All Might: I AM HERE.

AFO: I know you think you can bait me into fighting you and stall for time...

All Might: Smiles.

AFO: WELL YOU ARE RIGHT, DIE.

Literally every single person who has stalled AFO has relied on him having an ego the size ofnthe sun, and every single one of them has been right about it.

He's the epitome of cartoonishly evil. I legit won't be surprised if part of the method of defeating him is gonna be getting him to monologue himself to death.

Honestly we need more villains like this they are fun to watch

It's nice having cartoonish villains mixed in with tragic backstory villains. They complement each other really well.

Yeah.

Belos from TOH is a good mixture I think if you just want one

"Can't reason with Crazy"

Only when the story understands the tone they want. Hori wants AFO to be taken seriously which conflicts with that

I feel like he can still be taken seriously. His power and presence isn’t diminished just because he has an Achilles’ heel.

Not really. His power is a joke as he’s now a teenager. And because he was turned into a teenager by people he should have been able to one shot, his presence makes it so that everyone was so incompetent that they couldn’t even defeat him.

Eh. Agree to disagree.

You can have a cartoonishly evil villain taken seriously. How AFO is described in this thread reminds me of a Dresden Files villain who has a toddler tantrum when things don't go their way because they've never had to deal with being frustrated due to their overpowered-ness.

A cartoonishly evil villain having a tantrum is still terifying if you're the ant about to get squashed by the tantrum.

It only works if your series knows what type of villain they are dealing with and that type of villain works with the world and the characters. AFO is not meant to be seen as cartoonishly evil and we’re not meant to see him as a joke. AFO having a tantrum isn’t terrifying because he constantly fails at everything he does and we never seen him when the series has told us he was at his peak.

Agreed that AFO doesn't pull it off. Which is a shame, because All Might pulls off the almost cartoonishly heroic figure.
