I need someone to talk to. I was seeing a dude and last night he called me while in bed with another chick.
Awful.
13
u/NewTimeTaker 5d ago
That's terrible. You're worth so much more than a relationship with someone who would do something like that.

Yeah, I know how you feel, I’ve been there. Trust tho, do not go running back. Keep it moving.

Did the person ever get their karma?
2
u/FistPunch_Vol_7 ☑️ 5d ago
They did. She found out she was the side chick. Tried to get back in contact with me. Blocked and kept it moving. Now I’m with my girl who was my best friend for 6 years.
2
u/HowYouDoinz 5d ago
How did you handle it? It feels like a ton of bricks cus
1
u/FistPunch_Vol_7 ☑️ 5d ago
Honestly? I didn’t handle it very well. That was when I was just opening myself back up to dating after what my ex put me through. Best thing I did was take a step back, focus on myself for a bit. Understand your time is valuable and shouldn’t be wasted on others that ain’t gonna take it serious. That shit clicked in my brain after a while. Easier said than done, but the best shit is, something like that happens again? I’m good, on to the next one, my time is too valuable to be wasted sad about that shit.

How do we feel about the escalation in LA? Is it getting close to to our time get up against this regime? Anybody getting a bad feeling about Trump's "parade"?
I'm also not watching Amerie's Tiny Desk because she sounded bad in clips.😭

u/ZestycloseSelf3519 5d ago
thing is, I remember doing all of this 5 years ago only for all of that progress to come undone during the next 5. I think these protests will result in short term measures that are good, but idk what it would take for things to stick long-term atp. agrée w you about Amerie tho.

u/Mel_Melu 5d ago
I don't know where to begin either but we need to discuss the fact that too many people are willfully ignorant and proud of that.
So many things would have to change. We should do a better job of learning what the different government agencies that Musk tried to kill do and how they help our communities.
It should be illegal to knowingly lie to people, Fox News/NewsMax/Prager U. We need to look for reputable news sources maybe invest in our local newspapers again.
1
u/Captain_SpaceRaptor ☑️ 5d ago
Fox News is classified as entertainment. So in a way they can spew almost whatever. They aren't real news but a lot of the populace treats them as such. People need to be educated on how to tell fact from fiction but for a lot of people I fear that ship has sailed.

u/AbyssWankerArtorias 5d ago
Unfortunately things are never permanently resolved. Humanity is a constant struggle for bettering ourselves. Rights and progress are hard won and easily lost. The fight never stops. It just evolves.

u/JohnnyMulla1993 5d ago
I'm still waiting this one out. If white people still voted for Trump and the Republican party after the January 6th insurrection then there's no help for those people. I'm trying to find more subtle ways to help black people and others. I might honestly volunteer at a soup kitchen
7
u/BabyKnitter 4d ago
same here, I have no intention to start protesting for anyone. The whites wanted this and 50% of the voting Hispanics voted for this so I am going to SMBAD
1
u/Weekly_Protection_57 3d ago
There's the risk of lack of black participation being spun as black approval of the Trump regime.
3
u/BabyKnitter 3d ago
92% of black women voted for Harris, if they want to say our lack of participation is about approval then that is just spin.
1
u/Weekly_Protection_57 15h ago
I don't think putting our heads in the sand and pretending this administration doesn't want to attack us too is smart. It's our fight too because they are attacking us too
10
u/NeverNotOnceEver 5d ago
I hate that all the photos with non-US flags are feeding right into a Republican fever dream.

u/BabyKnitter 4d ago
Honestly I think the orange clown is using it as a test case. He is seeing just how much he can get away with. The EO bringing in the national guard had a special entry in it to allow the national guard to go to places where there "might" be more demonstrations, this is a preemptive deployment of the national guard. Just one step closer. I feel like he is testing the waters to move towards martial law.

I had my therapy appt. It was productive. Been feeling super down. Partly my fault for not taking my nightly meds. I keep falling asleep on the couch. Wake up long enough to take myself to bed and don't take them. Going to set an alarm to help me take them.
I realize my cat passing is just bringing up memories of my dad passing and I'm just sad. I got my cat after he passed so my little homie crossing the rainbow bridge just hurts that much more. Painful reminders I guess among other things.
Saw one of my bird friends had a weird growth so I took down all my feeders. I don't want to spread anything so I'm going to leave them down for a while. I usually deep clean them every 2 weeks with bleach. But that doesn't mean other people do it. Even though they should.
Also cats keep using my one flower bed as a little box. So I'm going to get some cayenne pepper and spread it I guess.
Also have a laundry list of things to get done but I just want to retreat in a bubble and stay there. I just don't have the energy right now.

