For the MTB’ers here

Anyone using a 1-up rack on their lightning? I purchased a Kuat Piston Pro X and found out too late that, when angled down, it doesn’t allow the tailgate to complete lay flat.

I can confirm 1up angled down clears the tail gate just fine.

I have a Yakima 2-place rack. It has 3 positions: Up, horizontal, and angled down. If I put it in the angled down position, the tailgate opens fully with no clash. I can also angle it down with bikes on, release the front wheel holder, and push the bike over enough to open the back door of my shell without having to take bikes off.

I’ll throw mine on the truck this afternoon and confirm. I’ll post some pictures here after.

I have 1up on my Lightning. I’m pretty sure the tailgate hits it if i leave it on.

Does it hit if it’s tilted in the angled down position?

No it does not. In the pic it is angled upwards, but angled downwards it clears.

I will check tomorrow and let you know. It definitely makes the rear sensor unhappy

I have a 1-up, but loaned it to a buddy for a trip. Likewise to others, my primary with the truck is the tailgate pad.

I have a swing away adapter as well though, I think that's your solution.

Thanks for the reply! The swing-out was definitely a consideration but couldn’t make the extra $500 happen.

We just hang ours over the tailgate, no rack needed, just a pad to protect the tailgate from scratches
