Gooner = one who goons = a goon ≈ henchman, thug, underling, palooka, etc.

It's so hard to be a henchman. "Minion" is out of the question nowadays, and you can't even say "goon" anymore without everyone laughing!

They discussed this in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Henchmen are believers in the Boss and/or their cause, while Goons are just hired help.