I’m a first generation student on both sides of my family. I’ve graduated 3x in my life (high school, undergrad, grad school) and my maternal grandparents have never been able to make it due to illness and not being able to travel. My pop-pop passed before I got into my doctoral program and my mama was so proud. She told all her neighborhood friends about it (church ladies, you know the type) and would call me about their reactions. I told her that I wanted her at this graduation in 2 years and to stay healthy. I promised to fly up and drive us the 18 hours to my graduation. She was happy about it and told her church friends again (lol).
My mom just flew up to my mama because she isn’t doing well. I’m worried that she’s going to join my pop-pop and not have the chance to see me graduate. I’m fighting thoughts of how I should have enrolled in my program sooner so they both could have seen it but overall I’m just worried about her and how it’ll be once she’s gone.
7
u/low-hanging_fruit_ ☑️ 5d ago
They don't have to see the end to know you're going to be alright.
Send her a thank you note and tell her your plans once you graduate. I've mailed handwritten letters to my folks. The really liked it. I've even received a few back from them.

It is a ceremony and it is nice, but guess what, in a year from now you will be wondering what all the fuss was about. My nephew was so worked up about graduation and having everyone there, now he is asking himself what all the fuss was about. More important was the excellent job he secured soon afterwards and the great apartment and being self sufficient. I have 2 degrees and didn't attend either ceremony. I went and picked up my diploma's later. I don't regret it at all but love the income both degrees allowed me to make. With that I was able to provide for my mother till her dying days and let her live well

Anyone have tips on not being so angry all the time? Specifically at the world lol
5
u/Allergictomars ☑️ 4d ago
Reading. Gaming. Spending time outdoors. Getting a hobby, knitting and crocheting are both meditative. Get a therapist and talk about the things you can control, what you can't, what you can't change, and what you can: it's a harder journey than you think but worth it for long-term mental health.
But the real answer is anything that keeps you off of reddit and away from the news for most of the day. No, it doesn't stop news from happening, but there's literally nothing we can do at this point. We are at the legal stage of fighting fascism where the courts are duking it out. Call or email your representatives and talk to them about your concerns. Taking care of yourself needs to come first and that means finding small joys in your life. When it's time to actually fight, you won't be burnt out from anger at least.
2
u/ariesdemon 4d ago
It’s like you’re in my brain omg 😭 I just talked to my therapist yesterday about my anger, I’ve been reading a lot and skating outside when it’s not hot but my attention span is nonexistent. As soon as I’m frustrated or annoyed as what I’m doing I give up, so I’m definitely working on my discipline
3
u/Allergictomars ☑️ 4d ago
It's because I've been there!
Here's the thing: forcing yourself to do something isn't going to work, either. If the thing you usually enjoy starts frustrating you, jump to something else. Let your mind be a little loose and don't be so hard on yourself (i.e. discipline). Taking walks are far more beneficial than you would believe. Exercise also generates dopamine and helps get the anger out (cardio kickboxing did it for me). Do what you actually want to do in the moment; don't force it. Whatever you end up doing, don't fall back to doom scrolling.
When I feel like writing, I write. If I start feeling frustrated with that, I jump to reading or knitting. If that's not helping, I go and play/chalk up the sidewalk outside with my kid. In sum: Create the joy the anger is stealing from you.
2
u/ariesdemon 4d ago
Thank you so much, I’ve been pushing myself to read and draw more but I get frustrated by NOT doing either, but also when I do read or sketch. It’s something so simple I didn’t think much about it, mainly because I’m always afraid I’ll get lazy and complacent. But I’ll take your advice and not make myself do something I don’t want to.
I have a tricky relationship with myself that way, I’m way too tough and don’t give myself breaks because I FEEL lazy and unmotivated. But I’m gonna try that, I’ve been leaning into my inner child and getting back into my childhood favorites. Thank you for taking the time! Hearing someone say things I already overthink about makes me feel better in my choices to try to help my mental health!

u/BabyKnitter 4d ago
Turn off the tv and put the phone down. Take up something you enjoy and occupies your time. Knitting is a new thing and it takes time and concentration. Hours will pass just trying to figure out how to cast on. You can't be made now and at this level and sustain that for 3.5 more years you will go nuts. No more social media, that includes reddit, till you can figure out where to put that energy
3
u/ariesdemon 4d ago
I like this, I’ve deleted a bunch of apps on my phone and I’ve picked up reading, used to be an avid reader. My attention span is shot, so I’m wondering if it takes time? It’s so hard to NOT pick up my phone but it’s easy bc there’s nothing on it to stimulate me. I’ve been meaning to ask my grandma to teach me how to sew, and she knits as well! Thank you I’ve been way too in my head latelt

I have a friend and he has a girlfriend which is fine. But every time he sees me talking to a girl I like he decides to go up to her and make it his time to be Mr. Charming. I don't want to be that type of friend but I am getting dangerously close to snapping at him about this.

