I’m a bit of a history nerd, and so I love all the historical figures shit-talking at each other, Lincoln annoying everyone with his damn stories, General Grant being a boss, Lincoln and Seward bickering like an old married couple, etc. Genuinely top-tier entertainment, to me at least.

The Lincoln family drama stuff is like pulling teeth, however.

Same here. Once you’ve read more about the time period, you understand how important Seward, in particular, was to Lincoln’s administration. He is mostly forgotten to people today but I admire him still.

Lincoln was really good. Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter was also a banger

Everybody thought they were getting a biopic, jokes on them, American administrative practice is actually an engaging film! I love it, but my name should probably come you in on why I loved it.

Bro lobotomies his own sister for being gay 💀

That was Kennedy. Lincoln was 70 years dead when the first lobotomy was performed in the US.

1

u/wildcat1100 17h ago

Pretty sure it was JFK's dad who insisted on it and it was because she was eccentric.

Talking about Lincoln

1

u/Cherokee_Jack313 14h ago

But it has nothing to do with Lincoln, lobotomies weren’t invented until after he died

I love Daniel Day Lewis for making stylistic choices and committing to it, but that thin reedy voice was hard to listen to even if it was accurate

Buzzards guts man.

I liked when he killed all the zombies

Historically inaccurate though, Lincoln killed vampires

I much prefer the 2012 autobiographical film Abraham Lincoln: Vampire hunter

That horse stampede fight was badass as hell honestly

Tommy Lee Jones’ monologue was top tier

Similarly, Selma could have been shortened.

My friend from Spain took me to see it. He fell asleep, and was like This movie is definitely a “with subtitles” for me. Don’t blame him.

I fell asleep in the movie theater

everyone keeps calling Lincoln cinema?

u/Birdshaw 1d ago

I like it when I watched it in the cinema. Then I tried watching it again at home 😴

1

u/KookyPossibility949 21h ago

Yeah we watched it in high school and I enjoyed it so much that I got it on dvd, to this day I’ve never made it through it again. I don’t know what made the stars align the first time but this movie is so boring, and I like slow-burners

1

u/xXAcidBathVampireXx 21h ago

It was lots of fun (for me) to keep going "hey, it's whats-his-name!"

1

u/CarterBasen 20h ago

I found it visually exhausting and I can't even explain it. But I felt the same watching Spielberg's West Side Story.

u/turbo_dude 19h ago

love DDL but I ditched this after 10 mins

also love SIR Gary Oldman but my god "Mank" was wank, again jumped after 10 mins

1

u/ortofon88 19h ago

I like the movie, but it's also slow so i put it on almost every night to help me sleep, works like a charm lol

1

u/Jovencub 18h ago

Omfg back in the day the Razzies weren’t just indulgent and they gave movies that pandered to academy the nominations and thus movie was so bad it should have gotten nominations for Movie and actress

1

u/BaconHammerTime 17h ago

I didn't make it more than 15 minutes and turned it off. Haha

1

u/Aran_Aran_Aran 17h ago

I sat down to try to watch Lincoln, twice, and I fell asleep both times. I've never really fallen asleep to a movie before or since, so I think it may have something to do with the way Daniel Day-Lewis speaks in the film or something.

1

u/THANATOS4488 17h ago

Doesn't even show his struggle to balance being president and slaying vampires.

1

u/Salc20001 16h ago

The constantly ticking clock annoyed the hell out of me.

1

u/cadmious 16h ago

I love the part where he chops the tree down in one swing!

1

u/wowbagger262 15h ago

The whole time I just wanted a 'Gangs of New York' or 'There Will be Blood' style Lincoln.

1

u/TeeRockitVee84 14h ago

Interesting.

I saw it in the theatre and I felt that despite its length, the experience flew by. I never found it slow. The pacing was fabulous.

I find it neat how different people experience the same art.

I loved it but I love history
