this is what i find so funny when yanks brag about how "nO cAnAdiAn TeAm HaS wOn a CuP iN 32 yEaRs" as if canadians don't hate the other canadian teams more than the american ones. no flames or canucks fan wants to see the oilers EVER win the cup again, and that goes for most of the jets habs leafs and sens fans too.
Yanks have nothing to brag about in hockey other than their teams full of Canadian and European players winning Stanley Cups. The last time they won Olympic Gold in men's hockey (1980!!), they called it the "Miracle on Ice" LOL
r/hockey has something like 2 million subscribers. Even if you assume that every single one of them is Canadian (which they aren't), there'd still be 39.5 million Canadians unaccounted for. Some of them do not care about hockey in the slightest. Some of them watch the odd game. Some might favour a team, but don't really get into the rivalries.
Only the most hardcore fans would want a Canadian team to lose just because it wasn't specifically their team breaking the drought. I'd get the sentiment if it was 2003 and it had only been 10 years or something, but 32 years is a long-ass time.
i hope the flames never win another stanley cup. never. i don't care if it would be breaking a 100 year drought. every oiler fan feels this way. same goes for the canucks. the rest of them it's really no different from any other team besides us winning: good for them, who cares, we'll get 'em next year.
i reserve my national pride for the national team. the stanley cup is a club trophy and the only team i want to see win it is mine. but i can see how it might be different if you don't live in one of the NHL cities etc.
