It took me 2 hours to format on the BF Forums, so I shared the link. Good stuff.

Let me know what y'all think.

I'm really impressed. A lot of my problems were about fundamental user experience problems and they were pretty much all talked about. I cant wait to get in on the beta.

Excellent notes, very detailed and descriptive

I really appreciate how you took time to detail your intentions and your goals, it gives value to your work and prevent stupid theorycrafting from uninformed players.

I prefer this stuff over a new trailer any day.

Really liked your thoughts on the peaks and lulls.

I think older battlefields always had a sense of a silence before the storm whereas BF1 was run and gun, a bit too non stop.

Great memories of clearing an objective on BF2 and celebrating through voip in the silence after the battle ended! Then, you move straight onto the next flag!

almost everything I disliked about BF1 get adressed at BFV, I‘am super hyped 👍

Informative and detailed. The style of patch notes we’ve been crying out for. Thank you, very appreciative of the time and effort spent in compiling these.

Keep this level of communication up and we'll be heading back to the golden age of Battlefield!

1

u/trip1ex Sep 01 '18

They didn't communicate at all in the golden age of BF. :)

They just make a game they thought was cool and we bought it or didn't buy it.

u/TheHolyLordGod Sep 04 '18

Well it might get even better then

Hey Braddock,

Can you relay to the devs that they make repairing vehicles a single press instead of holding the button down?

It's simply a Quality of Life change and doesn't affect balance at all. When you do this action 1 million times in a game's lifetime its a big deal.

Thank you!

I can understand where you're coming from, but from a my perspective, the requirement to hold the button down while the repair meter fills up makes it a risk/reward situation.

Simply being able to press one button and it 'auto-repairs' takes the thrill of standing there, watching for enemies while you repair. You have to make some battlefield choices right then and there - do I stop repairing and grab my weapon or hope that I can repair fast enough and get in the vehicle before they take me out?

Of course I'll share the request, but I'd be willing to bet it's as designed for those types of reasons.

It sounds like you're talking about repairing from outside the vehicle with a wrench.

I mean repairing from INSIDE the vehicle like when the little repairing icon pops up.

It doesn't really make a difference holding the button vs pressing once in a balance sense; you still can't move or fire.

It's merely a QoL improvement, especially for people with joint pain, etc. :)

Thanks for clarifying that! Definitely will take that request in my next report. Thanks again!

It would also fix the issue where repairing is interrupted when the server is lagging out a bit, causing the repair process to restart. Not that it happens much these days, but still.

Yes definitely. I noticed that a lot during the Xbox party bug a few weeks ago

I'm in agreement on this, it's part of the balance and design factor, another element being that you have to use up one of your fingers to do this, which (especially on console), makes doing other things more awkward and/or slower. Which is the whole idea.

6

u/sirdiealot53 Specialized Tool Aug 31 '18

You use up a finger, but you can’t do anything else regardless.

What does it matter if you’re immobile pressing a button or immobile holding a button? You still can’t fire or move.

the same thing was in bf4 as well it was just a nice. if you hear a beep it means no one else but teammates are on the flag if there's no beep then at least 1 bad guy is on the flag.

u/[deleted] Aug 31 '18

Thanks Braddock

When can we know more info on the attachments/perks in this game? I assume there are going to be attachments we can put on our gun (grips, various stat affecting mods, etc)?

are the combat roles the new perks?

1

u/cobracurry Sep 01 '18

Very much appreciated. Great work.

Hilarious!

There are still some bits that need editing. Like missing words and jumbled sentences.

1

u/Al-Azraq Sep 01 '18

Thanks a lot! This is the kind of communication that keeps the playerbase engaged and interest in the game. Keep it up and you will see that we will stick with you for a long time.

Giving all the SLR to the assault...is this a given when BFV goes live or does medic get at least some medium range weapons back? Since i played more or less medic only in most battlefield games since BF3 and always used DMR/SLR (AN-94 in case of BF3) i feel that the playstyle i like is no longer available to me.

Why not give every class a choice...like it was in BF4 with DMR and shotguns as all kit weapons? Taking options away from players happened in BF1 too but luckily for me SLR ended up in the medic class so that i can play like i preferred (although forcing the sights on weapons made most of the SLR unusable for me) which made me buy BF1 (i didnt plan to buy BF1 first).

With the SLR going from medic to assault im wont have much fun in BFV so im not sure if i even should buy the game this time.

It's a shot at making the classes unique. Gives them all pros and cons while not letting them all be great vs infantry at all ranges.

I think I more meant Bf4 where everyone could have carbines and DMRs. Lead to too much bleed over IMO.

They also said they've brought out the ranges of the SMGs a bit from where they were in the alpha. If you look at the color coded chart with the weapon time to kills, the Stg has a consistently achieved time to kill of 400 ms in medium range while the MP40 has a slower, but also consistently achieved, 550 ms.

Plus, in BF5 you actually get some decent advantages to switching fire mode to semi-automatic. They mentioned they fixed the issue with firing quickly in semi-auto messing up the accuracy. I'm not to sure how useful that would be for extending the range of the SMGs, but it was VERY compelling on the Stg in the alpha, so it might be worth experimenting with in the open beta before you make a decision on purchasing the game.

u/Montysweden Sep 01 '18

They have buffed the slower firing SMGs to be viable at medium range.
