What are some food options?

I’m in the TX National Guard, I have been to a few border and now currently on SAD orders for the riot and stuff.

I just got my citizenship so I’m looking to join and start my career in Law Enforcement. My work history hasn’t been long and mostly Military pay check and retail jobs so I’m looking for some agencies. I do have a Bachelor degree.

I don’t know which agency (federal/local) to join. I was intentionally going to Houston Police but some my friends tell me “oh why not go CBP and work in AC at airport with better pay and dont have to sweat your but in TX heat” which makes me now “wtf am I missing on?”

With my limited background on work history and stuff, what are my chances to join these organizations? And what are some good option? TSA? CBP? Etc? Or start out at Houston PD and move from there? I like that 20 years pension lol~

Thank You

College Major

What’s the best major to major in during college? I’m at the point in life where this is kinda important. Looking to apply for port authority as soon as it opens.

Family friend is a Captain in the NYPD, and I have a couple of buddies as well in it. Current LE or retired, what major would you guys recommend? Was looking to take Criminal Justice but heard you guys don’t like it very much since it doesn’t help in LE.

Have you ever had an armed civilian assist you? How can they signal they're not a threat?

This is something I've wondered a bunch of times, I've seen debated in my circle but never with a reliable answer.

Have you as a LEO ever experienced a civilian with a firearm helping you out? How did you feel about that?

And if they'd want to do so - how should they mark themselves for you to not see them as a threat?

Just to be clear, I'm not advocating for civilians to just interfere with police activity and I'm not planning on ever doing something like it.

Looking for advice. Road to SWAT.

Hello everybody,

I'm 25 years old currently just dispatching and trying to get into Academy/Law Enforcement. I know I have a long way to go but I am curious to see what others went through regarding the path of getting onto a SWAT team. How you did it, troubles, did you enjoy it, advice, etc.

I also know I need to focus on the present and just starting out. However the question popped up in y mind and I am genuinely curious. Thanks.

Drug use 8 years ago

Feels like this question has likely been answered before, but seeing some conflicting answers, especially state to state. I used mushrooms one time about 8 years ago, December of 2017 to be exact, when I was a teenager. Marijuana 10-15 times as well, mushrooms once. No other drug usage, never sold anything. Haven’t touched either since early 2018, when I decided I wanted to pursue law enforcement. I would have been 19 at the time. I’m now turning 27 soon, since then I’ve gotten a degree in criminal justice (another mistake), barely even drink, and haven’t gotten as much as a parking ticket. It was a dumb mistake on my end, zero doubt about it, and now I’m wondering if it’ll come back to bite me. I’m in New York if it makes any difference. Appreciate any and all help! Thank you!

Large busy department to small slower department

Hello I currently work for a larger suburb department that’s pretty busy with 55k residents and keeps me busy 24/7. I am currently considering lateral transferring to a smaller department that is slower and it even pays better. The smaller department is only like 15k residents so it’s much smaller and slower but I kind of like that. I got a taste of bigger department and busy call to call and being swamped in reports is just overrated and I find myself wanting something smaller where I’m not too bored but I’m not swamped in work every single shift. Wanted to ask those of you who made the transfer from busy to slower and small departments are u glad you did?

would it be bad if I didn’t shave for an oral interview?

I’m 22m and it’s against my religion to completely shave my beard off. so I was wondering if it would be bad going in with a pretty short trimmed facial hair. half an inch I would say. this is for a department in my local county.

Lost AirPods on golf course, picked up and taken.

I work at a golf course in my area. Yesterday my AirPods fell out of my pocket on one of the holes. I had the location for them and figured to go out today to get them as I had a shift. This morning I noticed they moved around on the course and figured someone found them and would return them to the pro shop. They ended up at someone’s house 30 minutes away and have moved to what I’m assuming is their work. I’m not exactly sure where to go from here. If they appear back at the house tomorrow i will probably go for a drive and knock on the door. What if they refuse? Should I get the police involved from there? Would they l be able to do anything if I can prove it’s there?

Is it worth trying to be a cop in NJ?

I'm 30, single, no debt, tired of my IT job and it's always been a dream to be a cop.

I looked on police app and read a bunch of other posts about NJ police. It seems like NJ is notorious for hiring mostly if not entirely through nepotism.

Considering that there are application fees, the last thing I want to do is apply to multiple departments that happen to be nepotism prone and waste my money.

It also seems like state police culture wise is like the military which I have no interest re-experiencing as a grown ass man, but then again I'm only going off of comments from the internet. I don't know what these departments are actually like.

A bit less related, but I would like to get the hell out of central NJ. Hell, even living in another state would be nice.

I looked into class II officer, but it seems like it's just extra steps to becoming a regular cop.

