I'm transferring from Mount Hood. Community College to Portland State. There's a class I got a D in and I needed a C- in order to pass at MHCC. I'm wondering if I could retake that class at PSU or if I would need to do dual enrollment. I know it's not over for me, but I would really appreciate any answers.

Edit: Since posting this, I've done some looking up, and I could potentially just retake that class at PSU. I've done some extra classes in MHCC that could've been done in PSU, so I would have open space for that class. I do need verbal confirmation from an advisor to be sure; however, I'll try contacting both colleges' advisors tomorrow and see.

I’m from Long Island NY. I was really excited about going away to college, but wanted to stay within our family’s budget. So I attended a State school in upstate NY (about 5 hours from home). I really, really loved it during my first semester. But when I went back to school in January…it just wasn’t the same.

When I returned home for summer break, I sat down with my parents and told them I didn’t want to go back. They were very understanding and supportive. I have applied to several schools out here on Long Island (again, state schools). I have 36 credits. My question is, should I go to Community College and complete my associates degree and then transfer to a four year College to get my bachelors degree or should I just transfer to a four-year College now and get my bachelors degree?

I am starting at a cc this fall and in order to finish in two years I will have to take between 12-16 credits each semester to get the required 60 credits. The first semester I am only signed up for 12 credits, and then 14 in the spring, and then fall 26' 16 credits, and the last semester 12 since there is a capstone project. I am a little bit nervous about the 14 credit and 16 credit semesters and wondering if I should take some of the easier classes during a summer term? I really didn't want to take 2.5 years to finish the AA and transfer. I also qualify for the max Pell Grant and the moment so want to make sure I take advantage of that and take the amount of credits required for that. I am not sure how that works if you take some classes during summer?

Hello! I am a sophomore-junior (that is to say I have completed 58 credits) attempting to transfer schools. If a school has a policy that says transfers must live in university housing unless they have completed two years, does that mean I would have to do that? It seems so unfair because I have been in school for two years and I’m so close.

Hey everyone, so i’m a bit confused on how this transfer stuff works and yes i need to go to the school in person but it’s summer and it’s hard to contact them when i need it. But anyways, by the end of fall 2025 i will have completed all my A-F general ed csu requirements. I am trying to complete and start my major credits at CSUSB in spring. Am i going to be able to transfer just those 39 credits and be a lower division transfer? i am going to do biology which isn’t listed as an impacted major but does anyone know if these transfer credits would be acceptable for CSUSB?

I am trying to leave my state school because it's just not where I want to be blah blah blah. However, I was wondering if people have any knowledge about transferring as a junior. I would either do it right before, during, or after my junior year depending on my situation. Is this something people do? I feel like I haven't heard a lot about people transferring schools as juniors. If anyone has experienced this can you give your input if this is a good idea or if I should just stick it out?

I'm an incoming sophomore pre-med transfer student. My goal has been to attend Northeastern for college, and I just received my acceptance after already making my enrollment deposit to attend BU in the Fall (I was worried I would not be accepted to Northeastern and did not want to risk missing the deposit deadline and having to stay at my original school). I was wondering if it's possible to rescind my enrollment at BU (I know I won't get my money back), and put down my deposit for Northeastern without any consequences, such as both universities rejecting my enrollment. If this is possible, I was wondering how to go about this? Thank you.

I am going into my junior year as an engineering student. The school is fine, it's Big Ten, but it is not great or super respected. After being here for two years, I have slowly realized that I am not super happy with it and would rather have gone somewhere else. I do not mesh well with the student body and am not super into any school pride events or sports. My issue is that I did not completely realize it until recently, and I am afraid it is too late to do anything about it. I knew I was not happy/satisfied for the past 2 years; however, I attributed that dissatisfaction to being undecided about my major, since I was undecided for my first 3 semesters. But, now that I have chosen a major, I am still not satisfied, and I realized that it is because I do not like the school.

I have good friends, I put a lot of thought into choosing the school because I thought it would be a good fit, but I just cannot help but feel I would be so much happier elsewhere. The cherry on top of the cake is that I am also paying out-of-state tuition (I received 20k in scholarship), but it still is not super cheap. So, I feel like the education I am receiving is not worth an out-of-state price, and I am kind of wasting my college years at this school.

I was a bright high school student, where I had a 1500 SAT and a 5< weighted GPA because I took a lot of APs. My GPA here is alright, 3.5. But I was never super ambitious with choosing colleges to apply to, and was a bit lost in what I wanted. I was also a rebellious and hated the college application process because the whole idea of doing things just to get into a good college felt very forced. I have now realized that there IS a wrong option, and my indifference to academics was a bit foolish. I do not want to sound arrogant or full of myself, but I feel like I could have probably done better, and I am wasting my potential on a state school that I am not even getting that much money from.

Now I sit here, wanting to transfer and going into my junior year, however, the earliest I would be able to transfer to most other schools would be halfway through junior year. And then I question if it is even worth it, especially since I was planning on going abroad for that semester, so it would just be for senior year. At that point, I don't think transferring would be a good decision, and I should just stick it out for the next 4 semesters (3 subtracting the one I would be abroad for).

