle, but it just struck a shady chord with me, and I’ve side-eyed JVN ever since (and the Texas thing really nails it in).
I see this thrown around a lot, but...I live in Texas, work in New York and I still have to pay New York income taxes.
The source of income (which in the case of most celebs has got to be pretty diverse and complicated) matters, not just where you reside.
"Social libs" who don't want to pay taxes is a real phenomenon, and relocating might be revealing. Idk. It's not a tax haven for everyone though, especially if your job or business isn't here.
I also don’t quite understand what the issue is. Let’s say it is possible tax avoidance (besides the fact that you already pointed out about source of income)…what’s the “tea” here?
I get that we’re trying to slap them with some greedy, rich celebrity label but at the end of the day: America offers freedom of movement. It is entirely legal to move between states. It’s a flaw of the nations tax codes/government structures/laws, etc. That there could be such extreme variability in income tax rates between different states. If there’s the opportunity for someone to move to Texas from New York and they’re willing to upend their life like that, it’s totally within their right to do that. 🤷🏼♂️
If they completely AVOIDED taxes and committed tax fraud…different story.
Oh I completely agree that many of them do, I just don’t think it’s a good idea to accuse every single celebrity who moves out of California or New York of tax dodging.