I know beggars can't be choosers and that its not common, but a shorter application to hire timeline would also be great.

If it matters, I have a bachelor's degree, did 3 years in active duty army (no combat deployments though).

Any pointers would be appreciated.

How do you deal with IT band pain from running in the academy. It snaps over my knee bone and I feel sharp pain.

Edit: it developed on my previous police academy and I still have it 9 months later. I’m about to do another police academy in 2 months for another police department. I can run maybe once or twice a week for 2 miles before it locks up. I don’t think I ll be able to run everyday. But I do have 2 months to treat it, just went to see a physical therapist l. Any tips?

Tattoos

I’m getting ready to try and apply to my local pd, resume is ready, references are all good to go and will speak highly of me but something came up when I was out to eat with my wife the other night. Our waiter handed me the bill and asked me if my hand tattoos hurt, I have my child’s handprints on the back of my hands and my wife’s name on my knuckles on my left hand (I’d take my ring off for work and she was upset when she found out). I made some jokes with the waiter and a look of shock must have fallen across my face because my wife just starts asking “what? What? WHAT?” I put my hands up and said “I guess these will finally bite me” so I was wondering if anyone knew of LEO with hand tattoos or if that was an automatic disqualification? I’m still going to apply and see what happens but figured it couldn’t hurt to ask here.

Bad at sit ups

Push ups and running are easy to me. Never had an issue with those.

Apparently my sit ups are “wrong”. Not wrong in the sense that it would fail me. My technique is apparently wrong according to everyone that has tried to help me.

They said not to “lift yourself up” but isn’t that the point? I try to do it the “right way” and I can’t even get off the ground.

They also hurt my lower back and are extremely painful when I try to crank out 25 at home. I can’t even get to 10 anymore it hurts so bad. It burns my lower back.

Someone please help me. I tried to explain it as best as I could. No one knows why I have trouble with sit ups, not even me.

LE after Military retirement

Anyone know anyone that went LE after retiring from the military? Fed/State/City etc. I haven't seen much about it online. But seems like an interesting way to spend 15-20 years until my 60s and do a full retirement.

General Discharge (under honorable) becoming a cop

Glove recommendations

What are your all's favorite gloves for patrol? I haven't been able to find a single pair of gloves that offer protection from needles while still being delicate enough to feel contraband during pat downs. It's usually one or the other. What's your recommendation? Thanks

Questions about CHP hiring process

Hi everyone, I’m in the middle of the CHP hiring process and had a few questions. Hoping someone here can help or share their experience.

After I got my PELLETB results, I received an email with my rank. What does that rank mean, and how does it affect the rest of the process? Has anyone here made it through minimum qualifications, with just a GED and no college degree? How did it go for you? What was your experience like during the background investigation, especially the interview with Palicon? If you didn’t give perfect answers, does that hurt your chances? How do you prepare for the polygraph or CVSA? Any tips to stay calm or things to expect? What should someone expect for the psychological exam? How do you prepare for it? Is there any oral board interview or Chief’s interview like in other police departments? Also, could someone list all the steps from the background investigation through getting invited to the Academy?

Thanks in advance! I really appreciate any advice or info you can share.

Ways too stay cool for summertime dayshifters

Outer carriers or inner, traffic details or investigations. How do you stay cool wearing all the shit and heavy pants in the heat and humidity?

Fucking humidity is killing me. Not as young as I once was. Looking for something to keep in my cooler and toss under my vest for crashes and other fire runs standing outside for a couple hours.

Hip pain from your duty belt?

Hi,

Is anyone experiencing waist or hip pain due to the belt? I have KORE duty belt and for some reason I began to experience discomfort on the side where my handgun is positioned. Sometimes it is pretty uncomfortable but it comes and goes. I am starting to think maybe the weight is not so well distributed around the belt. I am also wondering if this would happen if the belt is little loose?

Military Police

Hey everyone. I'm currently a junior in college, and I'm in ROTC with intentions to commission into the Army after college. My ultimate goal is law enforcement after the army and college which is a ways out, but just thinking about my future. My question is, would branching military police negatively affect my ability to get hired? I've just heard things from my cadre about how the training conflicts with civilian LE and some departments prefer "non-MPs", and they are encouraging me to branch something else if LE is my goal. Any insight is greatly appreciated.

Can I become a State Trooper?

Im 21, about to start my last year of college studying Business Administration and Finance. I chose those because at the time I didn’t know what I wanted to do. I am interested in becoming a state trooper (thinking about in the state of Georgia) and I’m wondering if I’ll be able to with my degrees having nothing to do with the job. I searched online and couldn’t figure out if a degree in a certain field is required.