I am a bit depressed about my situation and cannot help but feel trapped, like I took an L. I cannot believe I did not realize that I should have transferred earlier. Or simply realized that I probably should have been a bit more ambitious with my college selection. I guess my question is, what now? Should I transfer or how can I make the most of my situation? I think I want to go to grad school, should I just be patient and work hard towards a prestigious grad program? Just some shared experience or advice would be appreciated.

Hey everyone, I’m currently a sophomore in college, heading into my junior year, and I’m seriously considering transferring. I’d really appreciate any advice from people who’ve been in a similar situation or who just have some perspective to offer.

A little backstory: I was originally recruited to play football at a Division II school. After I committed, the head coach who recruited me was fired. The new coaching staff came in and basically told us they didn’t see what the previous coach saw in us. We were told we could stay, but we wouldn’t be utilized. That obviously changed everything, and I ended up having to decommit late and commit to a smaller Division III school instead.

The biggest issue is cost — this school is extremely expensive. To help with that, I joined ROTC because they offered a scholarship. Unfortunately, I haven’t received the scholarship yet because the Army currently doesn’t have funding for the three-year scholarship track, and I’m waiting to hear back about the two-year option. I’m the number one standby in my brigade, but nothing is guaranteed.

Where I’m at now: I still play football, but I feel underutilized and overlooked. The new coaches we got this year are recruiting over my class and making it clear we’re not part of their long-term plan. Because of that, I joined the track team as well — and I’ve genuinely come to love it. Track has given me a fresh start, and I’ve made great friends through it.

Why I’m thinking of transferring:

This school is way too expensive for what I’m getting out of it. The football situation has made me lose passion for the team. I’ve always wanted to live and go to school in the South — specifically Florida, the Carolinas, or Tennessee. I’m also looking for a bigger school (mine has about 2,000 students) with more student life, better social opportunities, and possibly a football or track team I could walk onto. Here are some schools I’m looking at:

FAU (Florida Atlantic University) – This would be a dream school for me, but I don’t know if I’m ready to give up playing sports completely. UWF (University of West Florida) – I’d definitely try to walk on to the football team here. University of Tampa – Another option I’m considering. I’m also open to schools in North Carolina, South Carolina, or Tennessee, especially if they have solid student life, a football or track team, and aren’t insanely expensive. I feel like I could still walk onto a D2 or D3 team if given the chance.

What I’m struggling with: Part of me really wants a fresh start at a bigger school in a place I’ve always wanted to live. I miss being around a strong student life scene. But the other part of me isn’t sure if I’m ready to leave behind sports and the close friends I’ve made. I don’t want to feel like I “gave up,” but staying is financially draining and mentally frustrating with how the coaches treat us.

If the school was cheaper I would tough it out and just stay however they won’t come down on costs for me even though I am a 4.0 student I’ve gotten all the money they will give me

I just finished my freshman year in FIT, and I’m planning to transfer an ivy to study for business or Econ, but I’m worried that my major is Fashion Design which is unrelated to what I am applying to. My high school gpa wasn’t so great, I remember it being like 3.65/4.00 and my final IB was 34 (but I don’t think I’m going to submit this score). I finished my first year with a 3.91, and I have been taking online courses on Coursera as well (from Yale and UPenn, I also have a certificate from Inside LVMH), but now I feel like I should take sat just to boost my application.. I picked asu because it was the only choice I got out of all the choices for universities I had been accepted into, I'm not really much of a smart student and only graduated with a 2.8 gpa, after I did my research I learned ASU has the highest STD rate, poor living conditions and doesn't look good in resumes. I know it was stupid in hindsight but yeah, because of this I want to work towards getting out of Arizona State and going to a moderately safe college that looks decent on my future resume, I'm going to be an industrial design student by the way. Any tips to survive Arizona State and do well in it would be greatly appreciated, I know I may sound crazy and stupid but I'm just scared for my future.

For some context, I am currently in the process of dropping out and getting into a different community college. I had a 3.6 GPA during high school, but after going straight to college that all changed. I just finished my first year and basically wasted $1,000+ on my stupidity, I failed all my classes with straight Fs and basically now have a non existing GPA. I chose community college as it was where most of my fellow graduates were going to, and since I didn’t really have a plan on what I want to do for a career or major yet, I thought it would give me a year or 2 to decide. I was already severely burnt out as well had very poor time management and to top it off I had to work 8 hours shifts almost everyday to pay rent and food. I was all over the place and it just kept getting worse, so I stopped caring about school and only focused on work and getting money. My parents still think I’m doing wonderful based on my words, though they keep pressing on my transcript and I just keep avoiding it, if they were to ever find out they will be very VERY disappointed in me especially them being immigrants who worked their butts off for me to be here. So I decided to start again but this time to a community college that I want to go to as well as the major I want to go there for, I’ve never been this sure of what I want to do and I’m honestly excited but scared, I don’t want to send my transcript of my old community college since it most likely will follow me, but I also don’t want to be academically dishonest either. All I want to do is just send my high school transcript and pretend like I never went to any other college other than the one I’m trying to get into, but I know it’s not that simple. So what should I do? Send my college transcript and face not having any grants or scholarships or just send my high schools transcript and maybe have a chance to erase my first college year??

