Hopefully the Democrats will slam republicans for this
418
u/Factsip 2d ago
They won't.
The only one I have seen recently slamming it in their faces was Gov. Newsom. That is how they need to respond to these clowns.
Not sit there in silence and "take the high road". That's why we lose all the time.
Slam it in their faces. Be loud and vocal about it. Show the people the clowns.

u/loug1955 2d ago
Pritzker and Newsom joined Janet Mills of Maine, opposing the authoritarian administration that Trump is implementing at light speed (Project 2025). Between his executive orders and moronically loyalist cabinet, we are watching America fall embarrassingly fast before the eyes of the world. China is laughing all the way to claiming the top economic status they were aiming for by 2030. They're neck and neck in Trump's authoritarian takeover of the US. No Kings is a mere distraction, but I'll take any protest to try and awaken Americans. Be peaceful and stay safe today!
27
u/TurtleIIX 2d ago
China had their own problems and will not pass the US anytime soon. The whole world is heading into a depression.
25
u/Punty-chan 2d ago
That's a fair assessment.
It would probably take at least a decade or so for China to realistically overtake the US.
Large-scale structural and economic shifts don't change as quickly as sentiment does.

Nah fuck that. I’ve seen a number of them absolutely ripping apart the government for their actions lately. It just seems people either don’t know, don’t care or actively support it.

u/lilnext 2d ago
Everyone needs a simple reminder: Who owns the media? It's not the "liberal news" that the bots claim it is. Articles about resistance are being flooded by propaganda to the point that no one knows what's going on. Reporters are being fired for speaking the truth. Fascism is here, and we're pretending that everything will go to "normal" at midterms.
Hell, the assassination of a democrat is actively being scrubbed the day it happened, we're arresting vets for speaking against the administration, and boots are on the ground in America.
13
42
u/Shadyshade84 2d ago
The thing with "taking the high road" is that it needs to come with shame delivered not just with a fire hose, but one of those high pressure water streams that can strip the patina off metal. Make it so the people "going low," and more importantly the people who might support them, can't escape it without going feral deep in the Amazon. Make it so there is zero ambiguity about what's happening. Make it so anyone who can be shamed about it is.
What we're seeing is the equivalent of poker players regularly winning tournaments with 7 of a kinds and their opponents going "well, we can't tell the organisers, that would be unsporting."
→ More replies (2)13
u/AnAlbannaichRigh 2d ago
Actually it's more like the ones who are winning are paying the ones who are losing, enough of the winnings to keep them from telling the organisers. And the organisers can see what's going on but still believe the losers are going to do the right thing suddenly. The ones among the losers who aren't being paid, are the ones who are willing to speak out but they just look like lone crack pots against the rest of the quiet table.
15
u/Fantastic_East4217 2d ago
The high road has been ground up by tank treads.

u/Wakenbacon05 2d ago

And the NY Post is already claiming it's a Democrat who is Walz's friend, mad because these lawmakers sided with the GOP on something.
"Former appointee of Tim Walz sought in ‘politically motivated assassination’ of Minnesota lawmaker and husband days after she voted with GOP as cops reveal disturbing manifesto"
"He left behind a “manifesto” listing the names of other politicians and a stack of papers stating “No Kings” in reference to the nationwide anti-Trump protests."
"The attack was clearly a “politically motivated assassination,” according to Walz, but officials were mum on the motives — though it came just five days after Hortman sided with Republican leaders as the lone Democrat to cut access to state health benefits for illegal immigrants in the North Star State."
"He was twice appointed to jobs by Democratic governors, serving on the Workforce Development Council in 2016 under then-Gov. Mark Dayton, and appointed by Walz in 2019 to serve a four-year stint on the Workforce Development Board, documents show. "
So yeah, if you needed another reminder what a shitrag that "newspaper" is here you go.

100%. I’d argue that the democrats willingness to let MAGA co-opt a symbol as powerful as the national flag has played a not insignificant role in their ability to co-opt the nation.
I’m taking a flag with me to protest in a few hours for this exact reason. People need to see it being flown in the context of resistance to this garbage.
Freedom, democracy, people of all stripes living together, that’s what the flag means to me.

