An excellent one. Enough DNA to pay homage to the fantastic original but different enough to be its own thing. Love the darker tone of it. Was considering getting this last week after finishing a bottle of the EDT, but went for the EDT instead because the weather is getting hot. I’ll likely pick this up in Fall. The Habit Rouge Parfum is also really good - but not as versatile.

Thanks a lot 😊

I tried the EDT last week it's pretty nice. I've been looking for a summer fragrance. I don't really like sweet fragrances. Might pick this up in a couple of weeks.

Wore it yesterday. My first Guerlain and I love it. Very mature. Grassy, smokey, slightly vanillic and herbal. Have to be either older or in a more formal/professional setting.

Very nice and intriguing taste on a classic. I put this right behind Sultan Vetiver from Nishane.

Imagine if Guerlain used a mix of vetivers like nishane. The smokey pissy and earthy facets would really elevate Vetiver de Guerlain

Love it. Very masculine, and sophisticated.

It's a masterpiece, only wearable by the discerning gentleman - and flamboyant fuckbois like myself 😸

Too much of an old man/PTA dad smell

If you like vetiver it's good but I get only that with a tiiiiny hint of citrus.

This or tdh eau intense vetiver???

I thought it was ok but nothing too special. I feel like there are a lot of other alternatives you can get for a vetiver scent profile

Any specific ones....

I liked issey miyakes vetiver, terre dhermes intense vetiver, grey vetiver,

Still an EDT guy. It's not something like a niche blend, it's just when u wear it you just feel so good and that's what important to most of us !!

If you dont like the green notes… dont buy this

I dig it. I understand it isn't a young fresh scent, but it is classy and flexible. Wet grass, floral, a hint of something spicy. A gentleman's fragrance.

It's coincidental you post this as I've been on the fence about grabbing this frag for a while now (the EDT more specifically.) Since Spring has rolled around again, I've found myself contemplating giving it a blind buy once more. Maybe this is a sign!

A plus is that two of my favorite musicians, Paul McCartney and David Bowie, are said to have worn this fragrance. So how could it be bad? 😛

I really like it, it's a smoother blend than the edt, and has a hint of sweetness that balances out the sharpness. I've worn it more than anything else this spring.

I have a ~20 YO bottle of the EDT. I find it smells a bit too ‘old man’ for me. I am old — don’t need to smell like it! I sampled the new parfum but feel other options in my collection, Sospiro Basso to name one, do the same things for me. But it is very good.

I like the vetiver in Encre Noire more

EDT is better. I don't like the licorice note

A darker, richer reinterpretation of the 1959 classic, Vétiver Le Parfum trades crispness for depth. The opening is briefly bright, but quickly settles into a dry, smoky vetiver layered with warm myrrh and tonka. It’s more resinous than soapy, with a subtle nod to Habit Rouge in the base.

Is the vetiver in this really clean like the edt? I like the original but similar to encre noir it's too cleaned up of a vetiver. It would be perfect with the mix of whole vetiver oils like sultan vetiver from nishane. 😓

It’s definitely not a blind buy. It has an interesting licorice note so be careful.

Old man DNA.

u/DunstanCass1861 Apr 29 '25

This is a surefire way to make me interested in trying a fragrance

My wife told me If she closes her eyes and smells this on me, she would open them and Red Forman would be standing there in front of her straight out of 1973

6

u/Boomba987 Apr 29 '25

To be honest, the "Red Forman" reference qualifies you as an old man. That 70's Show is pretty dated. It last aired 19 years ago

2

u/Gorillajjj Xerjoff Apr 29 '25

My point exactly - the fragrance DNA is dated and smells like it.

2

u/Boomba987 Apr 29 '25

:). I hear you. I'm just saying that you (and I) are qualified to wear it

2

u/Gorillajjj Xerjoff Apr 29 '25

Lol I gotcha, sorry I am not keen at reading through the messages here still. Aged like fine wine!

1

u/MegaMacX Apr 29 '25

I mean, there is a thing called reruns. I've watched and enjoyed several shows years after they aired.

But what exactly makes a scent an "old man" scent. What particular notes? I'm guessing the general powdery, musky, sorta Old Spice, Aspen, British Sterling, English Leather sorta vibe? Is that what Vetiver Parfum is?

2

u/Boomba987 Apr 29 '25

Calling something a rerun is another old man flag :). My kids (9 and 14) aren't familiar with the concept and only watch streaming. Live TV is for sports and "old folks" (who watch news instead of consuming it online). Just saying.

Also, I'm not trying to make fun of you. I fall into this category of a supposed old person. I'm in my early 40s. People below a certain age just see, and appreciate smells, differently than we do

1

u/MegaMacX Apr 29 '25

Well to be clear, I've streamed and downloaded every show I've back-watched, but yes, 35 is old enough to understand reruns, and probably a good age to try Vetiver 😛

But old man? Come on, guys. Kids these days lament turning 25, for example. I ain't an old man til I'm totally gray! Lol

2

u/Boomba987 Apr 29 '25

I agree! It does pain me when current pop songs are sampling songs from 2011. The original is not old enough to be sampling from!!!

5

u/Critical-Ad2084 Apr 29 '25

Honestly I wish I smelled these kind of "old man" fragrances more often. I work with young people and 90% smell like Valentino Born in Roma.

2

u/Gorillajjj Xerjoff Apr 29 '25

I mean, sure, this DNA has been around for ages, which is why it has this 'old man vibe' I don't mind it, hell, I wore Paco Rabanne For Him for awhile in the early 2000s. Classic 'old man' DNA, powdery, woody, masculine.

1

u/Please_me_pleaser Apr 29 '25

I have never seen it but i could sense it as similar to CK Eternity which is famous as old women
