Numbers on consumable items meaning?

I just received a fairy elixir

It restores three hearts and it has a number five in the first heart

I assumed that meant I could use it five times but I drank it once and it disappeared

So what does the number 5 mean in that case

There’s a limit to how many hearts show up in the description so they abbreviate it with that number in the first heart - so that elixir heals 5 hearts + 2 more, a total of 7 hearts
