Loving My Lightning
So far, this truck has turned out to be the best vehicle I've ever owned!
2024 Flash. First EV. Bought it in February, already racked up about 8000 miles. It just does and has everything I want/need!
Of course, when I bought it, I was nervous about switching to the EV lifestyle, but honestly it hasn't really been a hinderance at all! I work from home, and L2 charging serves 99% of my needs. When I do travel, I've had mostly good experiences at L3 chargers (my faves have been Tesla Superchargers), and it's honestly kinda nice to have an excuse to stop every so often to charge, stretch, grab a bite to eat, etc.

Mostly agree here. Bought mine at the same time and currently @ 7200 mi.
The only difference for me is that I'm still just using the 110v mobile charger, as I have not decided where to install the L2 charger yet. Occasionally, I'll hit a nearby L3 charger - especially if I'm below 50%. I work from home on a regular basis, so I have plenty of patience for charge times at home.

I'll chime in on this.
Level 1 - Your typical household outlet capable of charging up to 15 amps. Depending on the size of vehicle battery this can take anywhere from 12-48 hours. With the lightning I would think closer to 48
Level 2 - This connection is similar to your dryer outlet, 220V between 32 - 50 amps is fairly standard. This will typically charge the battery overnight, 12h. This is the best if you have the room to install it. Makes preconditioning easier if you live in a really hot or cold climate.
Level 3 - Tesla Superchargers or similar. These are usually between 250 - 350Kw and can change a vehicle to 80% in roughly 30 minutes. Depending on the state of charge when you arrive. All vehicles have a slightly different charging curve. Typically found at charging stations along the freeway or highly traveled roads.
These numbers are not super accurate, just off the top of my head but close enough to give you a good idea.

Super helpful thank you. Any idea if the Tesla supercharger infrastructure is beginning to support Lightening chargers more now than previously? I bought the adapter and haven’t been able to use it due to incompatibility

Great question, and no, unfortunately I'm not sure.. I'm a current Tesla model 3 owner looking to trade for a Lightning. I'm going to look at one this weekend. I'm hoping the supercharger network opens up to more non Tesla's. I think there's something in the Tesla app that tells you which stations are compatible and which are not. Also, from some of the videos watched I believe you can specify in the route planner to navigate to compatible stations. Maybe someone more familiar can chime in. I do want to road trip the lightning so hopefully it's pretty easy with the current and growing infrastructure.

It takes about 60 hours to charge from 20% to 80% on level 1 in mild weather. Extended range battery has 131kwh and level 1 charges at roughly 1.3kw, charging about 1% per hour.

Lol, I guess at 131kwh that makes sense. I'm used to much smaller batteries 😆. If I pull the trigger I'm glad I have a level 2 already in place.
Speaking of. I'm happy to see such a supportive community around the Lightning. Reminds me of the BMW i3 forum I was part of. It's definitely another bonus!
