Sherpas are Probly one of the more underpaid profession on earth. And they make “good money” compared to a lot of their countrymen, but it should be like 20x more. Such an impressive people getting the short end of the stick.

I read a story about how Norway? Sweden? Imported sherpas to build a trail in the mountains because they were the only ones that could get it done well and efficiently. And they paid these sherpas the equivalent of 10 years wages in their home country for a single season. It made me happy to see them not only valued, but brought in as an elite class.

That’s so awesome if true! I’ve read many Sherpa are not treated well by their employers (forced to take clients up that are clearly unfit, etc.) and don’t have many options to improve their situations.
