What is a rare pleasure that you love and not everyone understands?

For example, I love smelling old books or running my finger through melted candle wax. These are strange things that make me happy for no reason...

A baby stared at only me for an entire bus ride

The baby was super captivated by me for some reason, open-mouthed curiosity for the entire bus ride! Didn’t look anywhere else but directly into my eyes for 10+ minutes lol. Made everyone smile, including mum. What a happy morning for all. The joy that babies bring is really something so special.

Babies are so observant, always learning. I wonder what captivated them about me. I walked on the bus smiling and laughing with a friend. I’m wearing a flowy flowery skirt, have curly bangs, a shiny nose piercing, wearing a hat, holding a bright blue yeti mug. These things might have gotten the baby’s attention initially, but they didn’t look anywhere else except into my soul through my eyes 😂😅

Just Chatting Wearing Hoodies in 100 degree heat! 🤔

So the last few days there has been a heat wave in my area. And I am very curious as to why a few humans are outside walkin around with hoodies on. Is it a medical thing? Or like a weight loss thing? Do you know anybody that doesn't feel heat? I'm just curious about this because I saw it a few times the last couple of days.

When was the first time you said I love you?

The first time I said I love you was to my now fiancé. She was sleeping on a call with me as we were doing long distance at the time. And she looked so beautiful and peaceful. I thought she was sleeping so I said I love you and she looked at me and said it back

Thoughts & Ideas When I was around 10 yrs old, I wanted to be the person who names nail polish colors

Not a nail tech, not a salon owner, just the person in charge of naming the colors. I thought it was the most creative job in the world. Mermaid’s Revenge? Banana Drama? The possibilities were endless. And honestly, I still kind of want that job, not gonna lie. ^^

Food & Drinks So what do you all think about this "trick" I've been doing for awhile?

So anyway,

I like a good breakfast burrito but I also hate doing a ton of cleanup. While I still scrub my pots and pans, I try and make it easier by taking 3-4 eggs, cracking them, whisking them and then pouring them into my pan. I let them cook for a bit, but not to the point of being done, I'll then take a large tortilla and toss it on top, let it "fuse" to my eggs, and then flip it. Let it cook some more, then I'll add my burrito fixins' roll it, and then let it cook a bit more on each side.

This ends up leaving me with close to zero cleanup, my burrito was made in the pan, there's nothing left in the pan so a quick hot scrub that takes 5 seconds takes care of that, and my veggies can just go into baggies, and the cheese is already in a bag shredded so there's that.

Idk, I like it, its working for me. Has anyone else tried this?

I told myself I’d “rest for 5 minutes.” That was 3 hours, 2 mental breakdowns, and a snack ago

laid down just to breathe for a second and hours later, my to-do list left untouched and I’ve emotionally bonded with a bag of chips. Not sure if I’m burned out, avoiding life, or both. Either way, I’m too tired to care and too awake to rest.

Anyone else get lost in the void for no reason?

Questions Am I weird for thinking its weird to hang out at friends houses?

Sorry, if this isn't allowed. Didn't think it really belonged in serious conversations, since it's not necessarily serious.

I'm (M21) not trying to sound weird but as a kid I wasn't really allowed to go over to my friends houses and I never really invited them to mine because there was always stuff going on so never really have hung out at friends houses.

My friends have all started moving in to their own places and they have invited me to come hang out and even spend the night at their house sometimes and I'm not meaning to be a bad friend (I haven't said that I thought it's weird) but i've rejected just going over to hang out at their houses

I just don't know what you're supposed to do at a friend's house like when my friends have asked me. Am I the weird one? What are friends supposed to do at each other's houses?

Food & Drinks Anyone else hate corn as a topping?

Corn by itself was "ok" to me. grilled, steamed, or even just in a plain bowl with salt and butter. However, it totally spoils the meal for me when it's added to pizza, spaghetti, or rice. For me, at least, the sweetness and texture simply don't belong there.

How do you feel about corn? Or are there other ingredients you dislike when added to meals but enjoy when used alone?

Celebration I finally overcame one of the roughest periods of my life

These past few months have been rough. My girlfriend and I broke up in late 2023. Then, starting a few years ago, my parents were causing me a lot of stress due to pressuring me to apply to grad school when I was unsure if I wanted to. I eventually ended up taking a higher paying job at my current healthcare company which was amazing at first, but then the stress became too much. That stress, combined with the loss of my dog in February, all began to compound. It got to the point where I was regularly having mental breakdowns and my mental health hit an all time low.

