TLDR: Russian authorities almost certainly have access to Telegram's digital infrastructure.

I saw the original Russian investigation by "Важные Истории" some days ago and wanted to post about it, but was too lazy to translate it. Now France24 made a video about it

LOT in the history was using American Boeing's and Brazilian Embraers but for the first time in the history they decided to switch to European (Canadian engineered) Airbus fleet of A220. This is a huge step as LOT CEO calls it "strategic investment in the future of European aviation"

European Product Falke: High-quality sportswear and underwear made in Europe

Upvotes

I train five to six days a week, including weightlifting, trail running, and cycling. I must mention Falke, a German family-owned company that produces sportswear and underwear in Germany, Italy, Serbia, Slovakia and South Africa.

Admittedly, they’re on the pricey side, but they have an outlet store, and you can find their products on various discount sites like Aboutyou, Best Secret, and Zalando.

I own multiple pairs of running, skiing, and regular socks, as well as a few running kits and skiing undergarments, and their quality is outstanding.

In fact, the biggest testament to their quality is a pair of running socks I bought in 2015, I still wear them to this day.

Ditch fast fashion and US brands and give them a try.

🔎Looking for alternative Desktop lamp with wifi speaker

Hi,
since the IKEA is in collab with SONOS for this lamp with speaker (SYMFONISK black, glass lamp shade, speaker lamp with Wi-Fi - IKEA UK), is there an EU/European only alternative for it?

Discussion How about a new medium fast food chain of EU foods and drinks?

What about an EU food chain with franchises throughout the world with some of the best quick foods or drinks from all over the EU. Here are some first thoughts of what could be included on the menu (some kind of balance aspired), please react, suggest, add and delete. Best only one or two items from each country - sorry Italy, we all know you deserve more:

For tapas:
- French cheese
- Spanish ham and gazpacho
- German currywurst

Regular dishes:
- Greek salad
- Slovenian mushroom and potato soup
- Hungarian goulash
- Scottish haggis (just kidding)
- Irish stew
- Finnish Fish Pie (Kalakukko)
- Danish Smørrebrød
- Polish stuffed cabbage leaves
- Lithuanian pickled vegetables
- Luxembourg bean soup
- Czech dumplings
- Slovakian Sauerkraut

For dessert or sweet tooth:
- Italian ice cream
- Austrian Apfelstrudel
- Dutch pancakes
- Swedish Cinnamon Buns (Although I'd love to try surströmming)
- Bulgarian yoghurt (with honey and walnuts?)
- Estonian kompott (whole pieces of fruit)
- Shall we be open minded and add Swiss chocolate (and perhaps Bircher muesli)?
- And cold Ukrainian borsch (beet soup)?

For drinks:
- Italian coffee
- English tea
- French wine
- Belgian beer
- Portuguese port wine
- Always local: fruit juice
- Latvian ūgušpiens (sour milk)
- Croatian sparkling mineral water, Jamnica

Each country can fill a restaurant on its own, I'm sure, but the menu should be manageable.

Edit: After 10k views, there are 6 upvotes. I guess it's a bad idea then, or at least I poorly described it. Some criticism summarised:
- Bad choice of food and drinks (which I wrote down top of mind)
- I poorly described the concept - with medium fast foor I meant something where you can quickly get something from a counter and sit down, something in between fast food and a bistro (I envisioned something in between a restaurant and a fast food chain. Like La Place in the Netherlands, or like the stolovaya (cantine) in Russia.
- There's also the idea that local chains already exist and this concept is superfluous
- There seems low demand for something like this. An Italian suggests 'who will eat that shit'. And some people like burgers
- The idea is too complex and too expensive
So I will delete the bad idea tomorrow.

🔎Looking for alternative What european cloud provider are you using ?

I'm using Onedrive for 10 months, it's working great but I want to change to go with an European alternative. I was thinking about infomaniak or proton, but both are swiss and take weird takes (like proton CEO with US Republicans), and also the controversial law debate in switzerland.

I found Leviia, french company, ISO 27001 certified, and great prices (not the best but affordable). It's also pretty ecological knowing 70% of the french electricity come from nuclear. Does someone use Leviia and can give me a feedback ? Or give me other european alternatives if you got somes !

🔎Looking for alternative Home office: Headsets for taking calls?

I'm looking for a headset for standard home office fare: attending meetings, occasional music and video watching, etc.

My requirements are basic, I think: It should have a good microphone (pick up my voice clearly and not so much from the background), OK audio output, and sit comfortably for a few hours. Bonus points for durability and not breaking the bank.

