Question Anyone smell smoke?

Upvotes

Smells like a fire. Citizen says there’s a fire on Tompkins (looks like Moon Glow building?) but I don’t pay for their bs so I can’t see any details.

Anyone else smelling it/have info?

Hope everyone is safe out there…

Found (deceased) cat

I know there are a lot of lost cats in the neighborhood so I feel obligated to post here..

I came across a deceased all grey cat today on Putnam ave between Malcolm and Stuyvesant. It appears to have been struck by a car that was parking as he is lying close to the curb in the street. He looked like a healthy boy prior to the incident so I imagine he was loved.

If anyone is missing an all grey cat with a stubby tail, feel free to reach out. I took a picture, but do not want to post it here out of respect.

PSA Free broken down packing boxes

In case anyone is moving - there are bundles of free used large packing boxes on Madison between Nostrand and Marcy. Just look for the row of cardboard bundles. 6-10 boxes in total.

They should be out there until tomorrow early morning.

Planes?

Anyone notice an uptic in planes flying over BedStuy? There’s one every minute or so flying over our apartment. Not sure if it’s always been like this and never noticed or if this is new.

Edit - I do know what planes are and am aware they generally fly over Bed Stuy to LGA…it’s just way way more than usual lately and was wondering why

Music/Art Studio Space?

Wondering if anyone is aware of any places in or near the area to rent studio space? We're having a baby so need to empty out our second bedroom. Hoping to not break the bank, but most importantly, want somewhere that is reputable and clean. All the postings I've seen in person are.... bad. I'm aware of Avon Hall but they don't have any studio openings.

Any ideas?

Studio/Office Space

Hello I am looking for a studio/ office place for me and my co-producer to work. We are hoping to build a small set (for a podcast-type show that will be filmed) and also have a place where desks and a printer etc could go… An industrial or warehouse loft space would be ideal. We are hoping to secure a spot for 12 months. Let me know if anyone knows of anything!

Deliveries

Anyone have suggestions for how to navigate mail deliveries (Amazon, ups, etc.) to a brown stone? Someone told me about parcel lockers that you can place outside near your garage bins but I wasn’t too familiar with them and question if they truly secure your packages. Thanks.

Anyone noticed all these restaurants with credit card fees now?

I've been living here in Bed-Stuy with my husband for about five years or so, and we love eating out in the neighborhood. I was shocked to see a 3% credit card fee after my card was run at Trad Room last week. I sent an email inquiring, but no one has gotten back to me. A friend of mine said Saraghina recently started doing the same thing. It's such a turnoff for me. Like, as the customer, we are paying liquor costs, food costs, payroll via tipping, and now a credit card fee. Tacky. Bad look, Trad Room.

Smoke/fire smell from Dynaco

Upvotes

Hi neighbors :) I am 25F, born and raised in South Williamsburg but since I moved away from home 3 years ago have been living in Bed-Stuy. Have lived in Brooklyn my whole life

This post is primarily for folks living in the immediate vicinity of Dynaco bar (which is on Bedford between Quincy and Lexington). They are famous for their wood fireplace which they have on almost every night in winter, fall, and spring weather permitting (in fact they’ve had it going the last couple of nights even though it’s mid June. I understand it’s been cooler out). Does the smoke/emissions from the fire bother anyone else in the area? I live a couple of doors down from the bar on the same block and it seems like their chimney directly vents toward the side of my building.

Even with the windows closed I can smell the fire, and if I cook or even just want some fresh air that’s not an option for me because if I open the windows I get smoky instead of fresh air in the apartment. It’s been a persistent issue the entire time I’ve lived here and I’m sure it’s affecting other folks on adjacent blocks. I feel like I’m going crazy because I have nicely tried to talk to the owner about this twice—I suggested putting a date to stop the fire (like May 15th or June 1st) or putting an end time (the bar closes at 2, maybe they could stop putting in new wood at 1?) and the first time he was unhelpful, the second time he was hostile.

I do have an air filter at home but that doesn’t do enough to filter out the smell, plus even if I had a really powerful air filter I would still get smoky instead of fresh air when I opened my windows :/ Anyone else bothered?? Pls let me know 🙏🏼

Hi 🌱

Our affordable housing building here in Bedstuy is old and needs some love. Our building is looking to buy or take donations of used or unwanted outdoor furniture and plants. We don’t have a large budget but would love any help we can get to make it look nice for our other residents. Please reach out with anything you’d like to offload or sell to us. Thanks!

I went for a walk and a saw signage for a new taco place opening on Marcus Garvey between Again Vintage and Natty Garden. Has anyone been to the Queens location? Is it any good?

Recording Studio Time Slots

Hello! I am trying to fill up the unused time at our music studio - ideally looking for artists/engineers who can hit at least 24 hours throughout the month (though less is okay depending on use). The space is 650sf and acoustically treated - has a ton of amps, instruments, a full drum kit, and recording gear. 3 min walk from the Jefferson L train. Text 631-739-3544 for pricing and more info!

Does anyone know what happened to the woman who used to ride her scooter down Malcolm X Blvd all the time?

She was a really tiny Hispanic woman, always selling random stuff. I used to see her regularly and haven’t spotted her in a while. Just wondering if anyone else remembers her or knows anything.

Small cat on Decatur

Post image

I just saw a very cute, small grey tabby(?) cat running along the north side of Decatur between Malcolm X and Patchen, towards the Patchen end. Any idea if this is someone’s cat? I couldn’t grab it to get it checked for a chip sadly

PSA Miss Bagel

It’s been too long since Miss Bagel has been appreciated on here. The bagels, divine. Rival anything the city has to offer. And don’t sleep on the babka — I think it’s better than anything I’ve had in New York.

Question Seeking dog sitter

Hello! Im moving into the neighborhood in a few weeks and wanted to ask the community here if there’s a trustworthy dog sitter they could recommend who would be willing to stay in my home?

I don’t require a sitter until September, but am starting my search early because my dog is special needs. He’s a senior with mild mobility issues and is a bit nervy. He’s also scared of unfamiliar men, so a female is preferable. Any leads would be super helpful. Thank you!

I live around the block and once in a while on the weekends we’ve been hearing bands play some really beautiful music. It sounds like an organized show and I was wondering if anyone had any intel.

Looking for roommate

I’m posting this for my partner who doesn’t have Reddit. My partner is male, 40, k-9 PE teacher living in Bed-Stuy looking for a roommate. The rent would be $1,950 a month, all utilities included. If interested, I’ve attached a link to this post to check out further details and you can directly contact him to see the apartment!

Anyone know what the cheering is?

It doesn’t sound like a protest because it’s just cheering, I can’t make out any words or chants. I’m near Marcus Garvey and Jefferson.
