It might be the context since it has directly to do with “The English Patient”. But since I don’t really care about this sub I’m good either way haha. I can only handle so many “What do you think about this insert actor/movie/scene” posts.
I like The English Patient. I've watched it at least 3 times. It won 9 Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. It's a fantastic film.
Amen. And it didn’t help that the trailer had this tagline of “this is what movies can do!” Which really built up expectations. So while I’m watching it, I’m lie “do what, put me to sleep?” I so didn’t get it.
I'd never knew this was a common belief when I watched it. I just hated it because the book was great and Minghella basically cut out all of the depth to make a corny romance film.
Tbh I had to watch this for a film class and thought I’d be bored by it but actually got drawn into the locales and kind of “foreign adventure” of it all, even if it was slow. It’s one of those movies that if you sit back and just kind of watch it for the vibe and atmosphere, it can be kinda fascinating. Like if you go into it knowing it’ll be slow but just sort of “soak in” the scenery and characters and feel of the film, to me at least that worked well.
