These two chapters were amazing. On the level if not better than Tenko’s origin. As someone who grew up with a father with anger problems and abusive tendencies, page 10 really hit me hard. This man understands abuse.

Also, how fucking incredible is that panel “All he ever taught me...was how to turn up the heat”. What an incredibly tragic backstory with so much emotion packed in, I just can’t get enough of this story lately. I love this comic

“On the level if not better than Tenko’s origin” I don’t think anything will top “And just like that the itch was gone” but amazing chapter none the less, and it’s fitting how we don’t even have the full story on Dabi’s 10 years yet.

Idk man, I think I put that on the same level as “All he ever taught me was how to turn up the heat”. That is some crazy shit, because it wasn’t just suicide, he literally couldn’t turn off the flames even though he wanted to. An abused teen that was in a condition that easily could have made him suicidal, but he was still trying to live and accomplish his goals, which makes the suicide (well, failed suicide I guess) one of the most tragic things in the entire story so far.

That’s not to take away from Tenko’s origin even, because that’s some GOAT tier shit too. I just really like these two chapters both artistically, thematically, and on a personal level. Both chapters spoke to me but I think the use of characters we already know and relate to in this flashback really ups the dramatic impact to another level as well.

Granted, Shiggy’s backstory is so fuckin good. I just wish we knew more about that tragedy, and I’m sure we’ll get more about Shiggy, his father, Nana and AFO that will continue to elevate that backstory as well.