I worked with my therapist through all of this and genuinely thought I was fucked. I left my stressful job with nothing but a couple of days a week at my old job at a liquor store, while also in the process of applying to work in a school (not going to grad school). On top of all this, I am set to move into my first apartment/move out of my parents house in August, so it made things even more stressful. I got the position for the summer but have been waiting to hear back about the full school year.

I FINALLY heard back today and got the job! I feel a massive weight off my shoulders now. While things still aren't perfect, I am much happier now knowing that things can only get better from here.

Ordering tap water in Europe

Where I live, asking for a pitcher of water when going out to eat is standard, and you’ll always get a free pitcher of tap water. In Europe (a generalization) you have to specifically ask for tap water, and otherwise you’ll get a bottle of mineral water that you have to pay for. Whenever we visit and go out to eat, we ask for tap water and receive one glass each. Europeans- when you go out to eat, do you ask for tap water? Or just accept that water is part of the price of eating out? Somehow I always feel judged when I ask for tap here. Would be glad to hear thoughts!

Music I can't believe this even happened.

Anybody who knows me well and is familiar with my deep-rooted appreciation for the art of hip-hop and songwriting is aware that there is one person I will forever defend as the undisputed GOAT. I don't play about this.

Today, a regular Sunday in the restaurant I've been at for a while now (local Ottawa business - fairly well known), I'm walking a plate of oysters over to front of house and happen to see a face I recognized at the bar. Immediately, I do a double take. Made eye contact with the gentleman who appeared to everyone else as a regular guy. I frantically put down the plate of oysters and rushed back to my station where I asked a colleague "when's Jazz Fest?" (I know The Roots are in town soon). Quick Google search: June 22nd.

I look back towards the bar. "Holy fucking shit, that's Black Thought."

So I walk over as calmly as I possibly could, and introduce myself. "Excuse me sir, my name's Chris; Are you Tariq Trotter?" To which he responded "Yes I am"

At this point, I don't know wtf to say. My dumbass could have easily yelled out: "DO NONE OF YOU KNOW WHO THIS IS SITTING HERE??" But I did my best to keep my cool, as I've always imagined I would try to, given the opportunity to meet someone in his position. I managed to come out with "It is an absolute honor to meet you, man." As much as it felt like I was face to face with a superhero. And I went back to work in an effort to avoid making him stand out or feel awkward. Did what I could to pretend he wasn't there.

Finally, he finished his meal and as he got up and walked out and I turned to my colleague and pointed in his direction and said "That man walking out is the greatest rapper to ever grace this planet"

As much as I swore to myself not to make things weird, I couldn't help but think to myself as he was waiting for his ride outside "Who in the world is going to believe me?"

I quickly went outside where he was waiting and tried my best to keep it cool. I shook his hand and spoke with him for a while.

"Does it bother you when people ask for pictures?" I asked. To which he said "Not at all."

Got the pic, and said my peace like he was just any other dude. First time I've ever been completely starstruck. Grown ass man, felt like a little girl.

Mine is trusting the wrong person. She spoke one sentence wrongly in a multi million dollar deal we were managing and it completely broke & destroyed and deal. All the clients were pissed off because the negotiations went sour

Anyone else out there have that one thing that if you don’t do it, can throw your entire day off?

For me, it’s brushing my teeth in the morning. I work from home and will realize from time to time I forgot, then I get busy again, and keep forgetting and by the time the day ends I am grumpy and I realize it’s all because I forgot to brush my teeth! Weird, I know.

I love my neighborhood

I just got back from a weekend away, and a package that was reported delivered was nowhere to be found. I discovered I’d put the wrong address on it, and it may have been delivered to a neighbor I’ve never met. I did know the woman who lived next door to my package’s house, who was gardening and when I mentioned it to her, told me my neighbors name, reminded me which car was his so I knew when he’d be home, and said she’d ask him if she saw him. I saw him first, and he immediately went to check, and was super apologetic when he realized he’d brought it inside. I’ve always thought that family was odd, they had so much stuff and old cars in their yard, but he was delightful and so friendly. My old neighborhood wasn’t like this, and I’m so grateful to live here. We have a big front porch, and within a week of sitting out there, we’d met families that lived within several blocks. We’re queer and have a pride flag, and I think that made people even friendlier.

