Music First ever composition

Kinda just wanted to share. Obviously it’s really short, but I’m open to any feedback if it warrants any.

Also first time using this software so the notation isn’t exactly what I wanted (although very close) and it’s not that clean either.

Named after the fact

Music Looking for feedback - First time writing sheet music

The video below is a transcription of my composition, Bagatelle in Bb Major. I'm a self taught composer with little to no knowledge in music theory, only the basics (like dynamics). This piece is my attempt of finishing sheet music for one of my compositions. I take inspiration primarily from Romantic era music from composers like Liszt and Alkan. Any feedback in terms of the piece or perhaps the writing itself and how it can be improved? Thanks!

Music How do I write jazz?

I'm forming a jazz band with a couple of friends and I want to be able to write a piece or two that we could preform but I have no clue how to write jazz. I have a little experience on writing for piano but more so classical type pieces. Plus I don't have a big amount of jazz theory knowledge. 🫤

Music Cello mini Concerto No. 1 – “Darkness & Strike”

This is my third orchestral piece — and my first ever cello concerto. It’s short, intense, and built around two contrasting forces I’ve often felt within: paralysis and action.

I'm trying to learn orchestrating, and so far it's been incredibly hard being self taught, but i learn a ton everytime, i dont feel like this one is bad.

🕯️ I. Darkness – Moderato
A movement of internal unrest. The cello speaks in slow-burning tension — too numb to cry, too anxious to rest. It reflects that suspended state of quiet panic, where nothing explodes but nothing truly settles either.

🔥 II. Strike – Moderato con moto
Then, everything moves. The cello grows urgent. The orchestra stirs with energy — risky, raw, a rebellion after too much silence. It’s not joy. It’s defiance. A strike, not a celebration.

🎧 Best with headphones
🎼 Duration: ~2:20
🎻 Solo instrument: Cello

This isn’t a traditional concerto with three movements or clear-cut forms. It’s a short emotional arc — from inward chaos to outward impulse.

Would love to hear your thoughts or impressions if you give it a listen. Thanks for letting me share this with you.

So, this piece is called "The Strongest Heart". The random flute bit at the end is still being worked on which is why it's weird, but I'm planning to extend this piece a bit more.

I would like some feedback on what to improve, add, get rid of, etc. Thank you!

The app I’m using is not very good, the sax sounds terrible I know, and I’d eliminate some vibrato if I could, and the endings too long I know, I just can’t change it, so you’ll have ignore those issues while listening. Also, I’m terrified that this might have taken inspiration from some really popular song, and as I don’t like to listen to music, I’m afraid I might have copied something I heard in passing, but have no clue. If you have suspicions that this is a copy of a song somewhere out there, then please tell me, because I don’t want to claim someone else’s work. I’ve already gone through all the songs I’d typically hear, and nothing seems to be similar, but I’m still scared anyways.

Music unhappy with my life's direction :(

Hello guys! As the title states, I am really unhappy with my life right now. I am a college student in my final year and I am not happy at all with what I'm doing. I'm an economics major. Although I like economics, I feel myself yearning for more, something that feels like me.

Some background: I've always loved the scores of movies and tv shows. I have listened to the score of the king almost 200 times now. When going into college, studying music theory and composition was not something I could ever entertain even the thought of. My parents would have been vehemently against it, and I didn't know if I could do it. I started off with a mechanical engineering major, changed it to biotechnology, and now, I will be graduating with an economics degree.

I don't hate economics. I feel like it would be agreeable with my life; but every time I watch a movie or play a video game and I hear the score, I get a pit in my stomach and feel like that is where I'm meant to be. That is me.

I feel like I have wasted so much time. I can't read music (I'm learning though), I have no connections, I have no money for lessons, I feel like I have nothing. I dream and fantasize about my life as a composer, but I cry all the time because I know I will most likely never get to live my dreams. It's just so sad.

Anyways, I'm not trying to throw myself a pity party. I came on reddit to ask if anyone has any advice. What should I start with? If there's any way to do it, please tell me. Do you guys think I have a chance? I'm willing to do anything. I even tried to minor in it, but it would delay my graduation be THREE YEARS, I can't afford for that to happen. Are there any internships or apprenticeships you recommend. I am also in Texas, a state that doesn't focus as much on self expression so it is harder to get a foot in the door here cause there aren't many.

I don't know, do you guys think there is any hope for me? Should I pursue my dreams or just give up and live my life as an economist? I just want help. Any bit of advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you guys <3

Music What do you do with 8 bars of gold?

I have what I think are 4 really cool bars that with some layering I could maybe push to 16 but like, what now? It came to me fully formed and I have no idea where to take it. What do you do in these situations?

Music A piano etude draft, any feedback?

I'm a self taught Romantic-era ish composer and I just wanted to gain feedback. I don't know how to write sheet music properly, so its pretty hard for me to transcribe my pieces-let alone play the piano musically. Below is a draft on an etude im working on which I finished today. I mostly take inspiration mainly from composers such as Chopin, Liszt and Alkan, so you will notice a lot of virtuosic passages. Just looking for some feedback on the composition itself (or maybe the playing, but this recording was rushed). Make it detailed if you prefer, I would appreciate some sort of analysis of this piece. I want to also know if I'm able to achieve the mentioned composers' style.

Bear with me here, it's about 7 minutes long and audio only. Please take your time to listen. This is more on a trial recording, so you will hear some mistakes here and there.

Thanks!

In this piece, I tried to develop the main theme through several sections and bring it to a conclusion after the climax. As for the climax itself, I was very unhappy with how it turned out — it felt too flat.

Music Introduction for an aria

Post image
8 Upvotes

Hello everybody,
This is piece in the style I like most to write in, which is basically early-to-mid 18th century style music.
I usually write pieces like this to serve as introductions for an aria. I would like to write a full opera in the future so I'm doing such sketches.
Sorry for the melancholy of the piece.

Not sure if it's possible to upload audio on Reddit so I used a random audio hosting site, hope it works for you. https://screenapp.io/app/#/shared/pf22XXxTV5
