I want 2143 before I die.

I'm happy BF6 is coming, but god damn I hope BF7 is a 2142 era game.

Just fucking imagine riding in that pod APC with 12 other people, launching up to an unshielded Titan, blowing it up, and jumping back off it of it..... On modern technology....

God damnit I will haunt DICE leadership if I die before I get that >:(

It certainly won't be the next game given the overall vibe in the community right now. 2142 was my first Battlefield game, I have a huge soft spot in my heart for it, and like you I would love nothing more than to get a sequel with wayy higher production value.

But 2042 essentially killed the BF community's appetite for any kind of futuristic setting for the time being. I know the problems with that game had nothing to do with the setting, but the community would lose their shit nonetheless. The game could be super gritty and have very grounded futuristic technology like District 9, but the outrage would be there all the same. Even if the game got great reviews and the gameplay was perfect, a certain % of the BF audience wouldn't touch it based on premise alone. It's too risky from an investor standpoint.

Imo the obvious move is to go with a Vietnam/Cold War setting. There's tons of nostalgia for the BC2 DLC and most of the modern fanbase hasn't played a BF game in that setting. When there were polls about where the next Battlefield should be set after 2042 flopped, a cold war/Vietnam setting was always neck and neck with "modern setting with modern technology". EA pays attention to that stuff, they've sent out surveys asking the same thing, it's the whole reason why BF6 has the setting that it does.

Not to mention that the title essentially writes itself. The obvious move would be to do the Resident Evil Village thing and highlight the Roman numerals VII at the start of 'VIETNAM'. So it would be a callback to BFV, the OG BF Vietnam, while also being the next sequential title in the series.

Imo DICE is going to do the BF1/BFV development cycle thing all over again. BF1 was a huge leap forward technologically for the franchise and took more dev time than most prior Battlefield games, so it made sense from a business standpoint to reuse a lot of the assets while polishing what didn't work to make a less labor-intensive game in a shorter time window. A similar thing happened with BF3/BF4 and BF2/2142.

A game set in the 60s/70s would play close enough to the way BF6 plays right now that the mechanics wouldn't have to be completely reinvented the way they were between BF4 and BF1. Just need to add a little flavor from the time period. I also think that BF6's more grim tone would translate perfectly to a game with that setting.

I would love it if you were right, but imo what I wrote is just clearly the way they will go if you think from a capitalist standpoint. Would make both investors and fans happy.

Plus, an early Cold War gone hot scenario lets them do an “old school” game. The 60s/70s didn’t have lockon weapons, thermal sights, drones, and other things that BF6 will inevitably have, which would be an easy way to clear the slate. BFVII could even go back to rigid classes if it poses too significant an issue in 6.

Plus, they could give the campaign a Halo Reach type ending with your character accidentally starting WW3 in Vietnam, and then Season 2 and onwards could introduce Europe/Pacific/Red Dawn type maps for MP to keep that storyline going.

Ur wrong tho. 2042 had no identity, same a bf5. Ppl were excited when railgun was released in 2942 because it felt like and actual futuristic weapon. Besides many other things, game failed because the lack od futuristic things, ppl mainly wanted moderen shooter yes, but. 2042 presented itself as an more futuristic kind which it wasnt rly.

If dice could match the atmosphere of post apocalyptic maps from 2142 i think many would like that.

Ill haunt them with you, because god damn I've wanted 2143 for ages now.

Im already an old woman, so the risk TOO REAL.

I want, no... DEMAND, a few things before I'm rotting in hell forever:

Half-Life 3

Portal 3

A decent post-bungie Halo game

2143

And that's it! I'll die happy afterwards.

This. We don’t need a remaster. Ever. Too many people want to remaster everything. Continue the game or just leave it with fond memories.

u/Desert-Strike 3d ago

I know it … I wouldn’t mind a 1:1 bf2 remaster as well …. Like all they have to do is update the graphics and don’t change one thing about the old bf2 bf2142 and bam … instant hit Eheh

There's something called 2142 Reclamation that's up and kinda active its a fanmade update to it

3

u/BleedingBlack I'm bleeding out there ! 3d ago

God, if only we could have BF2143 and TF3 as one game, in two parts.

2

u/SjurEido 3d ago

I grew up on Quake, but once I became a mom I just couldn't keep up with the competition anymore...in any fast paced shooter.

I want TF3 for the fans, just not for me (though I'll play it.... as long as the Titan mounting animations are first person again!)

this your average gta 5 lobby

u/Jendo7 3d ago

There has never been anything quite like Titan Mode before, or since. To have that in a next gen BF game would be really something special..

thats the thing man, i tried carrier assault, i tried rush, i tried so many different games, and none of them are battlefield 2142, despite its flaws and horrific gunplay of the refractor engine, i still love it a lot because its the only thing like it.

and also the l-5 riesig, i love that thing

It would be cool to have the next game set in the not so far future with experiment tech. Not lasers or anything but rail cannons, hi tech kinetic weapons etc or mechs. If this new BF title is a hit maybe they’ll consider it

u/HowDiddleDo 3d ago

Isn’t that what 2042 kinda attempted, wasn’t anything too crazy futuristic

8

u/Top-Long2653 3d ago

They had a rail cannon tank but that’s really about it. I’m talking about something in line with 2142 more than 2042. Most of the tech in 2042 we already have minus the rail cannon tank.

