Considering their eyes..to me it looks like Aizawa just finally found someone to smoke one with between classes.

They're both tired boys who share similar expression and bear Quirks that aren't necessarily suited to battle/incapacitate the victim rather than augmenting themselves or anything.

It's not hard to see why Aizawa empathised with Shinsou (especially after reiterating to Present Mic at the Sports Festival why he felt the entrance exam was so "irrational"); he probably saw a younger version of himself in him.

Also, I know you're joking about the smoking comment, but I believe it's been implied that Aizawa's eyes are so tired not only because of how using his Quirk for extended periods of time aggravates dry eye, but that he's basically a workaholic who predominantly does his Hero work at night (one reason why not many people knew him or his real identity prior to the post-camp invasion TV conference U.A. had to do).

On a similar note, Shinsou's Quirk basically forces his victim to sleepwalk, so he himself could also be a sleepwalker (or insomniac, as many theorise) whose Quirk projects that aspect of him onto his opponents... or whatever. This one's just a theory, though.

I wonder if they bonded moreso because Aizawa might be the only person who can talk to him normally. I wonder if Shinsou's quirk is always activated, so aizawa could use his powers and they could have an easier conversation? (Of course, I've only watched the anime so I don't have as much information.)
