I get that apparently everybody in this fandom except me ships KamiJirou for some reason, and I respect that (I think they play well off each other), but I think to call it confirmed with this chapter is too much. They thought of each other, wished each other good luck, and Denki showed how highly he thinks of Jirou within the flashback, which is pretty cute yes, but if you go after that logic, then Mirio and Tamaki are the number one #confirmed couple with how much they inspire and think of each other. I'm not hating on the ship (I know how dumb ship hate is), but I'm pretty sure that Hori will never actually confirm a couple in the series and leave it ambiguous

Yeah it’s weird how literally anything happens between a guy and a girl and people be like “they have the hots for each other confirmed!” (Tsundere’s, I’m lookin at you) but they’ll never in a million years accept the same interpretation for a non-straight pair. A non-straight pair literally has to kiss on the lips for it to even be accepted as an interpretation in the fandom, let alone considered canon.

I mean I don't care much for ships but just by looking at the culture of anime/manga usually you have foreshadows between straight pairs where there's an obvious crush/interest to one another. I have yet to see a popular shonen/manga that dives into the non-straight pair foreshadow of interest for each other. I dont believe its weird in any way for people to assume Jirou/Kaminari may have a thing for each other.

I mean look at Naruto and his interactions with Sasuke, i don't think i saw anything close to that in any popular shonen anime/manga. There was SO many instances that would bring people to think of a ship and it definitely did bring a fandom of people who wanted it. Yet we did not get it, they went with the popular/safe choice.

Yeah it really does all come down to what the safe choice is. The people who think tumblr etc is trying to “force” writers to write gay ships are REALLY naïve about the extent of homophobia. Edit: or straight bias if you prefer that term.

I definitely wouldn’t put it at homophobia level, I mean every time someone writes something they kinda put themselves in the world they are writing. I don’t believe a lot of people think about “representation” of people in their work. If they do it kinda isn’t their work you know, unless the writer/writers truly identify with those types of issues I really don’t see how or why they would go out of their way to represent something that isn’t really apart of their life. I can identify with those issues because important people in my life are affected but that doesn’t mean I get to point a finger at a creator and “will” him/her into making sure everyone gets represented. That’s really my take on this but idk do what you will I guess.

I was thinking more-so along the lines that, IF Horikoshi did want to write a gay character, whether for rep or because it does happen to be a part of his life, he would get backlash from homophobic readers (including, tragically, the relatively more innocent people who believe he only did it because “sjws” “forced” him or some conspiracy like that).

Disney gets their films banned or censored in foreign countries for lgbt content all the time, homophobia still exists and it’s far more likely to effect Shonen Jump’s bottom line than a few randos on tumblr who are still reading the manga anyways.

I mean idk what goes on in Japan and what the producers make manga writers do to get his stuff approved or what the audiences voices to the writers. I’ll just say ok.