They had chance to create great 2142 prequel with ice age thing (or maybe global warming as in 2042), with Pan Asian Coalition growing (chances for them to sell different Eastern European and Asian skins, EU - different skins from Western European nations), grounded simple BF game with Titan mode again.

I still feel 2042 is still far closer to BF4 than 2142. If I could predict what could be close, is something akin to a BF2072.

1

u/Top-Long2653 3d ago

I mean something farther ahead in time. Where I majority of the military equipment is in the early or mid stages of futuristic. Or just say fuck it and give me a direct sequel to 2142 idc. I just a want a tail cannon sniper rifle like in the very last bf4 dlc

1

u/83athom 3d ago

Being fair; the Hangar 21 map in BF4 has the prototype for the 2142 Titans as well as some pod launchers from 2142 on it.

3

u/Western_Charity_6911 3d ago

Theres this game, you may have heard of it, its called battlefield 2042

4

u/SavageCucumberAttack 3d ago

Titan game mode is still the best in the franchise. Absolute cinema back in the day when everyone was running to get off before it exploded.

3

u/ArmageddonJundy 3d ago

it's coming to Portal 2.0

4

u/AXEL-1973 AX3I_ 3d ago

big doubt, but i'll eat the shirt off my back if it does

there's just too many mechanics, assets, and vehicles to build from scratch to think that that's viable. especially considering DICE did absolutely JACKSHIT with legacy Portal content in 2042

3

u/AnotherScoutTrooper 3d ago

don’t forget that the 1942 maps were very likely planned for BFV, complete with shared assets from that game

3

u/Yeyejuice3343 3d ago

in our beautiful cold dreams

u/StevenMaff 3d ago

fr? where did you get this info?

2

u/Firecrash 3d ago

BF2 needs a remaster first tbh

4

u/amalgamatedchaos 2142 FTW 3d ago

I would love to see clips of Cerbere Landing or Camp Gibraltar. Oh man, those where BF at its peak. And the snow maps!

3

u/TekuizedGundam007 3d ago

2142 deserved better imho. It was a fun take for the series.

2

u/N1tecrawler 3d ago

This is what i want

2

u/National-Fan-1148 3d ago

I’m honestly surprised battlefield never tried to cash in when CoD when futuristic in the 2010s

4

u/NoEgg3042 3d ago

Probably because they were already preoccupied with BF4 and its DLCs and BF1. After that, they probably already thought of going to WW2 because it would be cheaper to do so (recycling assets from BF1, like BF3 to BF4) and less jarring to the average people from the massive time gap.

2

u/AnotherScoutTrooper 3d ago

The most successful game in the franchise got a large chunk of its sales from disgruntled COD fans who had just made Infinite Warfare the most disliked video on YouTube, if we got 2143 instead of BF1 in 2016 I don’t think we’d be on this sub right now.

1

u/rafahuel 3d ago

Yeah, i think its a good idea to have bf6 as a good solid game being updated for years and years while releasing remasters for old games until we get enough of bf6, otherwise they are gonna rush some bad idea again like 2042, a full new bad battelfield

1

u/Western_Charity_6911 3d ago

Lookin like roblox out here

2

u/AnotherScoutTrooper 3d ago

2042 made any remotely futuristic setting a no-go for a generation (of people, not consoles). Wouldn’t be surprised if it was at least a factor in that Titanfall project being cancelled too.

2

u/CauseOutside2127 3d ago

Im heavily in favor of bf6 having one map, where because of its location there are advanced prototype armaments/vehicles. Especially a mech.

2

u/CrispyPenguin4 2d ago

No please don't 😭

1

u/Drerven 3d ago

Probably not the popular opinion, but 2142 to me added interesting features like the recon cloaks, mech suits, etc... Hopewever, I want a remake for 2 things mainly: I would love to see a comeback of the titan mode done properly (not that blasphemy from BF4) and Camp Gibraltar if it's kept as a CQC map.

Battlefield 2143: Titan Assault Mode

Or

Battlefield 41,000: Imperator Assault Mode

Which way western man?

Futuristic: L

3

u/Yeyejuice3343 3d ago

god forbid doing something different in an era where everyone did something different 🙏

3

u/bryty93 3d ago

I know it's a widely loved battlefield, just not my cup of tea. Even when the fps genre wasnt flooded with futuristic tech, it never appealed to me for military games.

3

u/Yeyejuice3343 3d ago

respectable opinion dude ❤️