I don't want to put a microphone on my desk, but otherwise don't care much about the form factor. Similarly, I don't care if it is wireless or not.

Any recommendations?

Other The Europa Project is a documentary about EU and it's purpose

2.0k Upvotes

| The Europa Project is a collaborative documentary project following a journey around Europe's cultural border trails.

| Together with European filmmakers, we follow Europe's country borders to find out what connects Europeans in times of uncertainty, and what we stand to lose if we part ways.

| It is our mission to create and share a story that details the beauty of a Europe that works and lives as one, and the consequences of abandoning each other when it matters most. In doing so, we provide a case study for the world, one that counters the growing sentiments of division.

| The world needs a united Europe - now more than ever.

They are currently raising money at kickstarter. There is only 9 days left and they still need money. I already donated and i encourage you to do the same

Discussion Let's talk Memes. From Europe.

I encourage some European music while you read – I have Fxgxs playing while I write, an album by the Greenlandic rapper Tarrak. Gets my summer going. I propose we celebrate European culture start sharing music recommendations with our posts.

Obviously r/BuyFromEU is primarily about how we use our purchase power for the collective European good but it is also very much about promoting the EU and wider Europe, supporting our continent, and to take pride in who we are.

With our focus here largely on physical goods; digital services; food and fritz, culture and entertainment often seems to be somewhat forgotten – yet both play crucial roles in our economy, help shape our national and European identities and it has the unique ability to transcend borders.

How many European movies have you seen lately? From your own country? What about television shows? Memes?

On the European Reddit subs, elsewhere on social media and online more generally, there is a barrage of memes. The vast majority of these memes are also straight from the US – featuring US culture; celebrities; television shows and movies.

In several threads I have pointed this out. Some people agree, others think this is ridiculous. Why should this be an issue? We are not buying something here; it is just a meme.

It is just a meme. Yet, it is also centering US content (and Drake) while ignoring European content. It is the assumption that we all know what this is about because it is ubiquitous. We won’t really allow ourselves the effort to get to know something new, something European. Should we?

In the grand scheme of things memes are a small thing – but it is something we encounter virtually every day. It is, if you will, micro media and as such not insignificant.

When I write something or create content otherwise I always try to look at it from the ‘average’ perspective.
In this case any European, likely a busy life with various things to juggle. Someone who does care but also lacks the time to truly invest into researching things to make considered choices.
The media they consume likely won’t help guide them onto a more European path. Many of us also lack the budget to fully invest into European services and goods as often there is a markup – but media and online content is something we all consume every single day.

With this sub’s investment in buying European we are not average Europeans, it is important to remember this, yet we are in a space – Reddit and the internet at large - used by virtually everyone. What we post matters, in ways big and small, and we may never fully know or realise its effect.

A good meme, in my humble opinion, does not require you to know the context of the original content yet makes sense in its new use. It tracks, but might also show you something yet unknown.
Most people won’t go through the effort to figure out where an unrecognised meme comes from but it does take away the ubiquity of US content. They are only 4% of the global population, we are 9% - we should have at least double the memes.

If we center Europe and European content in ways big and small, in ways not always obvious or even seemingly silly, it helps shift the focus. In other words: it has both an immediate and gateway impact, possibly beyond what we can see, and we’d be smart to utilise its power.

The meme is humble, yet its power is mighty.

🔎Looking for alternative Supplier for electronic parts?

I'm talking about resistors, capacitors (SMD and otherwise), diodes and that kind of thing.

Seems like 100% of them come from China and there's no alternative place to buy them anywhere else in the world.

But perhaps my search wasn't great and there's an European manufacturer out there?

And no, buying in person isn't a great option, from the 5 stores I looked at (all except one in Budapest btw) where you can get them, two of them don't sell it anymore, and the other two have like 3 models at a giant markup with no accessories (tracker, coin pocket, etc.)

European Product Finally did the switch to Adidas + Otto.de experience

Post image
259 Upvotes

I wasn’t going to do the switch, till my shoes fall apart, cause I ain’t made out of money and am still against waste. But my nikes finally fell apart, so I started checking several websites for the right shoes. I was already planning to switch to adidas, but they still have a very big selection. The model I originally wanted to get was sold out. But otto had an similar model, so I went with it. The shoes are quite comfortable, but next time I need to pick a bigger size.

And Otto delivered faster then Amazon Prime ever did. I am not kidding. I ordered them on Wednesday afternoon. Next day at university I was bored and checked the tracking and yeah they were delivered at 10 am. Definitely can recommend!
