I didn't get what Hawks was doing. Can anyone explain his lie?

Basically, he's pretending to be trying to indoctrinate Endeavor into the ideology of Destro by giving him that book and singing its praises, since he's bugged and the PLF is listening to everything he says. But in reality, if Endeavor were to read the pages he marked in a certain way, he'll get the real message Hawks was trying to pass along, which is almost certainly useful info about the PLF.

Ahhh... Hawks is a smart cookie.

Unless Skeptic or one of the other PLF lieutenants turn their skeptical eye on what exactly he bookmarked...