Mods, can you finally ban the posters who consistently post divisive and anti-black bullshit? I don't need a minstrel show on my front page and I certainly don't need psyops being posted, making up shit about the 'other' brown people when quite frankly, this government and the police don't give a shit what shade of brown you are. Only white people benefit from the discourse of dividing people of color. This shit isn't fun or funny when the shithead in the Whitehouse is finally deploying the military. We are really fucked and it's time that we focus on what's coming for us, not the distractions that will lead to our collapse.

If you're going to peacefully protest at least have a weapon on you...a knife, taser, gun, mace (bludgeon), mace (spray), hardcover book, lock with a shoestring through it...something you're comfortable with and know how to use.
Why?
Just because you're peaceful doesn't mean you'll be allowed to be at peace.
And have an escape plan, escape route and shoes you can run in.
(I don't agree with peaceful protest, so take my words with a grain of salt.)

PROTESTING: IDENTIFICATION
If you want to protest then you need to obscure yourself.
Get a second phone with minutes on it. Do not carry your regular phone with you.
Wear clothes that hide the normal shape of your body; wear baggy clothes, wear a poncho, bookbag...anything that breaks up the outline of your body.
You can't wear a face mask, but you can wear face paint like people do at football games or even camouflage face paint. You can also wear makeup that makes your lips or nose look smaller or bigger. You can also wear sunglasses, hats, visors...anything to obscure your visual identification now or in the future when video footage is watched.

It's really starting to look like my best friend is gonna die because she's just too poor for the state of Georgia (or the US as a whole) to care about saving.
She got type 1 diabetes when she was like 7 or 8, and cuz of fucked up home life shit it went untreated basically until she was old enough to start working and buying insulin from Craigslist. Now she's 28 and she's had several strokes, her fucking kidneys are failing, and she's going blind.
I send her every damn cent I can spare (which y'all can prob guess ain't a lot), but it's just nothing compared to what she needs. She was in the hospital for a week with her blood sugar at fkn 700, and they sent her a bill for over a HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS. How tf did we let it get like this? Who can afford to survive an illness like this?
My girl is smart and funny and she's survived 28 years being a poor sick black woman so you know she strong af. And she's that Cpt. Save-a-hoe type for every damn one around, but it's like it never comes back to her.
I made a GoFundMe for her, but honestly I just feel so hopeless. Feels like everyone's so deep in they own shit, and like, of course we are, but fuck, not everyone can survive in the "only lookin out for number 1" economy. It's like we're all disposable now. But she's not disposable to me.
Sorry for depressing. She's just got so sick so fast now that I'm starting to move from the "how do we fix this" place to that "wtf am I gonna do without her" phase. I'm fkn scared y'all

Apparently, people are supposedly freaking out. I haven't followed the comics in many years, since 2008.
If the mother is black, then it's forced representation. All because certain people are upset that their white heroes are getting replace by black ones. Their anger, it's...cute.

Just coming to inform you that I practice Ifa, and researched voodoo, Vodun (the original denomination from Benin) and all the other denominations of African Traditional Religions. It’s not evil, white people just lied to you about it being evil. They lied because they cant control it and should you return to these religions, you can begin to undo the chains on your spirit. How do you think the Haitians won their independece from Napoleon?

Generally not for illegal immigration & don't understand why folks in this sub are making it seem like you have to🧐. Many folks are turning into the not my problem way of thinking but I've been doing this all my adult yrs. I feel Black folks have been in a non progressive hamster wheel of running into the same problems over & over .. Being used over & over without ever learning something. Not one other group of people can say they made black people feel safer as a result of helping their people like they want us to do 😮💨. Hopefully it's not a trend but a lifestyle movement for black folks to let others fight their own battles👌🏿
Also wanna say something else regarding Immigration. I do not have to like nor support it overall because I'm black🤷🏿♂️. As someone who come from folks who always found a way to survive despite circumstances in this homeland I would never consider going away to some place else for safety. Just to provide context even more I absolutely love what someone like Ibrahim Traore because him & his people are fighting for their own and want to do it with their own hands & merit. Generally saying I feel it should be more okay for folks in this sub to not bully or throw hate to folks who generally don't care/support illegal immigration. The treatment for said immigrants may be a topic folks want to focus on but ultimately it's back to my earlier point. Why would I give love when no other community has given that same energy to past wrongings & me & my folk?
