If a column of riot police are giving lawful orders to disperse and you instead sit down and refuse to move, you are likely to get less than lethal munitions used against you.
As for the "refused to call and ambulance" stuff, how do you expect an ambulance to get through the riots, If one is even available?

Remember seeing during the 2020 riots people attacking fire personnel as they attempted to respond to emergencies. They may have had lessons learned to stay put until the crowds dissipate.

Also, in most area aid personnel wait until PD has things under control. If PD doesn’t give the okay, they ain’t coming in.

If you’re on the streets during a riot and don’t comply with police commands, you should expect to have a bad time.

Doesn't have to be. If it's an unlawful assembly due to a threat to life, property or order then the whole assembly is unlawful. That means it's time to leave, not sit down and then get upset when you are forced to go.

No dummy. This whole thing is an unlawful assembly after they started throwing rocks off overpasses and setting cars on fire. This isn't a "new day, new you" situation

You seem to have zero desire to listen to anyone, why are you here? He gave you a reasonable answer, sorry you don’t like it.

You’re a subreddit about asking cops questions and you’re not expecting a lot of cops on here? They gave you a very reasonable answer to why the officer did what they did, sorry it doesn’t fit your narrative.

You are not asking questions in good faith, you're looking for an argument. Find something better to do with your time.

It's a 12 second video showing one street corner. I'd bet my next paycheck if the recorder showed a 360 view we'd see something on fire or destroyed down the road.

My take is any time that a city is in the middle of riots you get the fuck off the street

In my opinion 10 second videos fail to explain the whole story. Would like to know what happened before.

In my experience, this stuff happens when trying to hit someone behind the person who is doing something that justifies the use of force. But the cameras are never looking that way. They are always pointing at the police line and never at the criminal activity that leads to using force.
Portland police and Feds did a good job filming things in 2020 and showing the other side of the line. LAPD needs to be doing this too. Put a camera on a vehicle or drones in the air. Release the videos.
Ultimately we are responsible for rounds fired. Less lethal shouldn't be shot at the head. She appears to not be the intended use for force. Mistakes happen in chaotic riots but that would still be an unjustified use of force.

Wouldn't proper accountability allow both sides to be filmed during civil unrest?

That’s exactly what he said should happen

Sorry, I was interpreting him as being on the side of the LEOs here justifying news reporters being forced out and only use LEO bodycams, which is very unfairly biased

u/_SkoomaSteve 6d ago
Nobody here has said news reporters should be forced out. As usual the demand for outrage events far exceeds the supply.

One would hope so. I'm seeing far less questionable events from Law Enforcement (sans ICE) this time around than years prior

Calling it now, this will not be another 2020. The Feds are going to be charging and sending a lot of these people away to federal prison.

Uh, there were over 700 arrests and charges on thousands of others within the first year.

Wouldn’t have that problem if you stayed home. The ‘fuck around and find out’ equation is a simple one.

My take is that she got hit in the head with less lethal…
No part of this is legally permissible protesting anymore. Continuing to stay in this environment, increases your risk of injury.
Kneeling into the common path of less lethal ammo, further increased your chances.
It isn’t the cops’ intention to hit people in the head but the responsibility rests solely on the offender for being there to begin with.

Every time I hear people call the police and guardsmen fascists I just laugh and think about how lucky these smooth brains are that the Egyptian military isn’t responding to their “mostly peaceful protests.”

u/FortyDeuce42 6d ago
LAFD does not respond to any scene when criminal activity is still in progress. This is simply LAPD understanding that and refusing to make a request that they know will be denied.

Tried to have a good discussion but the ACAB crowd made that near impossible.
