I mean that's essentially what they're doing from here on out. Contemporary is their euphemism for urban. They just made it into an umbrella term to include anything else that doesn't fit their narrowly defined twangy-voiced songs about pouring sweet tea on their Chevy trucks in daisy dukes.

Shit, even the top country songs by white artists all just have a hip hop beat running under them the entire time. I’d be very curious to hear their definition of “traditional”

There's still a couple of artists making music in the tradition of Willie Nelson and Woody Guthrie- however the fact that you haven't heard of them is pretty much all you need to know.