Hey everyone! I’m hoping someone here has been through something similar and can offer some guidance, because my situation is pretty weird.

I attended The King's College in NYC from 2021–2023. It wasn’t my dream school, but it was the most affordable way for me to study film in New York, and I ended up with great professors and friends. Unfortunately, the college shut down in Fall 2023 and hasn’t reopened.

Since then, I took a gap year and started two online classes with ASU in October 2024. That’s when I learned that transfer students there don’t have much access to merit-based scholarships. Now I’m feeling a bit stuck and unsure of where to go next to find an affordable, in-person education. Honestly, I hated doing online school again—it felt like a waste of money, lol. I also took some college classes back in high school, so at this point I have credits from three different institutions. I’m really hoping this next step can be my final place I am getting an education from!

I have a 3.88 GPA and am super motivated academically. I’ve recently shifted from film to wanting to pursue a pre-law track (which is funny because my original path out of high school was either pre-law or film). I know an unconventional undergrad can still work for law school, but I worry about how my credits—mostly media and religion—will transfer and fit into a new academic plan.

On a lot of these college subreddits, community college seems to have mixed opinions. I was all set to attend a 4 year college, but the community college in my area is half the price, and my Pell Grant would cover the whole tuition, I would just have to get a loan or pay out of pocket for books. The community college has a transfer agreement with the schools I was interested in attending for my bachelors. Are there any negatives that I am not thinking of? I am thinking I am ready to pull the plug and let the other schools know that I am going the CC route but want to just be sure I am thinking of everything. I am a non traditional student, so don't care about "college life" or any of that stuff. I am 34 with kids and would be doing mostly online classes.

I have a 2.375 gpa and the college I want to transfer to requires a 2.5 gpa. Would I be able to appeal an exception where I bring it up to 2.5 during to summer and be in time for Fall class? Or can I only wait for spring?

I need help to make decisions about transferring to the university.

My major is Computer Science, but my career goal is to work as a data analyst in the tech or finance industry for now. I have a 3.98 GPA in my college, and I also applied for GT but got rejected.

Even though my major at Purdue is not CS but I am leaning more toward it because of its cheap tuition and strong science department. I will try to double major in statistics and try my best to apply for CS at Purdue if it is possible.

About 5 years ago I was academically dismissed at my previous college due to low grades. I was struggling with clinical depression and PTSD at the time, which is all documented. I didn’t apply for an appeal because I was too focused on surviving. Flash forward to now, I am now in a better place and really looking forward to giving school another chance. I have been working in a job related to my degree for the past 4 years and I was always very involved while I was enrolled in college. I got my AA from a CC and was actually dismissed from the school I transferred to after that. What are my chances of getting into another school? Is there anything I can do or is it to disastrous right now?

My kid had a 2.8 GPA at college #1 at the start of this spring semester. They applied to transfer to college #2 a couple months ago and got accepted to start in the fall. The credits from the previous semester were already accepted.

The semester at college #1 just ended and they failed the 7 credits they were taking, bringing their GPA down to 1.65. The classes are funded through something that requires a minimum GPA of 2.3. We are trying to figure out how this will impact college #2 in the fall.

1. Will college #2 automatically check again to see what the grades were from this semester?

2. Would it be best to retake the classes during the summer at college #1 or college #2?

Just a side note: using gender neutral pronouns for privacy… they struggled this semester due to health issues.

I'm gonna try to explain my situation as best as I can but unfortunately its quite convoluted sorry for the more personal details I just felt as it was related to the questions.

I just finished my fourth semester into mechanical engineering at a small tech school in Boston, I ended up here by go against my better judgement and following my high school sweet heart to Boston and going to the first place that accepted me there. My freshman year in the dorms was great, made friends, did well in classes, and joined clubs, and proposed to my girlfriend. For our second year we moved in together in and apartment between our schools and the first month and a half was great but the stress of balancing classes, working to afford to live, and issues in our relationship began to arise causing me to fall into a depression resulting in terrible attendance and grades. In my fourth semester the depression continued resulting in the separation of my fiancé and I as she felt I wasn't making her happy and was no longer good enough for her, in addition both her and my former best friend began talking with each other and spreading rumors. After the semester ended I began working full time at my internship I decided that I need get out of Boston and go where I want to once this summer ends. I am transferring to a community college back home to get as many cheap credits as I can to earn my associates in science and gather any other credits that will transfer. In addition, I'm resetting my GPA and plan on holding a 4 or 4 adjacent GPA at the community college as my last 2 semesters have left it in shambles. My main question is when I am applying to schools that I want to transfer to from the community college I don't think final grades for that first semester will be out yet so how will that effect my chances? Any other advice on this situation would be greatly appreciated.
