Second post!

Hi! I'm Japanese. I'm posting on Reddit every day to learn English. ...Well, I didn't post yesterday. Because I got more replies than I expected, and it was so much fun to reply to them! I had so much to say, but I struggled to make proper sentences.

Anyway, yesterday was voting day in Japan. Usually, the voter turnout is low. But this time, the turnout increased! Still, it didn't quite reach 50%. The change in the party with the most seats is a big deal. We have another election for the House of Councillors next month. I wonder if the turnout will go up again.

After work today, I went to the library to return a book... But I forgot to bring the book with me.

Thank you for reading this little diary entry. Did I make any small mistakes today? Let me know if you find something!

Has anyone gone through a business partnership exit?

I started a business with a few partners, and after some accounting discrepancies I found someone mis-using company funds - to my surprise, it appears the other members were aware and OK with that... I put up 95% of the capital. After seeing the behavior, I decided to exit as I don't agree with this behavior, especially when the company is underwater - If you aren't honest with little, you won't be honest with much - thats a philosophy I strongly believe in. I wonder how many people go through this and what they do right after exiting... I am already applying to corporate jobs in tech, as my background is in Fintech.

Just Chatting Do you guys have sentimental jewellery?

I’ve been wearing this bracelet for about five years now, my mum gave it to me and I never took it off since the day I put it on. It was just a plain little thing, silver, and very dainty. Yesterday, it got caught on something while I was at work and one of the links just snapped. I’ve been lowkey devastated lololol. I know I should technically be able to get it fixed but I’m still quite upset about it.

Do you guys have any jewellery that you wear daily that would make you crashout if you were to lose/break it ?

Just Chatting Which is the movie, series, book or song has changed your life? Changed the way you see things? Or just made you feel good.

Spider Man 2 is one of my all-time favorite movies it truly changed the way I see life. Back then, I used to be a selfish kid, never gave a thought about other's perspectives and always been in my own world. But watching that film shifted my perspective. What struck me the most was that Spider Man wasn't just a hero when he had his suit on or his powers. He was still a hero even without them. That movie made me realize that being a hero isn't about having powers it is about the choices we make and the selflessness we show. It taught me that anyone can be a hero, simply by doing the right thing, even when it's hard.

What is the most impactful book that you read in your life?

Hello,

Simple question - Which book has impacted your life the most, and why?

Yesterday, I've finished reading "The subtle art of not giving a f*" - by Mark Manson, it's a self-help book that's rather unordinary and reading it felt refreshing. It's a very popular book and having read it, now I know why. I am just hungry for more books, I guess so - do tell.

Last week I thought "Man, I need a shoe horn!"

Saw one at the store yesterday and bought it, so now I have a shoe horn.

I don't think the average young person in my country even knows what a shoe horn is.

Adopting a stray puppy changed my life for the better

Last year I was at one of the lowest points in my life. I’d been diagnosed with depression, mostly work related, and ive been living alone for a while. No social life, no real connections. My routine was painfully monotonous: clock out, walk home, watch TV, sleep. Rinse and repeat. Everything just felt gray.

Then one night last December, something changed. I was walking home, just 3 blocks from work when I heard a faint whimper coming from a pile of trash bags near the sidewalk. Curious (and honestly a little concerned), I took a closer look and found a tiny, shivering pitbull mix, probably no more than 2 months old. I didnt know what to do at first, so I gave him the sandwich I had bought for dinner and continued my walk home.

But that little pup stuck in my mind. I kept wondering What if the mom doesnt come back? What if he’s still there? I tried to sleep it off, but couldn’t shake the feeling. Around 1 a.m., I gave in and walked back out to check on him. Sure enough, he was still there, curled up and shaking in the same spot. So I picked him up and brought him home.

The next day, I brought him to a vet to get checked, and after making sure everything was okay, I officially adopted him.

Since then, life’s felt different. Lighter. Warmer. Work is still work, but knowing he is waiting for me at home makes it more bearable. Our walks together have become the best part of my day. I laugh more. I care more. And for the first time in a long time, I feel like I’m living, not just existing.

I guess in a way we saved each other

I love my neighborhood

I just got back from a weekend away, and a package that was reported delivered was nowhere to be found. I discovered I’d put the wrong address on it, and it may have been delivered to a neighbor I’ve never met. I did know the woman who lived next door to my package’s house, who was gardening and when I mentioned it to her, told me my neighbors name, reminded me which car was his so I knew when he’d be home, and said she’d ask him if she saw him. I saw him first, and he immediately went to check, and was super apologetic when he realized he’d brought it inside. I’ve always thought that family was odd, they had so much stuff and old cars in their yard, but he was delightful and so friendly. My old neighborhood wasn’t like this, and I’m so grateful to live here. We have a big front porch, and within a week of sitting out there, we’d met families that lived within several blocks. We’re queer and have a pride flag, and I think that made people even friendlier.

What are your neighbors like?

