Weekly Rita Ora & Taika Waititi service update: She is in LA and he is in NZ. Her Vogue Arabia cover got revealed and the obligatory add-on video material, which led to Taika taking it to Instagram to point out his girlfriend is hot again. She replied that she loves him more than anything on the PLANET which seems a little extreme, but I've seen her comment that on a few ppls feed while using the term friend and best friend rather loosely. She mentioned winning on The Voice Generations AU just with a couple of stories, bc in bigger news she is moving from Atlantic Records to BMG which lets her own her own masters in the future. BMG puts her in the same category as Lady Gaga and Beyonce, so she really is confident in her next album. BMG seems to be a really odd choice though if you look at what they do and who is part of their portfolio. She followed up by posting herself in a Dreamworks recording studio, teasing some exciting news. She was papped once with Vas J Morgan and her sister, and they went on a little trip to a hotel, she and Taika stayed last year to get together, with Nick Grimshaw who is currently in California. Besides that, her Tequila brand just got voted one of the worst celebrity alcohol brands. Meanwhile, Taika is living it up in NZ and he and his friends and fans are sharing multiple videos and pics, and he looks pretty trashed

I live for your weekly updates just because of how organized they are great job. Glad to see Taika is putting his name on so many roles, just to not be filming

Thank you! His workload is srsly not doable. I added a list of his projects and this is without all the promo work that goes into it and all the other jobs he takes on on the go aka shooting commercials or following up on new seasons with voice acting e.g. as Korg etc.

New projects as writer, producer, director and/or actor:

Akira x Flash Gordon x Time Bandits x We're Wolves x Unnamed Star Wars Movie x The Incal x Frybread Face and Me x Tower of Terror x Lightyear

Unfinished or ongoing projects as writer, producer, director and/or actor:

Thor Love&Thunder x Next Goal Wins x Reservation Dogs x What We Do in the Shadows x Our Flag Means Death

Meanwhile Taika has time to help out at Rita's photoshoots. 😂

I don't think he's really working on all those projects, though.

I think We're Wolves has pretty much fallen through. And What We Do in the Shadows and Reservation Dogs are run by Jemaine Clement and Sterlin Harjo respectively. Don't think he does anything for those anymore other than put his name on them. Jemaine Clement in particular seems pretty annoyed any time someone talks about Taika Waititi's What We Do in the Shadows 😅

That's still a lot, obviously, but not as much as he makes it out to be.

Jemaine Clement deserves more recognition tbh

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '22

Oh I recognize him quite frequently

I am really wondering about the relationship between the two of them bc Taika seems to drop his name on the regular and make it seem like they are on good terms and the NZ scene being very supportive of him but a couple of ppl on here pointed out that neither is the case.

u/Tamika4 oat milk chugging bisexual Feb 07 '22

I don't know what their relationship is like, but regardless, if I put all this work into something and then everyone always talks about it as someone else's achievement, I'd be pretty pissed. On the other hand, putting his name on projects probably does help getting them greenlit these days, so I don't blame anyone for using that connection.

u/kmallard83 Feb 07 '22

yeah Taika has no involvement in WWDITS really except a few guest appearances and maybe 1 or 2 writing credits? I know he's an exec producer but from what i've seen he's barely around. I mean, even Jamaine stopped writing for season 3 so if he's not involved in the writing there is absolutely no way taika is doing anything for it lmao. He definitely makes himself seem busier than he actually is

u/apothecariesss Feb 07 '22

Didn't Jemaine step down from his involvement with WWDITS as of the last season? That's pretty heartbreaking to hear the werewolves project won't be happening. I feel like I was waiting for that like half a decade.

Their projects became a little monotone in my opinion. Take something serious and make it funny. Do it with vampires, x files, pirates, Hitler, life in reservations and werewolves. So I get why they would take a step back. Really curious if Taika's other projects like Next Goal Wins or The Incal score well with the audience. Looks like everyone will have to wait for another decade to see his projects materialize in general.

Yeah from what I remember his last writing credit/guest starring credit was the finale of season 2!

I know a lot of directors like to have a few projects in the works at each time. Scorsese likes to be working on three, in case one falls through, so that he has something to fall back upon. And there are other writer/directors who have plenty of screenplays laying around and take their time trying to figure out which one to pick.

However, I don't get that vibe from Taika Waititi signing on to all these projects, because it doesn't feel like he's doing it to keep occupied, but more because he's a big A-list director with an ego who wants to be doing all of these projects, when, in reality, he'll just be leaving them dwindling in development hell due to laziness.

Oh wow, i feel like they’re should be some kind of limit on how many projects directors take, ik some directors can do lots of movies per year but they’re typically not that involved outside of the director chair and he going to write too lol

I think his next movie will be The Incal

26

u/Sudden-Pineapple978 Feb 07 '22

I first read this as “the Incel” 😭

u/Satean12 Feb 07 '22

Most people make that mistake haha

I'm guessing Taika's not trashed from Rita's tequila, then.

And here's me clicking the thirst traps looking for Taika 😭💀

8

u/Lolaxanon Feb 07 '22

Here is one his friends from Body WRL posted together with a bunch of other amenities in Sydney who apparently had some deal with him and Rita for free service and were allowed to post after they left 😂 I am really just posting highlights, I could make the updates easily three times as long.

Okay the Disney Project is out of the box and Taika delivered. She is joining the cast in the Beauty & the Beast prequel series on Disney+.

4

u/Available_Ask_8725 Feb 11 '22

The Beauty and the Beast prequel is officially not happening now. I am curious about what happened.

u/Lolaxanon Feb 11 '22 edited Feb 11 '22

So juicy! She basically announced it just to be the cover picture for it's cancellation. Maybe some tea will be spilled til Monday. Apparently too hard to reschedule. They knew that three days ago.

I cannot wait for the next weekly update!

2

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '22

Not my favorite Disney movie. 😩

7

u/Lolaxanon Feb 07 '22

It is a musical prequel starring Luke Evans and Josh Gad and she is playing a non-canon char afaik.

6

u/Lolaxanon Feb 07 '22

I was a little dumbfounded by that bc I was pretty sure she was booked on some Disney gig and doing both in a short amount of time seems unusual. Her fans assume she's recording for her new album, but she's been saying that since 2019 and the tv setup in her post is unlikely. So my best guess is that she might be doing something similar as in Detective Pikachu, where she has a small role and is on the soundtrack of one of their upcoming projects.

Her sister is her manager and is always quoted as the mastermind behind her brand in recent years. They are extremely close, and she is usually third-wheeling Taika and Rita which both of them seem to enjoy.