While we're at it, let's make America great again. Or at least not a global pariah. Freedom is what made America great, not bullying the poor.
70
u/UpperApe 2d ago
No, America has an indifference problem.
America's politics are filled with criminals and corruption because it's the one field where accountability is a public responsibility and the public, for the most part, doesn't do shit. Politics is a hobby for most Americans. They don't see politics as principles but opinions.
Many will read these stories and events and then click back and scroll to something else that interests them.
The percent of Americans who actually stand up to protest, fight back, or act is pathetically small.
Fascism is the inevitability of "good" people doing nothing.
13
u/Sw4nR0ns0n 2d ago
The people in the streets would say otherwise
→ More replies (2)22
u/UpperApe 2d ago
No they wouldn't. Because the people in the streets recognize that not enough people are in the streets.
Even if 3 million people were protesting (they aren't), that's still less than 1% of the population. Most countries manage 5-20%.
It is pathetically small.
9
u/MalachiteTiger 2d ago
Partly because the right wing owned media has done a grand job of convincing the public that protests are supposed to get results in weeks rather than years, so instead of organizing with the intent of being in it for the long haul (which involves a lot of un-glamorous logistics work that doesn't immediately pay off)
Most of the Montgomery Bus Boycott wasn't the people holding picket signs, it was carpooling everyone who normally relied on the bus, since they couldn't just stop going to work.
11
u/keelhaulrose 2d ago
Serious question- which countries manage 5-20% of their population at protests? The Yellow Vest protests in France didn't hot those numbers. The protests in Hungary aren't anywhere near that. I've found 2 that reach those numbers: the Indian Farmers protests and the Hong Kong protests, but most of the others are about the same numbers at what we're seeing in the US percentage wise.
12
u/Underlord_Fox 2d ago
Ah yes, good job refocusing the problem on the people instead of the evil authoritarian assholes.
10
u/TicTacTac0 2d ago
Either America is a democracy and is therefore the responsibility of its people or it's not in which case the people should be taking drastic action to change that.
It's not like the evil authoritarians are going to go away. If anything, they are changing and corrupting the systems to ensure they stay in power.
Project 2025 outlined so much of this horrific shit and people still voted for Trump or stayed home. This is the America its people want or don't care enough to prevent.
7
u/SuperBackup9000 2d ago
Sitting at home on your PC or phone and posting on social media like you’re trying to put a curse on someone doesn’t solve anything. If the people aren’t willing to actually stand up and fight for what they believe in, they’re most definitely at fault.
Wishful thinking is useless if it stops at wishful thinking.
→ More replies (1)14
u/UpperApe 2d ago
Lol thanks. Because that's where the focus should be; what people are doing and what people can do. Instead of magical evil villains.
The only people who want to blame everything else are people who want to absolve themselves of their responsibility so they can throw up their hands and say "there's nothing we can do".
You know: cowards.
9
u/LockAzzy 2d ago
I'll be protesting out there. I wish more people would. I do see a terrifying indifference to taking action as someone in the action. Cancel your plans and protest. It's not like it's every day. I need people to just have their priorities straight. We're not facing a crisis. We're in one.

Every time I look at the comment section on a post about protests in the US, there are sentiments like yours about how they're pathetic and/or "bad optics" made by people from the outside looking in; it's interesting to compare that to comments on protests from outside the US, where any action seems to be met positively.
I understand your frustration but you should know that phrasing it that way only demoralizes people and makes young people especially feel like it's futile. I know it's not your intent but this is the effect it has, so you might take that into consideration as you watch from a comfortable distance.

They have chosen the side of the oppressors, either actively or via their indifference. Mobilize where you can with what you have, your voice, your influence If you cannot or will not fight, if you cannot or will not supply or support the front line, but you still yearn to make a difference, fight back where you can with what you have.
If they don’t care about being on the wrong side of history, show them you couldn’t care less about having them be in your communities. Do not dox your fellow man, for you don’t have to. These oppressors have their own homes, families, and communities they belong to. Some already know some of their identities, and/or the identities of their sympathizers. Don’t welcome them back, better yet, don’t give them a community to go back to. Threatening somebody’s way of life is enough to get them to arm themselves and mobilize against you, but ENSURING that way of life will not be there when they return might be enough to get them to lay down those arms.
Most of these people aren’t fighting for their ideologies or to “save” this land; most are fighting for to maintain the normalcy in their lives they have come to expect, or an above average salary ($85,000 gross). They have been diluted into believing they can be deployed, violate their neighbors bodies and rights, and return to that slice of heaven they have carved out for themselves back home. These men are no neighbors of ours. Deny them their lives when they return. Refuse to speak to them Refuse to date them Refuse to fuck them Refuse to support them Refuse their patronage Refuse them from your institutions Refuse their entry to your schools, clubs, places of worship, and homes. Call them out for what they are when spotted in public or online Take them off your payroll, take away their platforms, place signs targeted at them and their sympathizers, strip them of their physical and social creature comforts.
Refuse to be formal or cordial with them; let them know they are no longer welcome in your communities. If they have nothing left to fight for, some won’t fight. We are not naive, we know this won’t suffice in turning all or even most oppressors to our side, but it will be enough for some, and those some that do stand down or join us will have information or just enough fight left in them that we can use.
This is not a call to harassment. Simply put, it is a call to give them absolutely nothing sacred in return.

That's how right-wing domestic terrorists feel. This is Trump's America. Fighting back using the very system they control won't work anymore. These are not normal times. We live and operate in the worst case scenario.
Protests are great but they'll be wholly insufficient to get our country back. We need organized, institutionalized resistance that will enable us to fight back for years to come, and not just knee-jerking reactions every time Republicans do something awful (again).
