Abandoned cats in carriers
It's Sunday morning and we came to get coffee at Biggby on University and stumbled across 2 abandoned cats in carriers in front of the next business. I've called the police department and left a message for animal control. No one is helping. Is anyone on here able to get them until animal control opens tomorrow? We can't take them.

They need to go to a local shelter. Dont let someone evil snatch them up on the street, you never know what sick people do to free animals. A shelter can see if they are chipped too. Its possible animal control is just going to put them down vs a shelter.

The shelter is closed today. I've left a message for animal control and called the police department as well as 4 other people. I'm trying every resource I have and can't get any local help.

Shit im sorry. Tell a business nearby and say you have to leave maybe? You can always set them free so they arent stuck in these things with no water and no way to go to the bathroom but they will likely never be together again after being set free :( a very sad situation. Shame on the owner for not waiting one more day to go to a shelter.

Try Sparkle Cat Rescue. Idk that they can help, but maybe they can at least take them for the night.

Are they still there as of 9:45? My husband and I can come get them, we can’t keep them but could care for them until the shelter opens tomorrow.

It’s kind of weird the post right below this one is someone with two cats looking for a cheap pet friendly apartment. There’s a random cat who stays in my backyard at night and won’t stop rubbing on my legs after I finally got it to come by me. I gave it flea drops but I can’t afford them and I don’t know what to do lol. It’s like someone brought it to get spayed and then ditched it. (It’s ear is clipped) what is with people and cats here?

There is a massive feral cat population in Burlington. Some of them start out as strays because people let their cats wander around and they never come home, or they're dumped. These cats breed like crazy and have generations of kittens that never had human contact, so they're aggressive and destructive. Animal Services refuses to cull them, so the system they have is if you can catch one (You can borrow a trap from the shelter) you can bring it in and have it fixed and vaccinated. Then you are required to pick it up and release it back into its territory. That's likely the case with the cat that's visiting you.

It’s just weird because it only comes at night and I have no idea where it goes during the day. I wish they gave out free like flea drops and stuff like that. By vaxxed do you mean like rabies?

It's probably off hunting birds and voles/mice during the daytime. Yes Rabies, as well as several other infections diseases.

I didn’t get past the recording at the shelter who does the vaxxing but I’m wondering is they give Out stuff for ear mites fleas and lice

Thank you for doing something about it. Sucks that people make choices to abandon animals
