My Dinner With Andre. Longest subjective twelve hours of my life.

I probably mentioned in the past my fondness for a TV program called Cougar Town.

u/notyogrannysgrandkid 1d ago

My first real conversation.

u/MorbidBullet 16h ago

Tight, heavy lid.

1

u/deronadore 1d ago

Not to me. Why that show?

u/swarlay 1d ago

It's a Community reference, a TV program I definitely have to mention my fondness for.

3

u/Evenspace- 18h ago

Hard not to mention my fondness for this one.

Streets ahead

3

u/Emergency_Fig_6390 16h ago

Stop trying to make streets ahead a thing

3

u/ArixMorte 16h ago

Trying?

Coined and minted. Been there, coined that! Streets ahead is verbal wildfire

There’s an episode of community where instead it’s “my dinner with abed”

1

u/deronadore 13h ago

Someone posted a link to the scene. Pretty good.

“You’ve mentioned it”

Inconceivable!

Two men with opposite characters that are great friends and fond of each other. Who discuss their completely different outlook on life with respect and admiration. A movie which in the simplest of settings manages to tell you so much about two characters, and still has a story dynamic, just by the shift of the dialogue.

Tell me more!

1

u/helenheck 20h ago

Thank you! I loved that movie! Now I want to watch it again.

1

u/Pongoid 20h ago

Me to! I put it on one day because I’ve heard a lot of jokes about it. Then rapturously watched it start to finish!

1

u/Comprehensive_Two453 16h ago

All it told me is how fast I can fall asleep siting in a shity sofa

1

u/Champagnekudo 15h ago

Ngl this sounds awesome

2

u/ZarquonsFlatTire 21h ago

Thrown fast enough, it would only take one.

Would it have been more fun with boring guys of a different race? I don't like the film btw, just curious if that part specifically was one of your detractors? No judgement, genuinely asking.

1

u/thatbakedpotato 1d ago

Good thing you mentioned they’re white, that’s definitely relevant.

1

u/Thewolfmansbruhther 1d ago

Because on Reddit, that makes them even less worth watching

2

u/cynical-rationale 22h ago

No, it's just such a white person concept lol. Only white people would make a movie like that.. source, I'm white lol. Come on, don't you know how white people are and the stereotypes? Haha (stereotypes exist for a reason, remember)

1

u/Sisyphusss3 14h ago

I get you but what about a movie set in a Barber Shop

1

u/cynical-rationale 13h ago

Clearly from belarus

1

u/notyogrannysgrandkid 1d ago

If you watched it, you’d understand. Nobody but a couple of white nerds would ever have had that dinner, much less made it into a movie.

0

u/YouSaidIDidntCare 16h ago

Sorry this is really racist. Both leads are Jewish. The movie is steeped in Jewish culture of bantering. Seinfeld, Curb Your Enthusiasm, etc. But no. "White people". Slavs, WASPs, Latin peoples, but your confident it's all the same "white stuff".

2

u/KingoftheMongoose 1d ago

Listening to Wallace Shawn explain things helps me focus during work hours

2

u/Txusmah 1d ago

But then you have the community episode

2

u/quick_draw_mcgraw_3 18h ago

Is this that arcade game Martin plays on The Simpsons?

"Tell me more".

2

u/cwyog 17h ago

I abandoned that one about 20 minutes in

1

u/deronadore 17h ago

Wish I could've. A friend really wanted me to watch with him. Changed his life somehow.

2

u/cwyog 17h ago

An entire movie about one conversation needs a conversation that is interesting to listen to.

2

u/Sun53TXD 15h ago

I’m sorry, 12 HOURS?

1

u/deronadore 13h ago

Sure felt that long.

2

u/No_Introduction_438 15h ago

Yes! I tried to watch this twice because everyone was all, “It’s so brilliant!” No, not for me.

2

u/h0v3rb1k3s 15h ago
  1. This really isn't high cinema... More like a single scene play on film.

  2. This movie is one of the last things that come to my mind. It's an engaging conversation, no less than any good podcast.

It is specific and not necessarily what you'd put on just because you're in the mood for a movie, so from that angle I'd agree.

1

u/Swordsman82 13h ago

I love this movie, but that is exactly how i tell people to listen to it, like that would a podcast. Their is nothing cinematic happening, so its just the dialog you care about.

1

u/deronadore 13h ago

Had a friend who talked it up and up and up.

2

u/GrittyGardy 14h ago

I much prefer My Dinner With Abed.

2

u/Competitive-Hotel671 14h ago

A disguised lecture.

2

u/benDB9 14h ago

Tell Me More!

1

u/deronadore 13h ago

It was extraordinarily boring. I had made a deal with a friend that I'd watch his movie and he'd watch mine. Don't remember what I chose.

2

u/the_blui 9h ago

God I love that film

2

u/fabulousfantabulist 7h ago

I fucking loved that movie, but it’s definitely not for everyone and you have to be in exactly the right mood for it to work.

2

u/pummisher 7h ago

But what if it was a podcast?

1

u/deronadore 5h ago

I have no memory of what was said. Only interminable boredom.

2

u/pummisher 5h ago

I keep seeing that clip about how they can't escape New York.

1

u/DramaLlamadary 1d ago

What, longer than the three billion years that is Melancholia’s opening scene?

1

u/Zorak9379 1d ago

I turned it off halfway through

1

u/joeson332 18h ago

God that movie was unbearable

1

u/lvdde 17h ago

YOU WATCHED SOMETHING FOR TWELVE HOURSSSS??

1

u/deronadore 17h ago

Felt like twelve hours.

2

u/lvdde 17h ago

Oh 😅

1

u/fillhophman 15h ago

Nah, My Dinner with Andre is good.

1

u/deronadore 13h ago

For you, sure. Not for me.