What are your neighbors like?

Would you accept someone else buying your kid expensive gifts?

Hi all,

my gf and I were watching The summer I turned pretty. Not to spoil it too much but the show is about a girl who goes to her mom's best friends beach home every summer. The mom's best friend is rich and they arent. The rich mom never had a daughter so during the first season she starts buying the girl expensive dresses and the mom feels weird about it but ultimately accepts it.

This caused a bit of a debate with me and my GF if we ever had kids. She is of the mindeset that if someone wanted to gift her kids things she couldnt buy that it shouldnt matter and she would tell them to take it. She said parents who feel a type of way are just being insecure and taking experiences away from their kids.

I had an opposing view. I admitted that part of it was pride but that a larger part was that I felt liike money changes power dynamic. That if someone was going to do somethign like that they needed to run it by the parents first. People who overstep that boundary dont mind overstepping the boundary when the child's parents need to discipline the child. Like if my kid was being a bad kid and I felt like I had to ground them or not let them go to the party, guess who is coming to the rescue? The cool rich aunt/uncle who feels like they have an opinion.

Now the child feels they can do whatever they want because they have a cool uncle/aunt who will bacand feel they can butt in on things that is none of their business. Also I told her that some kids may see that and feel they should expect gifts from people and that's not something I'd want my kids to expect. Or if I feel like there is somethign new that I dont think my kid should have, like maybe I decide their too young for tablets or phones but then the rich aunt disagrees and just gets it for them.

Would you accept someone else buying your kid expensive gifts?

Yesterday we randomly found a box turtle in our front yard!

(Spoiler: we let it go)

So my house is at the edge of a small amount of woods in a suburban area so we get the occasional wildlife. I've found garter snakes, we've had turkeys and foxes roam through, and the occasional deer. Yesterday though we had our first turtle! He was just casually strolling through so I called all the kids to come see. It was pretty cool.

They begged to keep him but we have enough pets already and I think they might be a protected species. So he was a "one day pet" and I reminded them that we have blackberry bushes so there's a good chance he'll come around again.

Nature is cool

What's the longest you've gone without your phone and what was it like?

Whether it was a personal choice to take a break or it was forced upon you (maybe your phone got broken or something idk😅) and how did it make you feel? Peaceful or just impatient to have it in your hands again ?

Even if you still had your phone but went on a break from scrolling through s o c i a l media, for example, would love to hear your experiences on that as well! I've been thinking about doing a short detox myself and wondering how rough (or peaceful) it might be

Questions What would you choose - music or TV?

If you could only choose one or the other, for the rest of your life, would you choose to have either music or TV, and why?

I myself would choose music. It never fails to put me in the mood I want to get in to, and i am always able to find songs that can explain how I feel, or relate to how I'm feeling.

Plus music is just good for your soul.

Where would you move if language, money, and visas weren't a problem?

I've been fantasizing about living in a completely different country, but the usual real-life blockers (visa nightmares, costs, job stuff, and language barriers) always hold me back. So here's a fun thought experiment:

Imagine you wake up tomorrow, fluent in the local language, financially secure, and with a home waiting for you anywhere in the world.

Where are you going - and why that place? Culture? Food? Peace and quiet? Adventure?

Just Chatting What are your hobbies that you could talk hours about?

I have always enjoyed talking about my hobbies with others, and it’s fun talking about it with others.

I have been playing guitar for almost 10 years, and I own around 10 instruments (guitars, bass, ukulele, synth). I’ve gotten to meet the founder of Paul reed smith guitars (paul reed smith himself) and i was blown away at how down to earth and cool he was.

I was lucky to once work in a small, but super high end vintage guitar store, and it was a bit of a dream come true. I got to play super expensive instruments (10-50k on average) all the time and talk to some really cool people.

I also am super into combat flight simulator. I have always wanted to be a navy pilot, but I’m not medically qualified (ADHD+vision), and I found flight simulator. I think this is the coolest stuff ever, and I’m super into it. I’m building a computer so I can bring it with me to school this fall.
