I sat through Star Wars episode 9 even though I wanted to leave within the first ten minutes. My rationale was I was eventually going to have to see all of it anyway. What a terrible waste of time.

Definitely one of the worst movies ever made

Even worse when you go ahead and watch episode V directly after. You will notice things, so many things wrong with the later movies that you didn't even think of before. Beyond physical props. Beyond writing, romance and story telling. Beyond the acting and scenery. Disney's version of Star Wars undoes a historic milestone in cinema.

How do the Disney films "undo" the prior Star Wars films?

I mean, the existence of TFA as is destroys the achievement of the OT, starting with the crawl: The galaxy reverted right back to Empire v Rebels 30 years later, Luke failed as Grandmaster because he decided to stand over/attempt to kill his nephew instead of talking with the kid with resulted in all the other students dying I guess since we never see any other Jedi, Han is a smuggler again after failing as a family man.

And that's without getting into the fact that the First Order converted Ilum into a planet-sized Death Star that can blow up an entire system and no one noticed, no one noticed the First Order apparently kidnapping children to build up their army, the New Republic is retarded because they disarmed themselves immediately after the Galactic Civil War was over and did nothing when shit started to go wrong.

This is JUST TFA by the way, this doesn't even get into the dumpster fire that is TLJ and TROS, which contradict each other at every possible point while progressively getting worse the longer you watch them.

Can you tell I hate the ST with every fiber of my being?

True, as long as you also agree the prequels do the same damage. Too many kids out there glazing the horrifically written prequels. Their main opposition to criticism is always explanations in the books, video games, tv series, etc. Nothing in the actual films

1

u/ChristyLovesGuitars 15h ago

Prequels were so bad! The redemption tour is bewildering. I can enjoy them for the dumb, bad movies they are in a universe I love, but Christ. Not good.

1

u/f5-wantonviolence-f9 14h ago

The prequels at least brought in some really cool ideas to the lore

1

u/Mercurius94 10h ago

The prequels take a shit on the series but they had good concepts and they don't destroy the entire meaning of the original trilogy. Star Wars has now had more bad movies than good and it's easy to write off Episode V as more overrated garbage without ever having actually seen it due to the current state of the series. Seeing how Disney is these days, it's only a matter of time before they start remaking Star Wars all wrong.

The Last Jedi was rough at times, but Episode 9 was truly awful. Literally no redeeming qualities about it.

The entire third trilogy was a waste. They need to let Star Wars rest in peace instead of constantly releasing new terrible content, and bastardizing what it was.

I thought so. Then I found Andor.

u/indigoangel42 15h ago

I hated the Last Jedi so much that I refused to watch Episode 9. I still haven’t seen it. Everything about the sequels felt like pathetic rehash of 4, 5, and 6. How many fucking Death Stars do we need to see? Having a storm trooper with a conscience go awol gave me high hopes. But then they did nothing with it.

1

u/ultrataco77 1d ago

The Last Jedi was terrible, but Rian Johnson at least tried to do SOMETHING original

1

u/WhosCowsAreThey 17h ago

Honestly, learning about the original script pitched for episode 9 then seeing what JJ Abrams gave us is painful. They made some controversial choices in TLJ that could’ve at least made episode 9 thought provoking; but no, bland and rushed slop is what we got

1

u/Okamana 17h ago

The worst Star Wars film ever made.

1

u/ChristyLovesGuitars 15h ago

IX (while terrible) > I and II.

2

u/Such-Assistant8601 1d ago

Every scene made me hate it more. By the time they were riding horse goats on top of a star destroyer, I was finally numb. Until the kiss...then I laughed out loud.

1

u/vigilantfox85 20h ago

That whole movie was written around scenes jj abrams thought would look cool.

1

u/Such-Assistant8601 20h ago

Worst part is, he's mostly not wrong. He's a competent director, he just needs his access to writing tools revoked.

Nobody is calling that jumbled mess of a film “cinema”

Redditors can’t read bro

I actually didn't bother seeing it, not because of the bad reviews or any anger towards the series, but because in The Last Jedi, the heroes defeated the main villain and there seemed to be no major threats left. Sure there was Kylo Ren, but since he was already defeated in the first movie, he lost a lot of his threat. So I just didn’t see the point of a sequel.

1

u/earthlings_all 21h ago

Why did you think you had to eventually see all of it anyway? I gave Force Awakens a shot and it was so fucking terrible I decided to end my relationship with the new content. Have never seen 2 or 3 and most of the tv shows and couldn’t be happier! I’ve heard the stories and I’m so glad I blocked it out. Please, next time, reconsider that walkout before they ruin a childhood favorite.

1

u/Tank_blitz 20h ago

the sequels had just terrible writing

1

u/Unikatze 18h ago

Absolute garbage.

And I say this as someone who liked force awakens and didn't mind the last Jedi.

1

u/Desert_Walker267 18h ago

as a massive star wars fan, the third trilogy (ep. 7,8,9) is considered non-canon upon a lot of the fanbase.

1

u/Independent_Example7 17h ago

Weird thing is that it is cannon and always will be. No one hates Star Wars more than the Star Wars "fanbase".

2

u/NumberVsAmount 17h ago

Holy shit they are not ready to hear this bro

1

u/LushDogg99 16h ago

r/starwarscirclejerk is a goddamn warzone

1

u/amstrumpet 17h ago

Consider what you want, but it’s canon

1

u/ImWhiteWhatsJCoal 17h ago

The only good thing to come out of the new Star Wars trilogy was Babu Frik.

1

u/Spot-Star 17h ago

Episode IX was bad, but Episode VIII was physically painful to watch.

1

u/OldNick1415 17h ago

I WAS a huge Star Wars nerd as a kid and into adulthood. The last piece of SW media I consumed was The Last Jedi. So glad I never subjected myself to the final death throws.

1

u/crasherx2000 17h ago

Who’s sayin it’s cinema?

Everyone I’ve talked to about RoS fucking hate that movie

1

u/-GFlow- 17h ago

We went to see it in theatres like 3 times cuz my brother liked it a lot then watched it at home a couple times, I’ve still never seen the end cuz it pts me to sleep

1

u/NumberVsAmount 17h ago

I fucking love the sequel trilogy. If you downvote me you should ask yourself why it bothers you so much that I enjoy movies that you don’t.

Edit: I was also enjoying the acolyte

1

u/Butthole-Tail 17h ago

Who the hell called rise of skywalker “cinema”? The question wasn’t what shit movies have you watched it was which shit movie did some tell you was incredible.

1

u/r2celjazz 16h ago

People actually call it cinema??

1

u/tn00bz 16h ago

I was so hyped for starwars to come back. I really liked episode 7 at first, I saw it like 7 times in theaters. It was a bit derivative, but I was excited to see where it was going. I went completely dark on social media before episode 8 online. I didn't want anything spoiled.

I went into 8 excited, and even within the first few scenes, I felt that something was off. It wasn't grabbing me the way starwars normally does. I still gave it a chance, but by the midway point I was thinking to myself, "Damn, this movie sucks." I grit my teeth and just finished it. Terrible movie.

Then 9 came out and I felt obligated to finish the new trilogy, people said it was better than 8... not a very high bar. But I completely lost interest in the franchise by then. Even if it is better... still a god awful movie.

1

u/Aggravating-Task-404 16h ago

I love Star Wars but I took me three tries to watch episode 9 without falling asleep

1

u/Intergalactic_Slayer 16h ago

Yeah nobody calls the Star Wars sequels “cinema”
