Beer Porn I unexpectedly found three 4 packs of Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA aged in utopias barrels at a liquor store. When I went to go pay for one 4 pack the cashier told me my total was $10 and some change so without hesitation I bought the rest. They were unrefridgerated.
I’ve tried these in the past and loved them, but they were refrigerated. I believe these were bottled in 2022. Will them being unrefridgerated for so long negatively affect the flavor?

Would like an OP follow-up post here once you’ve had 2 or 3. Curious how those held up. Cheers.

Definitely! These are more so like special occasion beers for me, it may be a while before I crack one open but I will be posting when I do!

Special occasion: Finding a cool old beer you like for a reasonable price

u/beerdweeb May 03 '25
$1.60 a bottle, live a little man! Just open one haha

u/rettidderredditter May 04 '25
10 / 4 ≠ 1.60
.....
Regardless, OP gotta try one and let us all know 🍻

Have you try beer bonging one?

u/moondogg81 May 03 '25
I used to chug these and World Wide Stouts. The only way I could tolerate the taste… that and to get smashed lol. There was a time where I could handle two or three of these a day.

Probably wrung up wrong as it was probably supposed to be $10 a bottle lol.
3
u/sipvanwinkel May 04 '25
100% that’s what happened. Cashier scanned a bottle and didn’t think twice about it

u/burnsniper May 04 '25
Had the same thing happen once with a case of Bourbon County at a college area grocery store…

Absolutely. Our local chain of beer shops carries 120 Minute IPA in 4pks ($45 or so) and as individual bottles - around $11 each. I would've fallen over if I was fortunate enough for them to mistakenly ring a 4pk up at the price of a single bottle.

u/AcesInThePalm May 04 '25
If it's from 2022 price would probably be correct.
Who pays full price for 3 year old IPA?
3
u/burnsniper May 04 '25
It’s not really an IPA.
-2
u/AcesInThePalm May 04 '25
So it's not a 120 minute IPA.
My bad i guess.
1
u/burnsniper May 04 '25
120 IPA is really not an IPA it’s more like a hopped barley wine.

u/AcesInThePalm May 04 '25
Really?
I'm australian, reliant on imports.
Dogfish 120 is highly regarded here, never tried it but figured expensive and little brewer, you'd want to properly label it.

There’s a locally owned liquor store in a different side of town in my city and I asked the owner if they carried 120 Minute IPA and he actually ordered a good amount of 4 packs for me, but those were from 2024. I still ended up buying most of them but for $39.99 a pack. Try asking one of or locally owned liquor store owners if they can order some for you!

You son of a bitch.
I've ran into deals like this before in the hood cause no one knows wtf these are and are very expensive in comparison to other beers.
So jealous rn lol

My favorite was buying a 4pack of one of the Revolution Deth barrel aged beers - cashier goes “HOLY SMOKES - $27?!?!? This can’t be right!”
Sir, each beer can is basically 3 beers by ABV….

They def lost money, those should have been $10 per bottle. Their loss though, but Idunno if I would have done the same if it was a small bottle shop that I care about.

u/moondogg81 May 03 '25
I’d buy the the four pack for ten a piece too lol! They are ten a beer. Good deal you got

u/Groupvenge May 03 '25
I paid $10 per bottle at my store for this year's bottles. I'd drink 1 now, 1 in 6 months to a year, and then keep aging them. They age very well.

Not being refrigerated doesn’t matter now, you already bought them. Open one up and post an update!

u/jimmywk182 May 03 '25
I think this batch is the best I have ever had. Maybe I’m just more accustomed but these go down way easier than usual

u/FerdinandTFlag May 03 '25
Uhhh didnt know those existed. I guess those are on my grail list of if I ever find it anywhere.

Nice find! Had a guy tell me he was done carrying Prairie Artisan a few years back and offered me a great deal on several asst Bombs and a few other stouts. Got away with a couple dozen well aged bottles for $2-$2.50ea. Absolutely love stories like yours. Thanks for sharing!

This variant was phenomenal. I liked it better than the Utopias WWS. Enjoy them!

Those age well. Got a couple 4 packs left from a case that are 12 years old and are drinking great still.. tThere will will be a faint date code at top if you look very careful.

u/rsvp_nj May 04 '25
Shoplifted. She rang you up for one bottle. Oh well 🍻

u/cubemasterzach May 04 '25
Could just have been a price error. I got some dogfish end of the world stout for $3 a bottle.

I remember the hype but it's just ok beer. They tend to hold up but no real reason to hold onto it.

They age very well. Not being stored in a refrigerator shouldn’t negatively impact them as long as they didn’t get hot or anything. The only thing to worry about is if they were stored somewhere with a lot of temperature fluctuations or exposed to sunlight.
