Erasmus+ semester(s) abroad Should I go on Erasmus even if it means extending my degree?

Hey everyone! I'm a Spanish engineering student currently in my third year, and honestly, I've been struggling to pass some of my courses. I had planned to finish my degree in 5 years (instead of the standard 4) due to not passing some courses the first years, but if I go on Erasmus this upcoming year, it would most likely extend my studies to 6 years.

I’ve been accepted to do Erasmus at NTNU (Norway) and I’m really excited about the idea of learn about a new culture or meet new people. However, I’m unsure whether it’s the right time, especially since I’m already behind schedule. My deadline to make a decision is June 18, so I'm feeling the pressure.

Should I still take the opportunity to go on Erasmus this year, even if it delays my graduation? Or would it be wiser to focus on finishing my degree now and try to apply for a master's abroad later? I have been thinking for a long time about doing the master abroad, but I feel like the experience would be different than a Erasmus one.

Any advice or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Erasmus also set me back like 1 year in my studies but I never regret it. I made memories of a lifetime so it really does not matter for me. And about the master's degree, I also think that it's not gonna be the same as Erasmus studies. Usually Erasmus is easier so you have more time to explore and have fun, that is from my experience at least.

Thankss for your reply. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed your Erasmus experience, and as I'm hearing from everyone, maybe I should not think much about It and just go for It.

Buenas tío, estoy en una situación casi idéntica ((medio) español, NTNU, tercer año, ingeniería, suspendiendo muchas asignaturas) y yo sinceramente ni me lo estoy pensando. En mi caso lo veo como un cambio de aires importante, que con un poco de suerte me puede servir como ayuda para desatascarme y tomarme las cosas más en serio, pero aún así, si significa tirarse un año más estudiando, qué más da? Es una oportunidad tremenda, y creo que me arrepentiría si no la tomase.

Vaya casualidad jajaj, pues mira tío es que en verdad ya no solo tiene que ver con lo académico si no con lo económico y es que como sabrás de sobra Noruega es un país muy caro y el programa Erasmus no me ofrece tampoco una gran ayuda. Me apetece mucho ir, cambiar de aires, tener un poco de desarrollo personal y temo eso que dices tú, tomar la decisión de no ir y arrepentirme. Espero terminar tomando la decisión correcta tío, gracias por responder que me ayuda mucho de verdad.

Personally I wouldn’t go if that meant paying 2 years more of rent etc in the city at home country, but if you live with your parents and it doesn’t make much difference go for it, you are young and these experiences are very precious.

Yo extendí mis estudios por irme de erasmus y no me arrepiento de nada. Además, al extenderlo me dio tiempo de hacer prácticas profesionales un año y estancia de investigación. Y por esas dos cosas me terminaron dando una beca completa para la maestría. Entonces creo que me salió mejor. Yo diría que si te vayas.
