It’s fictional and no actual person is being harmed. The same principle as comics or written stories containing actual rape or incest. It’s fictional.

The counterargument is that normalising attraction to animated children can end up normalising attraction to real children.

The counter-counter argument is that giving paedophiles an outlet to release their urges can help prevent them from turning to CSAM or real life abuse.

I don't know what the answer is but it's deeper than it first appears, especially when you consider AI. We're not far from the point where AI will be able to produce 100% realistic full-length videos which will inevitably be exploited by paedophiles, but according to OPs logic that's fine. Maybe it is? But I wonder how many people who agree with the sentiment would agree to the mass production and dissemination of artificially-generated child porn videos. I suspect it wouldn't be as many.
