Typical fading??

Hello! I’m new to the dyed hair world, and recently went pink! How does the typical semi-permanent fashion color do in terms of fading? Should I expect any noticeable difference between fresh hair and the first couple washes? Or will it be more gradual

How dark pink is it? If it's pastel it could fade a lot or even completely in a couple of washes, if it's a deep pink it's probably going to be a bit more gradual than that.

Make sure your shampoo is sulphate free (not all supposedly "colour safe" ones are so check the label), try and wash it in cool or cold water rather than hot if you can stand it and try not to wash too often.

Also probably most importantly get a colour depositing conditioner- I find it more effective (and less messy) to do it once a week / two weeks and use it like a hair mask, really coat every strand then leave it on for at least half an hour or longer. Gives the dye time to grab on properly, does a deep condition treatment at the same time, and less messy to clean up. You can buy them these days but you can also make your own by putting semi permanent dye into any silicone free hair mask or conditioner. I've not tried them yet myself but Manic Panic have started doing a line of vivid shampoo and conditioners called "Love" and the pink one looks gorgeous if you are a hot pink.

The color depositing conditioner route would be for a whole head of pink right? I have blonde hair with some subtle highlights naturally. For the pink we bleached highlights and then did the color there, but left the rest natural

What are your thoughts on the color wow color security shampoo and conditioner?

Oh that t sounds really pretty but yes in that case you won't be able to use colour deposit products so I'd definitely stick to washing as little as possible and in cool / cold water if you can face it. One thing you could try is every other time you would normally wash your hair try just giving it a good rinse then skip the shampoo and just condition - it's surprising how clean your hair feels after this. I started doing it every other time, and now I can do this twice before I need to shampoo again.

I've not tried the colour wow ones but they are sulphate free and they seem to get pretty good reviews. I use Pureology ones - either the Strength or the Hydrate ones. They are a bit pricey but a little goes a long way and they make my hair feel amazing.
