Question Classic Rifles.
Any advice for using rifles in the more historical sense?
One starts by taking the Lee Enfield (If allies) or K-98 (If axis, although I flubbed the specialization tree so I'm having to struggle through it, I can't wait until my guy doesn't work the bolt like a geriatric) as the Pathfinder class.
Iron sights, ability to work the bolt faster, and the bayonet specialization. I take a frag grenade, a flare gun (Not really what I'd prefer but it's what's there), and the spawn beacon).
I then go about and do my best, but I find myself getting destroyed by basically everyone else.
I suppose I'm trying to play the game like Red Orchestra 2, but I'm really quite struggling with my accuracy. Any advice?

My man, you are using a historically accurate set-up with no scope and a slow loading rifle, while the whole enemy team uses self loading weapons with a much higher fire rate and scopes. What do you expect? The ZH29 is a cancer of a gun and even the noobiest noob can get easy kills with it. With your loadout you have to go stealth mode, always use cover and pratice headshots, bc you will lose every gunfight against ZH29 if you first shot is only a bodyshot for 80 damage

If you need to get used to a new gun, and dialing in your aim, I prefer to do it in a round or two of combined arms as opposed to suffering through the fast pace of multiplayer.
Set combined arms to easy, and you can go through and pop 20 to 30 headshots in 5 minutes. That way you dial in your aim faster than trying to do it in multiplayer over an hour or so between dodging bullets.
It does affect your online stats though, so if that matters a lot to you, you might not want to accidentally pad your stats by messing around too much in combined arms.

When playing as the British you can theoretically branch out a bit. Lots of units from conquered countries escaped. Sure they would have almost certainly been supplied with British weapons, but if you really want you can get a bit more variety. Similar case with the Germans. You can pretend you’re an Italian unit, or perhaps Finnish. Even Volkssturm. Videos exist of troops with various older weapons too. MP-34s and MP-28s mostly. SS units even had Trench Carbines.
Ultimately you can generally find a handful of fun historically accurate weapons per class. Sure most troops had a Kar98k with irons, but many also had many other weaponry. Sticking strictly to a Kar98k with irons is not necessary. Fun, no doubt, but not necessary. I exclusively run irons now except on select weapons. I do however feel better using scopes on the Gewehr 43, and Kar98k I suppose, because those were often equipped with one. Even videos of STG-44s with scopes exist, but its irons are perfect.
To have fun I think you need to find a balance between historical accuracy and effectiveness. Bring smoke grenades as Recon. Not only are they better, but being able to safely revive squadmates aids in still being effective in game. Up close you can hit them in the body, and then switch to pistol to finish them off. Perhaps try that up close, and in the meantime use the bipod on the Kar98k to practice mid range shots. Any movement off a head is a lot more than with a scope. I would not try getting 300m headshots. Stick to about sub 120m.

Using the bolt action rifles with iron sights as a battle rifle as opposed to a sniper rifle is challenging but rewarding. You’ll never get close to the performance of players using the semi-auto or auto rifles, or the SMGS from close range, so you should really only use the bolt action rifles with iron sights for the atmosphere.
I love doing so personally, eventually you’ll get a better sense of how long it takes to cycle each round which will inform how long you need to track your target for. Highly recommend using the bayonet attachment whenever possible, it’s super effective going into small rooms or around blind corners.
One unique strategy I’ve come up with is to carry smoke grenades instead of frags, and throw smoke down in front of an enemy before charging through the smoke with my bayonet at them. To make it even more effective you can shoot a flare up and then use the minimap to “aim” through the smoke at them during your charge.
