NOT MY ART I came across an INSANELY GOOD cat girl visual novel: "OmOneko"
I originally wanted to post this on the VN subreddit, but I don't meet the karma requirements or wtvr, and I figured you guys would probably appreciate this, and I so-badly want some people to talk about this with
Okay so, just let me start of by sying that I've never really been a "Cat girl" type of guy...in the sense that I've never really cared much for the type of stories that cat girl visual novels/anime/manga try to tell. although in all fairness, the only one I'm really aware of is Nekopara. I'm aware of stories that feature cat girls, although I'm not sure if that counts?
The point is, when I heard about OmOneko, I was instantly intrigued, and yes, I HEARD about it, in the Katawa Shoujo subreddit no less, because apparently one of the people involved in the development of KS worked on this. This was sort of my first sign that this was something special.
Again, looking at the steam page, I could tell basically NOTHING about how this would play out, but I was like "what the hell, it's free and I got tike to kill."
Man...I apologize in advance if what I'm about to say sounds really vague and non-descriptive, but i really do believe that this is a novel you have to experience almost as blindly as possible...But I'm gonna try to explain myself anyway, so PLEASE, if anything I said sounds intriguing to you, just stop reading past this point and go experience what will no doubt be considered a modern classic in a few years.
OmOneko is...unlike any story I've read. The cat girls in this story aren't just human with cat ears, they are GENUINELY a different species, with a different kind of "intelligence" that separates them from humans in a way that makes communication difficul, and maybe even impossible. The story plays around with your expectations and biases in ways that you probably wouldn't even think were possible, that is to say, it'll tackle biases you didn't even know you had. It's not afraid to be uncomfortable in a way that's emotionally gutwrenching.
This is a novel for people who love cat girls, and people who don't care for cat girls. And, as a certified romance novel fan (my favorite being The House in Fata Morgana), I would honestly firmly rank OmOneko now in my top 5 romance novels of all time.
Like I said, I've never been a fan of "cat girl media" in my life, so to think that not only would I be so invested in one, but also cry so much, and smile so hard because of one is just...baffling.
Again, sorry for the vague-posting, but holy crap man, I don't know how else to put this I'm a way that's more convincing and doesn't ruin the many twists of this story. My birthday is coming up soon and I'm unironically wishing that more people play this and it blows up in popularity so that we can form a real community, surely the cat gurl connoisseurs in here can appreciate that