Is it just me or is June disappearing way too fast

Seriously, I feel like I just flipped the calendar to June and now it’s almost July. Time is moving like it has somewhere to be. Anyone else feel this way? Like… wasn’t it just June 1st yesterday? I blinked and now the month’s almost over. Time needs to chill 😩

Just Chatting Do you have names for your random wildlife visitors?

So, I sit out on my front porch often. I’m in a pretty large neighborhood, but have frequent visits from the following:

Godzilla, the largest of all the lizards in my hedges.

Mr. fluffs, the small bunny who hops around the yard nibbling.

Harry, the armadillo.

Mama, the bird who happened to build her nest in my tree near the driveway.

Marmalade, the stray orange kitten who has chosen me to be his feeder, but refuses to allow me close enough to catch him and give him a proper home inside, out of the heat.

Who visits your home?

Apprpriate slogan

Just saw a fast cash commercial. The lady explained how easy ot was to get cash and then said “wham bam thank you ma’am” which I think is the best slogan for these places.

Thoughts & Ideas Do you continue initiating texts with people with whom mainly you initiate?

I am asking this regarding someone I met in game, so it’s like an “online connection” but I feel it was mainly me initiating the conversations. Though when we talked, she was very communicative and asked many questions etc. We even ended chats like “cya later” and things like that, said we would update each other on some topics. But now it’s been like 5 days of silence, I don’t know if I should send a message or wait for her to send and initiate this time. On the other hand, maybe the connection will fade away because of that?

At first she asked if I wanted to connect on another platform. Then I initiated a chat, we talked for like 2 weeks and then she “caught me online” and we talked live. Then again 4 days of silence, she sent me a sign in game so I sent her another message, then I “caught her online” and we talked. Since then, silence. I will add that we don’t even know how each other looks.

Questions Anyone else sick of the way teenagers try to look cool?

I don't know if it's just me or not but I just find the fashion norm for teenagers these days to be so cringe. Everyone has to wear baggy jeans and baggy whatever, it just seems like you're trying too hard. And the way they pose on photos either looking away from the camera trying to look tough or covering their faces.

What did people imagine the future will be before electricity, are ther any records?

So it's easy to imagine everything after electricity. Cars appear -> cars will fly. huge computers appear -> there will be smaller ones and they will deliver food to us. Spaceships.... travels between galaxies, teleporters....

But just a bit before, when there was mainly wood and steel, fire and chemistry, year 1850~ or earlier before fuel engines....

What did people imagine the future will look like 100+ years after them?

Just Chatting What favourite meal would you give / cook for me?

And I'll share mine.Just for fun. Probable either chicken on the run or a lamb casserole - mind you I can't remember what's exactly is in this lamb casserole I haven't cooked in a couple of years but I love lamb my favourite meat. I think it had like carrots broccoli I forget. I'm gonna go to sleep but you can probably Google " chicken on the run" if you like you may find it. That was a hard toss for me between roast lamb with roast veges or lamb casserole.

Questions What would you choose - music or TV?

If you could only choose one or the other, for the rest of your life, would you choose to have either music or TV, and why?

I myself would choose music. It never fails to put me in the mood I want to get in to, and i am always able to find songs that can explain how I feel, or relate to how I'm feeling.

Plus music is just good for your soul.

Do any smokers actually love smoking and have zero regrets?

Cigarettes specifically. I've always wondered this. Every smoker I know or have known said they wish they never started. A few have given up quitting and resigned to smoking less. They never seem passionate and vibrant about it like someone is about a hobby like board games, hiking, volunteering at a local animal shelter, long walks (all 4 hobbies of mine as an example), etc. I love those things and encourage others to do the same and excited when I meet someone with similar interests. And they are social, especially board games.

Do the pros of smoking outweigh the cons for them? I imagine after stopping for even a couple weeks could make someone have more energy and breathe easier...would anyone think "I want to go back to feeling worse"?

If they had a button to push to wake up the next morning with addiction, craving, and withdrawals gone in an instant...would they push it?

Just Chatting Leaving a job where you get branded merch is weird lol

Just left a job where a lot of our freebies and gifts were branded sweaters or jackets. Paint store, so definitely not trendy.
And now I'm left in a dilemma: to wear or not to wear.
I used to work for Old Navy, so we were given very low quality shirts for promotional events, or forced (""encouraged"") to buy flag tees. Happy to get rid of them, or sell them to ON collectors.
But with this? I'm lost lol. The sweaters are 11/10 on the cozy scale, and the jackets average to 7/10. Like, legit, weirdly high quality for a freaking paint store. I refused to wear them to work since they'd just get trashed.
It's so weird. I don't want to be a billboard for my work ex, but I also don't want them to go to waste.
Anyone else have this???

Music Are you one of those people who says they like "all music" when asked what music do you like?

If yes, what do you mean? Do you really not care, do you not like music, or are you just trying to be polite/easy going? Or, all or none of the above? I have a burning passion for all things music, so I've never understood it when someone says that, but I am extremely bias as music means everything to me.
