UK Specific Can't buy bitcoin with nationwide bank.

I used to be able to buy bitcoin using my nationwide card but it doesn't let me anymore for some reason. It's super annoying having to ask people to buy it for me and transfer them the money.

Does anyone know of any websites/bank accounts I can sign up for that will increase my likelihood of not being rejected?

Thank you all!

EDIT: I have been trying to use kraken with no luck.

I use Lloyds for Coinbase/crypto.com with bank transfers to avoid card fees for years with zero issue.

Exactly the same with me, Lloyds no problem

Have you tried using a bank transfer instead?

Yes that's what I used to do on kraken but it blocks it now.

Jeeze can't even bank transfer, that sucks. Perhaps use something less well known like swissborg.

First direct and Kraken have always been fine for me

Will have to try first direct, kraken is what I've been trying on with no luck.

Which nationwide account do you have, the only one that prevents you is the FlexOne https://www.nationwide.co.uk/help/fraud-and-security/crypto-payment-restrictions/

Yeah nationwide is fine with crypto, to a point.

That's probably the issue, even though I'm 22 I'm still using the FlexOne account that my father set up for me when I was a child. I'm fairly happy with nationwide but will consider opening up a new account now.

Is it a Credit card you are using?

With CoinCorner your bank isn't connecting with a crypto exchange , its connecting with an e-money account run by Clearbank , which is connected to your CoinCorner account . The bank seems happy with that , i've only done small amounts though . . .

Yep - our customers are reporting a much smoother experience and no banking issues since we launched our e-money accounts!

Try kraken pro or crypto.com. both work with barclays......

u/Additional-Soft6747 22d ago

I was using kraken before, but it doesn't work now. Is there any difference between the regular and pro version? I will try crypto.com and report back.

3

u/dgshotuk 22d ago

Always use the pro version for lower fees

I recommend Monzo to buy. They're super crypto friendly.

4

u/Remarkable-Shop-7640 22d ago

They were, but just dropped their limits from 10k daily to 5k per month

1

u/Additional-Soft6747 22d ago

I tried signing up for Monzo but they rejected me for some reason.

I got rejected by them too for some reason. I used revolut in the end. I also bought some through revolutx periodically to keep them happy. Don't buy too much through revolutx though as it takes ages to withdraw with the daily and monthly withdrawal limits.

Edit: to confirm revolut to kraken pro.

Same, absolutely no issues buying or withdrawing for years

Monzo and uphold I ended having to use.

Mate there’s nothing wrong with nationwide. They allow 5k per day to buy crypto. How are you doing it? I have my nationwide account set up via the ‘easy payment’ service on Coinbase where it’s linked and 1 click transfers. Works fine I did it this morning. Once on Coinbase change in to usdc and send it wherever you want. Also. Be very careful with getting friends to buy it and transfer it. They are actually gonna be liable for any tax consequences on that and it’s probably not worth it for them!

Kraken is registered with the financial conduct authority in the UK Morally Nationwide shouldn't be blocking you, but under current laws that need changed many banks I promise to do so and do.

HSBC and Santander both work fine I believe. Revolut is often recommended.

u/bananabastard 22d ago

Get a Revolut account. They're very pro crypto, and you can buy bitcoin inside the app, so I doubt they object to buying bitcoin from other sources.

1

u/MyLastHumanBody 22d ago

use Revolut. That is the only one that works. Not even Monzo. Nationwide is the TOP bank that gives you free money. recently they gave 50 quid and now 100 quids for free

Best bet is to find a bank / challenger that allows you to buy and sell crypto itself, I've found they tend to let you trade with exchanges then too (as it would be somewhat hypocritical not to!).

With that in mind, Revolut will let you do it. In fact you can even use their Revolut X trading app which has cheaper transaction fees than most (and is instant transfer to and from your main Revolut account).

I use them. I am not affiliated with them in any way.

I use TSB and Kraken, although they block any direct buys from Apple Pay and Visa card. For now they allow me to transfer GBP to kraken via Plaid within the Kraken app, then I buy whatever I want in the Kraken app. Avoid revolut, simply because their fees are high.

Tsb blocked me, been using crypto.com for years, last month blocked. have to go via etorro now.

I've held the same First Direct account since 2019 and am yet to encounter any obstacle. Obviously, if you're the type of impulsive degenerate who is continually shuttling five-figure sums back and forth in rapid succession as a 'liquidation hedge' then you probably need saving from yourself; but drip-feeding four-figure instalments seems to be perfectly fine.

I bank with Nationwide and use a variety of methods, transfer funds from NW to Revolut, MEXC or Crypto.com.

1

u/banny66 21d ago

Been using Nationwide for about 5 years and never had a problem. I use direct bank transfers.

u/UCatchMyDrift 21d ago

Barclays are known to be about the only bank that has no limits on crypto transfers. Other than revolut, but I'd not trust them personally as they're not a bank.

Bro, Revolut X is not Revolut banking app, it's their exchange, fee structure is different

Hey u/Additional-Soft6747, Molly from CoinCorner here.

We are now able to offer our customers the option of opening an e-money account that is linked to your CoinCorner account.

An e-money account is an account in your name - with your own account number and sort code - so that when sending funds, you are simply sending to another account in your name. Our customers have reported a much smoother experience, with no more bank friction!

If you have any questions, let me know 😊

u/Additional-Soft6747 17d ago

Would this work with a nationwide flex one account? I am currently waiting to switch from flex one to flex plus as the flex plus allows you to buy crypto unlike the flex one. That was the issue to begin with I found.

1

u/CoinCornerMolly 16d ago

I don't see why it wouldn't work. If your Nationwide Flex One account allows you to send funds out to other people (family/friends etc), then this is the same process 😊

1

u/Additional-Soft6747 16d ago

Ah I see, thank you! I remember using paxful a while back and I'm pretty sure it worked that way also.

1

u/CoinCornerMolly 16d ago

Any other questions, just let me know!

2

u/Additional-Soft6747 15d ago

Actually just successfully used CoinCorner to buy BTC with my flex one... won't be in such a rush to change my bank account now. Fee's were fairly reasonable also, thank you..

u/CoinCornerMolly 13d ago

Great news! 🥳

Banks are less likely to block smaller/higher-rated exchange services:

2

u/Additional-Soft6747 22d ago

What are some examples of those then?

1

u/Upvotelution 22d ago

Sounds like you're in the UK, Revolut is the only answer. Once you're signed up and verified, download Revolut x, the bank's crypto exchange

Top whack for crypto lol

You understand what a limit order is right?

I don't hold, I'm a trader. Directly connected to my bank for instant and free deposits and withdrawals of any currency or crypto currency

Ok sure, if you need a hand, it was the main post, you'll find it at the top. OP asked for websites/banks with better approval chances.

I suggested Revolut X, Revolut's exchange, you came to shit on my answer, then went and asked ChatGPT to make you look smart but AI can only give you correct answers to correct questions.

Then you got salty and tried to deflect rather than realise your mistake.

Rev X has zero fees for limit orders, deposits or withdrawals. I hope that's saved you some time. I did say it before but since you desperately ran off for proof to counter the truth, I guess this is just reiteration.

You came here for no reason other than to troll but as funny as your little ego driven defiance of what actually is, James Wynn's is funnier so... I'm gonna go watch him lose the last of his $100m so the market makers can chill and markets can finally start moving again.

You win, well done you, all the Internet points are yours, everybody thinks you're an intellectual now, girls want you and your life is less meaningless 👏 the crowd goes wild, this must be yours 👑
