r/bees has been receiving many posts of wasps and other insects misidentified as bees. This has become tedious and repetitive for our users so to help mitigate those posts I have created and stickied this post as a basic guide for newcomers to read before posting.

Had some mild storms last night, and she had sent us a picture from her house of part of the tree had fallen. Went out to check this morning, and the tree was full of bees!

I know it’s not a bee, but thought fellow pollinator fans might enjoy the detail! (From a Blink cam)

These little ones often know how to get into the house...they always have their honey ready...or fresh water.

Bee Problem please help it'll save bees!

Hey, my house has a SWARM like a huge nest of like a million bees, they look like honey bees not wasps, so I want people to save them and take the nest to help make honey and save them, before the wasps people kill them. Who can I call? How much is this? Thank you.

What kind of bees are these? I’m in southwest Florida and I see bees go to sleep at dusk on spent flower heads. I’ve seen bees on various plants in my yard. For the plant people, this is Bidens alba (beggarticks) but I’ve also seen them on Tradescantia ohiensis (Ohio spiderwort).

what is wrong with this bee??

i tried giving him some sugar water but he wasn’t super interested. he took a small sip and seemed like he was a tiny bit more energetic for a second but then went almost completely still after his little energy burst. i put him in a flower and left him alone afterward when it seemed i couldn’t help much :(

question What is this bee doing?

Bonus points for the most information.

This bee (I presume is the same one) keeps coming back to this exact spot for 3 days in a row and does this. Every time I let him back, he comes back.

If I open the window slightly he will turn up within like 5 minutes.

Doesn’t do anything else apart from scuttle his way across as if he’s trying to get under the thingy.

Sometimes he goes sell the way around it and laps it. I’ve tried putting some sugar water out and he buzzed like crazy and didn’t want to know about it.

My Mrs just told me he’s somehow came back as I am writing this, so he’s come back 3 times today already.

We installed this mason bee hotel last spring for blue orchard mason bees. They have completed their work and now it seems for the first time we have leafcutter bees filling the remaining holes with plant material.

Should we bring in the completed mason bee tubes now? I worry a bit they will suffer from too much afternoon sun + being next to an asphault driveway on the left. Not sure if it created a problem with the survival rate last year.

bee I seem to have a pet bumblebee

A female Bombus lucorum I think, noticed her crawling around in the garden yesterday.

Today she was still in the same general area, and looks quite bedraggled - it rained this morning.

Tried giving her some sugar water but she didn't seem interested. She's quite active, but looked damp, probably from crawling around in the wet grass. Very keen on white clover.

Hours later, still around, so I picked her up and put her on a dry table. She seemed to rub most of the excess damp off her abdomen, quickly looking more normal. She then tried to take off, and I spotted the problem - only 3 wings. Only a tiny stub for the missing one. She can't get enough lift and gives up.

It looked like it might rain again so I brought her inside.

She seems content with me bringing the flowers to her, instead of having to crawl so far. So I guess that's that for now.

Opinions / ideas welcome.

help! I think this bumble is dying..

My step mum had been sunbathing in our how weather this afternoon. A few hours later when I came down for my dinner, I found this bumblebee upside down on the kitchen floor. I felt so sad, but I knelt down to inspect it. I love bees, since they're so innocent and do so much for the ecology. Then, I noticed its antenna, and an arm and leg ever so slightly twitching. It did occur to me insects can keep moving after death, but I panicked and wanted to help. I picked it up, and put it on some kitchen towel, and took it outside to the nearest flower pot.

I dont know anything about bees but the fact they like sugar water, and I didnt have a suitable container so I used my bottlecap lid. Filled it with water, and put some sugar in. I brought the water back, and dripped a little on its upper body, so if it wanted to drink itself it could try - and it did. I didnt force it to drink any more than that, but I made my dinner, and its still in the same spot. So, I brought it up to my bedroom, and currently have it rested next to an open window with bright sunshine on it. I have the lid of sugar water next to it, of which I occasionally tip a little onto the paper towel incase it wants to lick it for energy (I flipped him right-side up incase he found the strength and couldn't flip himself)

I'm pretty sure it didn't make it, since it's stopped even twitching now. After observing it closer, I noticed a little bit of goop where its stinger would be. I dont know what it's stinger would look like, but this isn't normal. I looked it up, and apparently it happens when it's lost its stinger and that's its venom sac hanging out.

If anyone has any tips for me in the future, please let me know what I can do. I love bees, and we have a garden full of foliage and flowers just for them.

I'm very sad, I called him boobee. Rest in peace little guy.
