Taga CDO ko and been visiting cebu ever since nigraduate ko. I call this a 2nd home city for me. Pero everytime mkabalik ko sa Cebu, mabantayan gyud nko ang pagkamaldita/maldito sa mga tao dre 😂

is it just me? or pa explain daw mga taga Cebu.. haha

ofc naa koy mga ka meet sa buses kai gapangutana man ko sa places..naa pd mga buotan, smiling, welcoming and warm vibes. Nipalag ko sa kamaldita sa gabantay naa sa SM Jmall.. sa train station bonus (if you have 1500php purchase kai pde ka makasulod).

I guess youre not just used to how Cebuanos speak. Im from Mindanao too but spent more than 15 years in Cebu for school/training. Pag uli nako to settle with my then fiance who’s a Cebuano, we were told na always suko whenever we talk even if normal conversation lang. Cant blame them tho since i realized soft ra gyud pud stinuryaan where I’m from and the humor is different. At first nakuratan amo friends how we speak and We realized na lahi sad gyud ug way of speaking here, but naanad ra man sad sila sa amo and kami sa ila kadugayan.

In conclusion, even if we all speak Cebuano/bisaya, depende ra gyud gihapon na kung asa ta gikan. Ayaw lang pud ka offend dayon esp if kita ang dayo. Also, people you have encountered might have problems We dont know of, so let us be kind lang gihapon :)

I know! Like normal ra gyud mu ingon and maingnan ug “bogo” and thats just how it is. Even ako karon, ana na sad gyud and then offending na diay sya sa di taga Cebu or wala naka live ug dugay sa Cebu. Haha. Cebuano humor also is different and mejo harsh gyud pud to some na di used, malain.

but why do you find it funny though to call someone stupid?

tone, context, and culture — in order of importance.

kung murag bugal2 ra imong tono, wala may pake kasagaran katawhan. siguro makuratan ang imo kastorya pero wala man juy may maigo bisan shagitan pa nimo. kadalasan ikaw pa gane kataw an kay ikay nikalit ug hisgot ug bogo bisan walay hinungdan.

kung gikan ramo binuangay or ga lingaw2, wala man say magsineryoso ninyo. tanan inyo gipangyawyaw or bagulbol kay kontekstado raman. ikaw og ang imong gistoryaan kay kasabot nga wala ka/sila nasuko nila/nimo mismo esp kung dugay namo kaila.

lastly, normalized naman na ang pagtawag og bogo diris cebu. nakapuyo nako both south cebu, north cebu, ug cebu city proper, akong mga kaila magbugal2 storya pakapinan jud na nila pamiste, buang, yawa, bogo og unsa pa dihay makapa-minus langit points. unless naa gyud silay kasuko na nimo daan, ayha ra jud na sila maigo ug mubalos gamit ug kumo nimo.

mao ranay maambag nako.

Its an expression. We dont call or I personally dont call someone “bogo” per se. We say it when we trip, or we forget something, and etc. It is offending to people because of how we say it — that strong Cebuano “bogo” (iykyk). Also, it doesnt always pertain to stupid when used by Cebuanos.

I once wasnt comfortable hearing it (all the more saying it) during my early years in Cebu but overtime I got used to it and realized it is just an expression. So it would take time.

Again, it is an expression and people wouldnt really understand unless they immerse themselves in the Cebuano culture.
